Abstract
Four new lanthanide(iii) coordination polymers (1–4) have been synthesized by using 2,5-dihydroxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate (Dhbdc, C8H6O62−) as a ligand and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, TGA-DSC (Thermogravimetric Analysis-Differential Scanning Calorimetry) and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The isolated complexes include; [Ce(Dhbdc)(H2O)3Cl]n (1) and [Ln(Dhbdc)1.5(H2O)2]n·3n(C2H6O)·nH2O [Ln = Eu (2), Gd (3) and Tb (4)]. The structural analysis reveals that compound 1 is a two-dimensional polymer in which the cerium atoms are coordinated by six oxygen and two bridging chloride ions adopting a dodecahedral geometry. The compounds 2–4 are isomorphous and their extended structures consist of three-dimensional supramolecular frameworks encapsulating [001] channels occupied by the guest water and ethanol molecules. The metal atoms in 2–4 exhibit a square antiprism geometry. All these compounds have O–H⋯O hydrogen bonds originating from the coordinated water and solvent molecules that help to consolidate the structures. The compounds 1, 3 and 4 were investigated for magnetic properties and they exhibited weak antiferromagnetic coupling interactions between the lanthanides as per the Curie Weiss law. Anisotropic nature of 3 and 4 has been depicted as per magnetization versus field plots. Complex 4 behaves as a soft magnetic material as compared to 3. The luminescence studies indicate that compounds 2, 3 and 4 show ligand-centred fluorescence, which is significantly enhanced in the case of 4. Four new lanthanide(iii) coordination polymers (1–4) have been synthesized by using 2,5-dihydroxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate as a ligand and investigated for magnetic and photo-luminescence properties.![]()

Abstract
Five new Lanthanide(III) complexes of malonic acid (HOOC-CH2-COOH); {[Gd(C3H2O4)(H2O)4]·NO3} n (1), {[Tb(C3H2O4)(H2O)4]·NO3} n (2), {[Ho(C3H2O4)(H2O)4]·NO3} n (3), [Er(C3H2O4)(C3H3O4)(H2O)2] n (4), and {[Eu2(C3H2O4)2(C3H3O4)2(H2O)6]·4H2O} n (5) were synthesized and characterized by elemental, infrared spectral, and thermal analyses. The structures of compounds 1-5 were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The X-ray analysis reveals that compounds 1, 2, and 3 are isostructural and crystallized in the orthorhombic space group Pmn21. The lanthanide(III) ions are coordinated by four carboxylate and four water oxygen atoms adopting a distorted square antiprism geometry. The LnO8 square antiprisms are linked into infinite layers by malonate (C3H2O 4 2 - ) dianions sandwiching sheets of nitrate counter ions. Compound 4 contains ErO8 square antiprisms linked into a two-dimensional network by hydrogen malonate (C3H3O 4 - ) anions and malonate dianions. The europium complex, 5 is dinuclear having the two europium(III) ions (Eu1 and Eu2) bridged by carboxylate groups of hydrogen malonate ligands. The europium ions in 5 are nine-coordinate and exhibit a distorted monocapped square antiprism geometry. All the structures are consolidated by O-H⋯ O hydrogen bonds. The photoluminescence spectra of 1-5 exhibit characteristic emissions in the visible region. The IR spectra and thermal data are consistent with the structural results. The room-temperature effective magnetic moments for 1-4 are in good agreement with those expected for the free ions, while the data for 5 indicates that low-lying excited states contribute to the observed moment. The compound 1 was further subjected to quantum computational calculations to explore its optoelectronic properties including; density of states (DOS), dielectric function, refractive index, extinction coefficient, and absorption spectrum, to highlight the possible applications of such materials in the optoelectronics.

Abstract
Abstract
An octanuclear compound of cerium(III), [Ce8(Pydc)10(HPydc)4.22H2O].11H2O (1) (Pydc=pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate anion) was prepared under mild solvothermal conditions and its crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Three kinds of coordination environments are observed, which include: [Ce(Pydc)3], [Ce(Pydc)(H2O)4(O,O)], and [Ce(H2O)7(O,O)]. Each cerium atom in 1 is nine-coordinated but two different geometries are found. The Ce1 and Ce2 atoms exhibit a nearly tricapped trigonal prismatic CeN3O6 geometry, while Ce3 and Ce4 possess CeNO8 and CeO9 coordination polyhedra, which approximate to slightly distorted mono-capped square antiprisms having 12 triangular faces. The Pydc ligands adopt tri-, tetra-, and penta-coordination modes through tridentate chelating and, μ
2
and μ
3
-bridging modes, respectively. The clusters are joined by O–H···O hydrogen bonds to generate 3D supramolecular network. Magnetic susceptibility measurements for 1 indicate that the χ
m values obey the Curie-Weiss law. The overall magnetic behavior is typical for the presence of antiferromagnetic exchange coupling interactions between the cerium(III) ions.

Abstract
Hydrothermal reactions of aromatic terphenyl-4,2'',5'',4'-tetracarboxylic acid (H4tta) and transitional metal cations in the presence of two flexible N-donor ancillary ligands afforded four novel coordination polymers, namely, {[Zn(tta)0.5(m-bimb)]·H2O}n (1), [Ni2(tta)(m-bimb)2(H2O)]n (2), [Ni(H2tta)(o-bimb)·H2O]n (3), and [Cd(tta)0.5(o-bimb)]n (4), from solvothermal reactions in the presence of bis(imidazole) bridging linkers (m-bimb = 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, and o-bimb = 1,2-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene). Their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by elemental analyses (EA), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric (TG) analyses. Compound 1 displayed a 2-fold 3D → 3D parallel entangled (4,4)-connected bbf net with the point symbol of (64·82)(66)2. Compound 2 featured a predocumented 3D (4,8)-connected (32·53·6)(34·44·59·611) net. Compound 3 exhibited a 2D 4-connected sql sheet with the point symbol of (44·62), and compound 4 showed a 2D 4-connected (32·62·72) kgm sheet. To our delight, fluorescence measurements showed that compound 1 could selectively and sensitively detect Cr3+ cations and nitrobenzene derivatives (nitrobenzene (NB), p-nitrotoluene (PNT), and p-nitroaniline (PNA)), which suggested that CPs of 1 was a promising bifunctional luminescence sensor material that could sense metal ions and small organic molecules. Moreover, 1 showed excellent photocatalytic activity.
