Abstract
Porphyrin tapes have attracted extensive attention because their fully conjugated π-networks act as nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. A family of Ni(II) and Zn(II) porphyrin arch-tapes that are connected by varying bridge (B) ligands (meso-meso β-β doubly linked dimer 1, meso-meso β-β β-β triply linked dimer 3, methylene-inserted dimer 2 and trimer 5, carbonyl-inserted dimer 4, trimer 6, and Zn(II) trimer 7) have been synthesized by a density functional theory (DFT) method. The results show that carbonyl-inserted arch-tapes significantly enhance second hyperpolarizability (γ), indicating that the remarkably contorted structure incorporated seven-membered ring(s) directly affect their NLO properties of our focus. Moreover, the electronic absorption spectra calculated for all studied complexes with time-dependent DFT theory (TDDFT) predict that carbonyl-inserted complex 4 contributes to a red-shift of the Q-band (160 nm) for the meso-meso β-β doubly linked complex 1. The third-order NLO responses and the electron transition properties strongly depend on the nature of the bridge (B) ligand, which means that an active involvement of the carbonyl group presents an advantage for its application in NLO materials.

Abstract
In this paper, metallocene-fullerene hybrid complexes, [M(η5 -Cp)(η5 -C60 Me5 )] (M = Fe2+ , Ru2+ , Os2+ ), as well as corresponding classical metallocenes have been studied theoretically at BP86/def2-SVP and M06L/def2-SVP levels of theory. With considering these metal complexes as an ABA' system (B is the central metal ion and A and A' are related η5 -ligands), the total interaction energies were calculated using common methods, as well as by calculating the interaction energies between the four defined pairs of fragments including A-B, B-A', A-BA', and AB-A'. The resulting data clearly showed that in all complexes there is a strong anticoopertivity between two metal-(η5 -ligand) bonds. In order to understand the origin of difference in values of various calculated interactions in above two types of complexes, the nature of metal-ligand bonds was also studied using energy decomposition analysis-natural orbital for chemical valence calculations. The results showed that in hybrid complexes, in contrast to metallocenes, the orbital interactions are considerably larger than electrostatic interactions.

Abstract
Finding new materials with exceptionally large nonlinear optical response is an interesting and challenging avenue for scientific research. Here, we report the alkali metal doped Zn12O12 nanocages as inorganic electrides with excellent nonlinear optical response. Density functional theory calculations have been performed for geometric, electronic and nonlinear optical response of exo- and endohedrally alkali metal doped Zn12O12 nanoclusters. For exohedral doping, all different possible doping sites are considered for decoration of alkali metal on the nanocage. The electride nature of the complexes is highly dependent on the position of alkali metal doping. All exohedral complexes except for alkali metal doping on six membered ring (r6) are electride in nature, as revealed from frontier molecular orbital analysis. Interaction energies reveal that all doped nanoclusters except endo-K@Zn12O12 are thermodynamically stable. The exothermic encapsulation of alkali metals in Zn12O12 nanocages is in marked contradiction with other inorganic fullerenes where encapsulation is an endothermic process. The barriers for boundary crossing are also evaluated in order study the interconversion of exo- and endohedral complexes. Doping of alkali metal significantly influences the properties of nanocages. HOMO-LUMO (H-L) gap is reduced significantly whereas hyperpolarizability is increased several orders of magnitude. The NLO response of exohedrally doped complexes is higher than the corresponding endohedral complexes, which is in mark contradiction with the behavior of phosphide or nitride nanocages. The highest first hyperpolarizability of 1.0 × 105 au is calculated for K@r6-Zn12O12 complex. Third order NLO response of these complexes is calculated and compared with the best systems reported in the literature at the same level of theory.

Abstract
Recently, an anthraquinone-supported thiourea group linking a 1-aza-18-crown-6 macrocycle L has been the subject of extensive attention due to the perfect affinity towards metal cations. This work systematically researched the effects of different metal cations ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]) on the second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of macrocycle L by density functional theory (DFT). DFT calculations revealed that the values of first hyperpolarizabilities ([Formula: see text] decrease significantly when alkaline earth metal cations ([Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]) were injected into macrocycle L due to the smaller charge transfer (CT) transition and larger transition energy. Conversely, the variations of [Formula: see text] values in alkali metal cations ([Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] and transition metal cations ([Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]) derivatives are not obvious compared to the [Formula: see text] value of macrocycle L. Therefore, the NLO properties of macrocycle can be effectively regulated by alkaline earth metal cations. Furthermore, we found that the [Formula: see text] value of anion-controlled complex Na(L)(ClO4) is larger than that of L*Na+ complex because the anion [Formula: see text] improves the planarity of anthraquinone-supported thiourea group leading to the enhancement of the CT ability. In addition, the influence of frequency-dependent on the first hyperpolarizabilities is weak for the current systems. Hence, we look forward to the conception of this work will offer a fundamental guideline and reference for further research for novel NLO materials.

Abstract
Ion-buckybowl complexes have received considerable attention in modern chemical research due to its fundamental and practical importance. Herein, we performed density functional theory (DFT) to calculate the geometical structure, binding interactions, dipole moments and the first hyperpolarizabilities (βtot) of ion-buckybowl complexes (ions are Cl(-) and Na(+), buckybowls are quadrannulene, corannulene and sumanene). It is found that the stabilities of ion-buckybowl compounds primarily originate from the interaction energy, which was proved by a new isomerization energy decomposition analysis approach. Plots of reduced density gradient mirror the ion-π weak interaction has been formed between the ions and buckybowls. Significantly, the buckybowl subunits cannot effectively impact the nonlinear optical (NLO), but the kind of ion has marked influence on the second-order NLO responses. The βtot values of Cl(-)-buckybowl complexes are all larger as compared to that of Na(+)-buckybowl complexes, which is attributed to the large charge-transfer (CT) from Cl(-) to buckybowl. Our present work will be beneficial for further theoretical and experimental studies on the NLO properties of ion-buckybowl compounds.
