Abstract
Stereoselective synthesis is essential for propelling mainstream academia toward a relentless pursuit of novel and cutting-edge strategies for constructing molecules with unparalleled precision. Naturally derived benzopyrans, benzopyrones, and flavonoids are an essentially prominent group of oxa-heterocycles, highly significant targets in medicinal chemistry owing to their extensive abundance in biologically active natural products and pharmaceuticals. The molecular complexity and stereoselectivity induced by heterocycles embedded with C-glycosides have attracted considerable interest and emerged as a fascinating area of research for synthetic organic chemists. This present article emphasizes the existing growths in the strategies involving the diastereoselective synthesis of C-glycosylated benzopyrans, benzopyrones, and flavonoids using naturally acquired glycones as chiral synthons.

Abstract
The selective modification of carbohydrates is significant for producing their unnatural analogues for drug discovery. C1-functionalization (glycosylation) and C1,C2-difunctionalization of carbohydrates have been well developed. In contrast, C3-functionalization or C1,C3-difunctionalization of carbohydrates remains rare. Herein, we report such processes that efficiently and stereoselectively modify carbohydrates. Specifically, we found that trifluoroethanol (TFE) could promote 1,3-bis-indolylation/pyrrolylation of 2-nitroglycals generated carbohydrate derivatives in up to 93% yield at room temperature; slightly reducing the temperature could install two different indoles at the C1- and C3-positions. Switching TFE to a bifunctional amino thiourea catalyst leads to the generation of C3 monosubstituted carbohydrates, which could also be used to construct 1,3-di-C-functionalized carbohydrates. This approach produced a range of challenging sugar derivatives (over 80 examples) with controllable and high stereoselectivity (single isomer for over 90% of the examples). The potential applications of the reaction were demonstrated by a set of transformations including the synthesis of bridged large-ring molecules and gram scale reactions. Biological activities evaluation demonstrated that three compounds exhibit a potent inhibitory effect on human cancer cells T24, HCT116, AGS, and MKN-45 with IC50 ranged from 0.695 to 3.548 μM.

Abstract
AbstractMulticomponent reactions (MCRs) cover strategically employed chemical transformations that incorporate three or more reactants in one pot leading to a functionalized final product. Thus, it is an ideal tool to achieve high levels of complexity, diversity, yields of desired products, atom economy, and reduced reaction times. Sugars belong to the class of naturally occurring compounds with fascinating applications in the field of drug discovery due to the presence of various hydroxy groups and well-defined stereochemistry. However, their potential in MCRs has been realized only recently. This account describes recent advances in the synthesis of sugar-derived heterocycles synthesized by MCRs. We hope to encourage the synthetic and medicinal chemistry community to apply this powerful MCR chemistry to generate novel glycoconjugate challenges.1 Introduction2 Synthesis of Various Functionalized Sugar Compounds2.1 Passerini and Ugi Multicomponent Reactions2.2 Petasis Reaction2.3 Hantzsch Reaction2.4 Domino Ferrier–Povarov Reaction2.5 Marckwald Reaction2.6 Groebke–Blackburn–Bienaymé (GBB) Reaction2.7 Prins–Ritter Reaction2.8 Debus–Radziszewski Imidazole Synthesis Reaction2.9 Mannich Reaction2.10 A3-Coupling Reaction2.11 [3+2]-Cycloaddition Reactions2.12 Miscellaneous Reactions3 Conclusion

Abstract
Owing to the environmental concern worldwide and also due to cost, time and labour issues, use of one-pot reactions [domino/cascade/tandem/multi-component (MC) or sequential] has gained much attention among the scientific and industrial communities for the generation of compound libraries having different scaffolds. Inclusion of sugars in such compounds is expected to increase the pharmacological efficacy because of the possibility of better interactions with the receptors of such unnatural glycoconjugates. In many of the one-pot transformations, the presence of a metal salt/complex can improve the reaction/change the course of reaction with remarkable increase in chemo-/regio-/stereo-selectivity. On the other hand because of the importance of natural polymeric glycoconjugates in life processes, the development and efficient synthesis of related oligosaccharides, particularly utilising one-pot MC-glycosylation techniques are necessary. The present review is an endeavour to discuss one-pot transformations involving carbohydrates catalysed by a metal salt/complex.

Abstract
Glycals, 1,2-unsaturated sugar derivatives, are versatile starting materials for the synthesis of natural products and the generation of novel structural features in Diversity Oriented Synthesis (DOS). The versatility of glycals in synthesis emanates, among others, from the presence of the ring oxygen and the enol-ether type unsaturation, the different types of stable conformations they can adopt depending on the nature of the protecting groups present and the ease with which the protecting groups of the three hydroxy groups could be tailored to suite for a desired manipulation. This review summarizes the literature on the different transformations of the endo glycals into biologically relevant compounds such as chromans, thiochromans, chromenes, thiochromenes, peptidomimetics, bridged benzopyrans etc., as well as on the use of glycals as chiral building blocks for the synthesis of various natural products such as aspicilin, reblastatin, diospongins, decytospolides, osmundalactones, paclitaxel, isatisine, d-fagomine, and spliceostatin, reported post 2014.

Abstract
Triflic acid catalyzed cascade stereoselective reaction of glycals with styrenes delivers complex oxabicyclic scaffolds such as cis-oxadecalins or cis-cyclopentanofurans simply by tweaking the solvent. In the presence of participating solvents like benzene/toluene, cascade Ferrier C-glycosylation and double Friedel-Crafts reaction leads to densely chiral benzo-fused oxadecalins, whereas in DCM, an unprecedented ring-opening, ring-closing sequence generated cis-cyclopentanofurans. An attempt has been made to explain the above cascade sequences via intermediate trapping, kinetic experiments, and Baldwin's rules.
