Abstract
A methoxy-functionalized isophthalic acid, 5-methoxy isophthalic acid (H2mia), was used a versatile linker for assembling six new metal(ii) compounds under hydrothermal conditions. The obtained products were [Cu2(μ2-mia)2(phen)2(H2O)2]·2H2O (1), [Mn(μ3-mia)(phen)]n (2), [Co(μ2-mia)(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)]n·nH2O (3), [Co(μ3-mia)(μ2-4,4'-bipy)]n·nH2O (4), [Co(μ3-mia)(py)2]n (5), and [Cd(μ2-mia)(py)(H2O)2]n·nH2O (6), where phen(1,10-phenanthroline), 2,2'-bipy(2,2'-bipyridine), 4,4'-bipy(4,4'-bipyridine) or py(pyridine) were incorporated as auxiliary ligands. The crystal structures of 1-6 range from 0D (1) and 1D (2, 3, 5, 6) CPs to a 2D network (4) with a variety of topological types. The catalytic behavior of 1-6 was studied in the cyanosilylation reaction between trimethylsilyl cyanide and aldehydes, resulting in up to 99% yields of products under optimized conditions. Various reaction parameters as well as catalyst recycling and substrate scope were investigated. This study widens the use of H2mia as a versatile dicarboxylate linker for assembling a diversity of functional metal-organic architectures with remarkable structural features and catalytic properties.

Abstract
A mechanically interlocked [3]rotaxane was newly designed, synthesized, and employed as a ligand for constructing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The nano-confinement by macrocycles forces the soft bis-isophthalate axle into a pseudo-rigid conformation and coordinates to zinc(II) ions, affording a two- or three-dimensional MOF under controlled conditions. The 2D MOF exhibits a neutral framework with a periodic puckering sheet structure, while an anionic framework with a pts topology was observed for the 3D MOF. The phase purity of both bulk materials was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction. Thermogravimetric analysis reveals that both materials are stable up to 250 °C. The success of applying mechanical bonds to rigidify flexible ligands provides new insights for the design of metal-organic frameworks.

Abstract
Functional neutral metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) {[M(5OH-IP)(L)]}n [M = Zn(II) for ADES-4; Cd(II) for ADES-5; 5OH-IP = 5-hydroxyisophthalate; L = (E)-N'-(pyridin-3-ylmethylene)nicotinohydrazide) have been synthesized by a diffusion/conventional reflux/mechanochemical method and characterized by various analytical techniques. Crystals were harvested by a diffusion method, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD) analysis revealed that an adjacent [M2(COO)2]n ladder chain generates isostructural two-dimensional network motifs by doubly pillaring via L. The bulk-phase purity of ADES-4 and ADES-5 synthesized by a versatile synthetic approach has been recognized by the decent match of powder X-ray diffraction patterns with the simulated one. Both ADES-4 and ADES-5 showed selective adsorption of cationic dyes methylene blue (MB), methyl violet (MV), and rhodamine B (RhB) over anionic dye methyl orange (MO) from water with good uptake and rapid adsorption. Utilization of ADES-4 as a chromatographic column filler for adsorptive removal of individual cationic dyes as well as a mixture of dyes has been demonstrated from the aqueous phase. Interestingly, ADES-4 is reusable with good stability, and it showed a dye desorption phenomenon in methanol. The probable mechanism of cationic dye removal based on insight from structural information and plausible supramolecular interactions has also been explored. Both MOFs also showed efficient catalytic transformation of fructose and glucose into the high-value chemical intermediate 5-hydroxymethylfurfural of industrial significance.

Abstract
A family of four novel pyrazinyl-hydrazone based ligands have been synthesized with differing functionality at the 5-position of the central aromatic ring. Previous work has shown such ligands to form dinuclear triple mesocates which pack to form hexagonal channels capable of gas sorption. The effect of the peripheral functionality of the ligand on the crystal packing was investigated by synthesizing complexes 1 to 4 which feature amino, bromo, iodo and methoxy substituents respectively. Complexes 1 to 3 crystallized in the same hexagonal space group P63 /m and featured 1D channels. However, on closer inspection while the packing of 1 is mediated by hydrogen bonding interactions, the packing of complexes 2 and 3 are not, due to a subtlety different π-π stacking interaction enforced by the halogen substituent. The more bulky nature of the methoxy substituent of 4 results in the complex crystallizing in the triclinic space group P-1, featuring an entirely different crystal packing.
