Abstract
The influence of fluorinated substituents on the luminescent properties of rhenium-oxo, osmium-nitrido, and gold triarylcorroles was studied via a comparison of four ligands: triphenylcorrole (TPC), tris(p-trifluoromethylphenyl)corrole (TpCF3PC), tris{3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl}corrole (T3,5-CF3PC), and tris(pentafluorophenyl)corrole (TPFPC). For each metal series examined, fluorinated substituents were found to enhance the luminescent properties, with the phosphorescence quantum yields and triplet decay times increasing in the order TPC < TpCF3PC < T3,5-CF3PC < TPFPC. Among the 11 complexes examined, the highest phosphorescence quantum yield, 2.2%, was recorded for Re[TPFPC](O).

Abstract
Presented herein are two fully characterized gold tetrathiocyanocorroles representing a potentially significant new class of NIR-emissive 5d-metallocorroles. The four SCN groups on the bipyrrole unit of the corrole exert a powerful electron-withdrawing effect, upshifting both the oxidation and reduction potentials by roughly half a volt relative to their unsubstituted counterparts. That said, the upshift of the LUMO is somewhat higher than that of the HOMO so these complexes also exhibit a smaller HOMO-LUMO gap, as evinced in both electrochemical measurements and Q band energies (∼595 nm relative to ∼571 nm for their SCN-free counterparts). The new compounds exhibit NIR phosphorescence under ambient conditions with emission maxima around 900 nm (compared with 790 nm for simple Au triarylcorroles), phosphorescence quantum yields around 0.3%, phosphorescence lifetimes around 10 μs, and singlet oxygen sensitization with a quantum yield of around 50 ± 5% in solution, together signifying wide-ranging potential applications as triplet photosensitizers in oxygen sensing and photodynamic therapy.

Abstract
A new method of activating corrole macrocycles via an in situ generated SCN radical has been developed at very mild conditions at room temperature. This photoredox reaction resulted in the generation of tetrathiocyanatocorroles in good yields. The synthesis of tetrathiocyanatocorroles was never reported earlier. Single-crystal XRD analysis reveals that the insertion of four thiocyanate moieties at the four β-pyrrolic positions has imparted significant distortion to the corrole macrocycle. The generated tetrathiocyanatocorroles are different from the parent corroles in many ways. The photophysical properties of the newly synthesized tetrathiocyanatocorroles are dramatically altered from the parent corroles. The absorption feature of these modified corrole derivatives (both position and intensity) bears a nice similarity with the chlorophyll-a macrocycle. Thus, these newly synthesized molecules can be considered as spectroscopic model systems for chlorophyll-a pigments. The observed absorption and emission spectra of these tetrathiocyanatocorroles certainly point out that these newly developed ligand scaffolds and their various metal complexes will have immense potential as pigments in solar cells and also as NIR-emissive dyes. The observed C-H···Au weak interactions in a representative Au(III)-corrole complex point out that these complexes are capable of activating the unfunctionalized C-H groups and thus will have potential implications in C-H activation reactions.

Abstract
Sharpless et al. have described, while performing the molybdenum-catalyzed epoxidation reaction of olefins using alkyl hydroperoxides, that the molybdenum-oxo moiety is an active catalytic species. Thus, continuous efforts have been made to synthesize molybdenum-oxo complexes of different ligand environments. While plenty of such works on molybdenum porphyrins are reported in the literature, related molybdenum corroles are very less reported. The synthesis and characterization of two new oxo-molybdenum(V)-corrolato complexes are described herein. Both the complexes have been fully characterized by several spectroscopic techniques in conjunction with single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The efficacy of the oxo-molybdenum(V)-corrolato complexes for the catalytic epoxidation reaction of olefins with the help of hydroperoxides has also been explored. The catalytic application of oxo-molybdenum(V)-corrolato complexes in the epoxidation reaction has not been reported earlier. A mechanism has been proposed to explain the experimental findings.

