Abstract
Various industries such as textile, leather, and paper mills discharge huge amount of industrial effluents to the environment containing unconsumed dyes and toxic heavy metal ions which are very harmful and carcinogenic in nature. The increase in water pollution is adversely impacting the ecosystems and human health. Now, it has become a great challenge to treat the contaminated water/wastewater. Photocatalysis and adsorption are the two techniques gaining significant attention for the removal of toxic pollutants from wastewater effectively. In this regard, metal oxide-based nanomaterials and their composites have gained profound attention in photocatalytic degradation as well as adsorptive removal of toxic pollutants from water due to their chemical reactivity, higher surface area, regeneration efficiency, ample adsorption sites, intriguing photocatalytic activity, and cost-effectiveness. However, the conventional methods, employed to synthesize these metal oxide nanocomposites, involve the use of toxic chemicals which again produce secondary pollutants. Among all biological materials, the use of plant biomolecules is found to be the most effective way to synthesize stable nanomaterials, as the phytoconstituents of plants act as reducing, capping, and stabilizing agent. It is experimentally proved that bio-based nanocomposites have tremendous potential towards the degradation of environmental pollutants. Thus, there is a great need to work on the synthesis of some novel plant-based metal oxide nanocomposites and their applications in the field of water treatment. This review mainly discusses the metal oxide nanocomposites synthesized using plant specimens and their various applications towards treatment of water/wastewater.

Abstract
The adoption of plant-derived natural products to synthesize metal nanoparticles and their complexes has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, environmental protection, sustainability and simple operation compared with traditional physical or chemical synthesis methods. Herein, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were in situ synthesized on the surface of graphene oxide (GO) by a “one-pot reaction” to prepare graphene oxide-silver nanoparticles composite (GO-AgNPs) based on using AgNO3 as the precursor of AgNPs and gallic acid (GA) as the reducing agent and stabilizer. The size and morphology of GO-AgNPs were characterized by ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer (Uv-vis), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The effects of pH, temperature, time and material ratio on the synthesis of GO-AgNPs were investigated experimentally. The results showed that ideal GO-AgNPs could be prepared under the conditions of pH = 9, 45°C, 2 h and the 2:1 of molar ratio of AgNO3 to GA. The AgNPs within GO-AgNPs are highly crystalline spherical particles with moderate density on the surface of GO, and the size of AgNPs is relatively uniform and determined to be about 8.19 ± 4.21 nm. The research results will provide new ideas and references for the green synthesis of metal nanoparticles and their complexes using plant-derived natural products as the reducing agent and stabilizer.

Abstract
In this work, a screen-printed electrode (SPE) modified by 1,3/1,4-diazines was prepared for the rapid and sensitive determination of nitrobenzene (NB). The obtained results indicated enhanced cathodic currents of direct NB reduction into hydroxylaminophenol on the diazine-modified SPEs. The enhanced effect was most likely due to the combination of complexation and collisional processes of diazines towards nitroaromatic compounds and also the diazine-modified electrodes' increased electroconductivity. The best electrochemical responses were obtained in square wave voltammetry mode by using the carbazolyl substituted diazines as a component of the sensitive layer, which was assembled by co-electropolymerization with the unsubstituted carbazole on the electrode during 5 cycles. The low detection limit estimated as 0.107 μM and wide linear range (1-1000 µM) enables NB in water and food samples to be determined. The developed modified electrode was applied in the analysis of commercial honey samples.

Abstract
The synthesis of terpenes is a large field of research that is woven deeply into the history of chemistry. Terpene biosynthesis is a case study of how the logic of a modular design can lead to diverse structures with unparalleled efficiency. This work leverages modern nickel-catalyzed electrochemical sp2-sp3 decarboxylative coupling reactions, enabled by silver nanoparticle-modified electrodes, to intuitively assemble terpene natural products and complex polyenes by using simple modular building blocks. The step change in efficiency of this approach is exemplified through the scalable preparation of 13 complex terpenes, which minimized protecting group manipulations, functional group interconversions, and redox fluctuations. The mechanistic aspects of the essential functionalized electrodes are studied in depth through a variety of spectroscopic and analytical techniques.

Manganese Molybdenum Oxide Micro Rods Adorned Porous Carbon Hybrid Electrocatalyst for Electrochemical Determination of Furazolidone in Environmental Fluids. Catalysts 2021. Abstract
The frequent occurrence of furazolidone (FZD) in environmental fluids reveals the ongoing increase in use and raises concerns about the need of monitoring it. To investigate the electrochemical behavior of FZD, a novel sensor of manganese molybdenum oxide (MMO) micro rods adorned three-dimensional porous carbon (PC) electrocatalyst was constructed. The crystalline structure and surface morphology of the MMO/PC composite was characterized by XRD, Raman, FESEM, and HR-TEM. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and amperometric(i-t) methods were used to assess the electrocatalytic activity of modified electrodes. In the presence of FZD, the as-fabricated MMO/PC modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) performed better at lower potentials with a greater peak current than other modified GCE. These results emanate from the synergistic effect of the MMO/PC suspension on the GCE. The electrochemical behavior of the amperometric(i-t) technique was used to determine FZD. Amperometric(i-t) detection yielded linear dynamic ranges of 150 nM to 41.05 µM and 41.05 to 471.05 µM with detection limits of 30 nM. The MMO/PC hybrid sensor was also effectively used to detect FZD in environmental fluids, yielding ultra-trace level detection.

