Recent Progress on Functionalized Nanoporous Heteropoly Acids: From Synthesis to Applications

Functionalized nanoporous heteropoly acids (HPAs) have garnered significant attention in recent years due to their enhanced surface area and porosity, as well as their potential for low-cost regeneration compared to bulk materials. This review aims to provide an overview of the recent advancements in the synthesis and applications of functionalized HPAs. We begin by introducing the fundamental properties of HPAs and their unique structure, followed by a comprehensive overview of the various approaches employed for the synthesis of functionalized HPAs, including salts, anchoring onto supports, and implementing mesoporous silica sieves. The potential applications of functionalized HPAs in various fields are also discussed, highlighting their boosted performance in a wide range of applications. Finally, we address the current challenges and present future prospects in the development of functionalized HPAs, particularly in the context of mesoporous HPAs. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the recent progress in the field, highlighting the significant advancements made in the synthesis and applications of functionalized HPAs.

Synthesis and high proton conductivity of an indium-substituted Keggin-type quaternary heteropoly acid

The synthesis and characterization of an indium-substituted quaternary heteropoly acid with a Keggin structure, H4[In(H2O)PW9Mo2O39]·11H2O (PMo9W2In), is reported. At 18 °C under 80% relative humidity, PMo9W2In displays protonic conductivity of 2.32 × 10-4 S cm-1 with an activation energy of 35.52 kJ mol-1, indicating that it is a potential solid protonic conductor following the vehicle mechanism. Its conductivity increases with temperature in the measured temperature range.

Facile fabrication of thermal-control ionic liquid compound based on undecatungstophosphoindic polyoxometalate with fast ionic conductivity

Thermal-depended conductive properties of the ternary-POM-based layer-structure ionic liquid [TOAMe]₄[In(H₂O)PW₁₁O₃₉] was investigated. It shows fast ionic conductivity as high as 2.2 × 10⁻³ S cm⁻¹ at 90 °C with the conductive activation energy of 30.19 kJ mol⁻¹, which is related to its state, obviously increasing during the reversible phase transformation from a quasi-solid-state gel phase to an isotropic sol phase.