Abstract
Given that noninnocent and metalloradical-type electronic structures are ubiquitous among dipyrrin-bisphenolate (DPP) complexes, we synthesized the gold(iii) derivatives as potentially innocent paradigms against which the properties of other metallo-DPP derivatives can be evaluated. Electronic absorption spectra, electrochemical studies, a single-crystal X-ray structure, and DFT calculations all suggest that the ground states of the new complexes indeed correspond to an innocent AuIII–DPP3−, paralleling a similar description noted for Au corroles. Interestingly, while DFT calculations indicate purely ligand-centered oxidations, reduction of AuDPP is predicted to occur across both the metal and the ligand. The first gold dipyrrin-bisphenolates have been synthesized. Like their corrole analogues, they exhibit AuIII–L3− ground states, providing rare innocent paradigms for a class of complexes that commonly occur as metalloradicals.![]()

Abstract
Metal- versus ligand-centered redox processes and the effects of substituents on the ligands on the spectroscopic properties of the metal complexes are at the heart of research on metal complexes with non-innocent ligands. This work presents three examples of chromium complexes that contain both oxido and corrolato ligands, with the substituents on the corrolato ligands being different in the three cases. Combined X-ray crystallographic, electrochemical, UV/Vis/NIR/EPR spectroelectrochemical, and EXAFS/XANES measurements, together with DFT calculations, have been used to probe the complexes in three different redox forms. This combined approach makes it possible to address questions related to chromium- versus corrolato-centered redox processes, and the accessibility (or not) of CrIV , CrV , and CrVI in these complexes, as well as their spin states. To the best of our knowledge, these are the first EXAFS/XANES investigations on Cr-corrolato complexes in different redox forms, and hence these data should set benchmarks for future investigations on such complexes by this method.

Abstract
X-ray structures of gold corroles, which are still rather uncommon, afford significant insights into intermolecular interactions involving Au(III), a subject that has been much less studied than aurophilic and metallophilic interactions involving Au(I). The X-ray structure of gold [Formula: see text]-octabromo-meso-tris(para-pentafluorosulfanylphenyl)corrole, reported herein, has revealed two Au···Br interactions (∼4.2 Å) per Au atom. We suggest that analogous but somewhat stronger Au···Br interactions are a key factor underlying the remarkable insolubility of gold octabromocorrole derivatives.

Abstract
Presented herein is a comprehensive account of the electronic structure of corrole derivatives. Our knowledge in this area derives from a broad range of methods, including UV-vis-NIR absorption and MCD spectroscopies, single-crystal X-ray structure determination, vibrational spectroscopy, NMR and EPR spectroscopies, electrochemistry, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and quantum chemical calculations, the latter including both density functional theory and ab initio multiconfigurational methods. The review is organized according to the Periodic Table, describing free-base and main-group element corrole derivatives, then transition-metal corroles, and finally f-block element corroles. Like porphyrins, corrole derivatives with a redox-inactive coordinated atom follow the Gouterman four-orbital model. A key difference from porphyrins is the much wider prevalence of noninnocent electronic structures as well as full-fledged corrole•2- radicals among corrole derivatives. The most common orbital pathways mediating ligand noninnocence in transition-metal corroles are the metal(dz2)-corrole("a2u") interaction (most commonly observed in Mn and Fe corroles) and the metal(dx2-y2)-corrole(a2u) interaction in coinage metal corroles. Less commonly encountered is the metal(dπ)-corrole("a1u") interaction, a unique feature of formal d5 metallocorroles. Corrole derivatives exhibit a rich array of optical properties, including substituent-sensitive Soret maxima indicative of ligand noninnocence, strong fluorescence in the case of lighter main-group element complexes, and room-temperature near-IR phosphorescence in the case of several 5d metal complexes. The review concludes with an attempt at identifying gaps in our current knowledge and potential future directions of electronic-structural research on corrole derivatives.

Abstract
This review covers the functionalization reactions of meso-arylcorroles, both at the inner core, as well as the peripheral positions of the macrocycle. Experimental details for the synthesis of all known metallocorrole types and for the N-alkylation reactions are presented. Key peripheral functionalization reactions such as halogenation, formylation, carboxylation, nitration, sulfonation, and others are discussed in detail, particularly the nucleophilic aromatic substitution and the participation of corroles in cycloaddition reactions as 2π or 4π components (covering Diels-Alder and 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions). Other functionalizations of corroles include a large diversity of reactions, namely Wittig reactions, reactions with methylene active compounds, formation of amines, amides, and imines, and metal catalyzed reactions. At the final section, the reactions involving oxidation and ring expansion of the corrole macrocycle are described comprehensively.