Abstract
Silver vanadate nanorods (β-AgVO3) with silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) decorated on the surface of the rods were synthesized by using simple hydrothermal technique and later anchored onto nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (N-rGO) to make a novel nanocomposite. Experimental analyses were carried out to identify the electronic configuration by X-ray diffraction analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis, which revealed monoclinic patterns of the C12/m1 space group with Wulff construction forming beta silver vanadate (β-AgVO3) crystals with optical density and phase transformations. Ag nucleation showed consistent results with metallic formation and electronic changes occurring in [AgO5] and [AgO3] clusters. Transmission electron microscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscopy with elemental mapping and EDX analysis of the morphology reveals the nanorod structure for β-AgVO3 with AgNPs on the surface and sheets for N-rGO. Additionally, a novel electrochemical sensor is constructed by using Ag/AgVO3/N-rGO on screen-printed carbon paste electrodes for the detection of antiviral drug levofloxacin (LEV) which is used as a primary antibiotic in controlling COVID-19. Using differential pulse voltammetry, LEV is determined with a low detection limit of 0.00792 nm for a linear range of 0.09-671 μM with an ultrahigh sensitivity of 152.19 μA μM-1 cm-2. Furthermore, modified electrode performance is tested by real-time monitoring using biological and river samples.

Abstract
This study focusses on the effect of chitosan coating with eggshell membranes for the reduction of different organic pollutants. Chickens eggs were collected from the local market and utilized to extract the enrich eggshell membranes (ESM). The chicken eggshell membranes are abundant waste material which is inexpensive and illustrates remarkable physiognomies for many possible applications. Fresh fibers/strips coated by chitosan (CS) were prepared by mixing the eggshell membranes with CS solution (2 wt%/v) in different proportions i.e., 10 %, 30 %, 50 %, 60 %, 70 %, 80 %, and 90 %. These strips were then templated with copper and iron metal nanoparticles by putting them in their metal ions aqueous solution to adsorb the metals ions and were then reduced to zero-valent metal nanoparticles (MNPS) by using NaBH4 aqueous solution. These prepared materials (MNPS@ESM-CS) were characterized by using XRD, XPS, FE-SEM, and EDS to confirm the successful preparation of MNPs over the surface of ESM coated with CS. Afterwards, these prepared materials were investigated as a catalyst for the reduction of different organic pollutants, such as 4-nitroaniline (4-NA), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and methylene blue (MB) dye. The catalytic efficiency of ESM was enhanced 5.7-fold by adding only 20 % CS solution. It was observed that Cu@ESM-CS-80 % took 7 min for reduction of 4-NA, 6 min for 4-NP, and 7 min for MB dye. The reusability of the catalytic strip was also investigated for four cycles and found efficient and can be easily recovered by simply pulling it from the reaction mixture.

Abstract
In this study, porous covalent organic frameworks (COFs, named as COFs-SWMU) were synthesized for the first time via a facile approach by using 4,4',4''-methylidynetri-anilin and 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzenedicarboxaldehyde as precursors under ambient temperature. The COFs-SWMU were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, etc. The COFs-SWMU exhibited a relatively high specific surface area and desirable thermal stability. The adsorption performance of COFs-SWMU towards fluoronitrobenzenes (FNBs, including 1-fluoro-2-nitrobenzene, 1-fluoro-3-nitrobenzene, 1-fluoro-4-nitrobenzene, 2,4-difluoronitrobenzene, 3,4-difluoronitrobenzene, and 3,4-dinitrofluorobenzene) was investigated on the basis of adsorption capacity and partition coefficient (PC). The adsorption kinetics and isotherm of COFs-SWMU for FNBs were studied in detail. Further, a simple, fast and sensitive method which combined COFs-SWMU based extraction with high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection, was proposed for the analysis of FNBs in environmental samples. Desirable linearity (R2>0.9998) in the range of 0.1-100 μg•mL-1, low limits of detection (LODs; 0.1‒0.15 μg•mL‒1), low limits of quantitation (LOQs; 0.28‒0.40 μg•mL‒1), and desirable precision (RSDs, 0.24-2.83% for intraday and 1.13-6.92% for interday) are obtained. Finally, the COFs-SWMU were applied to the effective extraction of FNBs from environmental samples, and desirable recovery results were obtained.

