Abstract
Frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) have been widely investigated as promising catalysts due to their metal-free feature and ability to activate small molecules. Over the last few years, the structure, dynamics and interactions between the Lewis centers and their effects on the reactivity with different substrates have been studied. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is a powerful tool in studying the reaction intermediates, kinetics and mechanism of frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs). Various NMR experiments have been applied to precisely determine the association or cooperativity of FLPs and one or two-dimensional spectra were obtained. Herein, insights coming from NMR spectroscopy for FLPs are presented, the structure and reactivity of FLPs in solution are described, and their effects on the kinetics and mechanism of different substrates are also illustrated in this review.

Abstract
Herein we report the development of diffusion ordered NMR spectroscopy (DOSY) for its use to characterize metal complexes containing paramagnetic first row transition metal elements. This technique is capable of assessing the purity and speciation of paramagnetic complexes, and also provides a convenient method to provide qualitative and sometimes quantitative molecular weight data.

Abstract
Reactions between the π-acidic cyclic trimetallic coinage metal(I) complexes {[Cu(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3, {[Ag(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3, and {[Au(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3 with TTF, DBTTF and BEDT-TTF give rise to a series of coinage metal(I)-based new binary donor-acceptor adducts {[Cu(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3DBTTF} (1), {[Ag(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3DBTTF} (2), {[Au(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3DBTTF} (3), {[Cu(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3TTF} (4), {[Ag(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3TTF} (5), {[Au(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3TTF} (6), {[Cu(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3BEDT-TTF} (7), {[Ag(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3BEDT-TTF} (8), and {[Au(μ-3,5-(CF3)2pz)]3BEDT-TTF} (9), where pz = pyrazolate, TTF = tetrathiafulvalene, DBTTF = dibenzotetrathiafulvalene, and BEDT-TTF = bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene. This series of binary donor-acceptor adducts has been found to exhibit remarkable supramolecular structures in both the solid state and solution, whereby they exhibit supramolecular stacked chains and oligomers, respectively. The supramolecular solid-state and solution binary donor-acceptor adducts also exhibit superior shelf stability under ambient laboratory storage conditions. Structural and other electronic properties of solids and solutions of these adducts have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) structural analysis, 1H and 19F NMR, UV-vis-near-IR spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and computational investigations. The combined results of XRD structural data analysis, spectroscopic measurements, and theoretical studies suggest sustenance of the donor-acceptor stacked structure and electronic communication in both the solid state and solution. These properties are discussed in terms of potential applications for this new class of supramolecular binary donor-acceptor adducts in molecular electronic devices, including solar cells, magnetic switching devices, and field-effect transistors.

Abstract
Measuring accurate translational self-diffusion coefficients (Dt ) by NMR techniques with modern spectrometers has become rather routine. In contrast, the derivation of reliable molecular information therefrom still remains a nontrivial task. In this paper, two established approaches to estimating molecular size in terms of hydrodynamic volume (VH ) or molecular weight (M) are compared. Ad hoc designed experiments allowed the critical aspects of their application to be explored by translating relatively complex theoretical principles into practical take-home messages. For instance, comparing the Dt values of three isosteric Cp2 MCl2 complexes (Cp=cyclopentadienyl, M=Ti, Zr, Hf), having significantly different molecular mass, provided an empirical demonstration that VH is the critical molecular property affecting Dt . This central concept served to clarify the assumptions behind the derivation of Dt =ƒ(M) power laws from the Stokes-Einstein equation. Some pitfalls in establishing log (Dt ) versus log (M) linear correlations for a set of species have been highlighted by further investigations of selected examples. The effectiveness of the Stokes-Einstein equation itself in describing the aggregation or polymerization of differently shaped species has been explored by comparing, for example, a ball-shaped silsesquioxane cage with its cigar-like dimeric form, or styrene with polystyrene macromolecules.

Abstract
A series of 5,15 push-pull meso-diarylzinc(II) porphyrinates, carrying one or two -COOH or -COOCH3 acceptor groups and a -OCH3 or a -N(CH3)2 donor group, show in N,N-dimethylformamide and CHCl3 solutions a negative and solvent-dependent second-order nonlinear-optical (NLO) response measured by the electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation (EFISH) technique, different from the structurally related zinc(II) porphyrinate carrying a -N(CH3)2 donor group and a -NO2 acceptor group, where a still solvent-dependent but positive EFISH second-order response was previously reported. Moreover, when a -N(CH3)2 donor group and a -COOH acceptor group are part of a sterically hindered 2,12 push-pull β-pyrrolic-substituted tetraarylzinc(II) porphyrinate, the EFISH response is positive and solvent-independent. In order to rationalize these rather intriguing series of observations, EFISH measurements have been integrated by electronic absorption and IR spectroscopic investigations and by density functional theory (DFT) and coupled-perturbed DFT theoretical and 1H pulsed-gradient spin-echo NMR investigations, which prompt that the significant concentration effects and the strong influence of the solvent nature on the NLO response are originated by a complex whole of different aggregation processes induced by the -COOH group.

Abstract
A new family of cyclometallated gold(III) thiolato complexes based on pyrazine‐centred pincer ligands has been prepared, (C^Npz^C)AuSR, where C^Npz^C=2,6‐bis(4‐ButC6H4)pyrazine dianion and R=Ph (1), C6H4tBu‐4 (2), 2‐pyridyl (3), 1‐naphthyl (1‐Np, 4), 2‐Np (5), quinolinyl (Quin, 6), 4‐methylcoumarinyl (Coum, 7) and 1‐adamantyl (8). The complexes were isolated as yellow to red solids in high yields using mild synthetic conditions. The single‐crystal X‐ray structures revealed that the colour of the deep‐red solids is associated with the formation of a particular type of short (3.2–3.3 Å) intermolecular pyrazine⋅⋅⋅pyrazine π‐interactions. In some cases, yellow and red crystal polymorphs were formed; only the latter were emissive at room temperature. Combined NMR and UV/Vis techniques showed that the supramolecular π‐stacking interactions persist in solution and give rise to intense deep‐red photoluminescence. Monomeric molecules show vibronically structured green emissions at low temperature, assigned to ligand‐based 3IL(C^N^C) triplet emissions. By contrast, the unstructured red emissions correlate mainly with a 3LLCT(SR→{(C^Npz^C)2}) charge transfer transition from the thiolate ligand to the π⋅⋅⋅π dimerized pyrazine. Unusually, the π‐interactions can be influenced by sample treatment in solution, such that the emissions can switch reversibly from red to green. To our knowledge this is the first report of aggregation‐enhanced emission in gold(III) chemistry.