Abstract
Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine-disrupting chemical which resembles structurally the hormone estrogen. Even a trace amount of BPA can bind estrogen receptors resulting in the inducement of reproductive disorders, cancers and problems related to sexual growth such as manliness in female and womanliness in male. So the determination of BPA in human and animal bodies is very essential. For this purpose, a new nanocomposite composed of ruthenium nanoparticles, polyaniline and graphitic carbon nitride (Ru0/PANI/g-C3N4) has been synthesized ultrasonically (40 ± 3 kHz, 200 W). A modification on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with the nanocomposite detects BPA in human and animal urine samples with wide linear range (0.01-1.1 µM) and the limit of detection is pico molar-level. The synthesized nanocomposite was characterized by Ultraviolet-Visible and Fourier Transform-Infra Red spectroscopies, thermo gravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction study, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and elemental mapping analysis. This sensing system is selective, stable and reusable, by which the detection of BPA in various physiological fluids is very much possible.

Abstract
Bioactive compound functionalized plasmonic systems are evolving as a promising branch of nanotechnology. In this communication the synthesis of bioactive compound mimosine-based silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and their non-linear optical and thermo-optic properties are presented. UV-Visible spectroscopy, optical bandgap measurement, fluorescence spectroscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) techniques were used to characterize the synthesized AgNPs. An open aperture z-scan technique was used to determine the non-linear optical parameters. A very strong reverse saturable absorption (RSA) and low optical limiting threshold were observed for the present mimosine decorated AgNP system. The thermo-optic property of the present system was evaluated using a highly sensitive dual beam mode matched thermal lensing spectroscopic technique. A comparison of the low limiting threshold (242MWcm−2) and thermo-optic property (thermal diffusivity, D=1.13×10−7m2s−1) with similar systems proves its capability for non-linear optical and thermo-optic applications.

Abstract
Graphene has been employed as an excellent support for metal nanomaterials because of its unique structural and physicochemical properties. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with exceptional properties have received considerable attention in various fields; however, particle aggregation limits its application. Therefore, the combination of AgNPs and graphene based nanocomposites (Ag-graphene based nanocomposites) has been widely explored to improve their properties and applications. Excitingly, enhanced antimicrobial, catalytic, and surface enhanced Raman scattering properties are obtained after their combination. In order to have a comprehensive knowledge of these nanocomposites, this Review highlights the chemical and biological synthesis of Ag-graphene nanocomposites. In particular, their applications as antimicrobial agents, catalysts, and sensors in biomedicine, agricultural protection, and environmental remediation and detection are covered. Meanwhile, the factors that influence the synthesis and applications are also briefly discussed. Furthermore, several important issues on the challenges and new directions are also provided for further development of these nanocomposites.

Abstract
Nitrobenzene (NB) is a widespread and highly toxic organic pollutant in water, and consequently its detection and removal have attracted considerable attention. In the present study, we designed and synthesized a novel coordination polymer, [AgL0.5(NO3)]n (1), {L = 25,26,27,28-tetra[(3-pyridylmethyl)oxy]calix[4]arene}, from AgNO3 and a tetra-pyridyl-functionalized calix[4]arene ligand, which possessed a 2D network based on [Ag4L(NO3)4] units. The 1-modified glassy carbon electrode (1/GCE) exhibited good electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of NB, offering the selective detection of NB in a wide linear range (1-2450 μM) and a low detection limit (0.62 μM). Furthermore, it displayed excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of NB in aqueous solution under UV light. The kinetics of the catalytic degradation reaction and the stability of the catalyst were also studied. These results indicated that compound 1 is a favorable material for the effective determination and degradation of NB, which makes it a promising candidate in both monitoring water quality and treating wastewater.

Abstract
This mini-review covers the newly developed biosensoristic and chemosensoristic devices described in recent literature for detection of contaminants in both environmental and food real matrices. Current needs in environmental and food surveillance of contaminants require new simplified, sensitive systems, which are portable and allow for rapid and on-site monitoring and diagnostics. Here, we focus on optical and electrochemical bio/chemosensoristic devices as promising tools with interesting analytical features that can be potentially exploited for innovative on-site and real-time applications for diagnostics and monitoring of environmental and food matrices (e.g., agricultural waters and milk). In near future, suitably developed and implemented bio/chemosensoristic devices will be a new and modern technological solution for the identification of new quality and safety marker indexes as well as for a more proper and complete characterization of abovementioned environmental and food matrices. Integrated bio/chemosensoristic devices can also allow an “holistic approach” that may prove to be more suitable for diagnostics of environmental and food real matrices, where the copresence of more bioactive substances is frequent. Therefore, this approach can be focused on the determination of net effect (mixture effect) of bioactive substances present in real matrices.
