Abstract
A novel fluorescence probe L2 based on coumarin has been designed and synthesized. The probe L2 can be used for relay recognition of metal ions Al3+ and anion F- in the aqueous HEPES buffer (0.05 M, pH = 7.4), and build a OFF-ON-OFF detection system. The probe showed high selectivity and sensitivity to target ions in the process of relay recognition, and the corresponding detection limit could be as low as 0.014 μM (Al3+) and 0.03 μM (F-). Besides, the geometry optimizations of probe L2 and [L2 + Al3+] complex were carried out using the Gaussian 16 program based on DFT, and the identification mechanism of the probe was also discussed by the mass spectrometry and theoretical calculations. Moreover, the probe has also been successfully applied to detection of target ions in living cells.

Abstract
Excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) has been a topic of interest due to its potential to lead to multiple emissions. Although many organic molecules showing ESIPT emission are already known, studies on metal complexes showing ESIPT and their related theoretical understandings are very limited. In this study, we focus on [Zn(hqxc)2(DMSO)2] (Zn-hqxc: hqxc = 3-hydroxy-2-quinoxalinecarboxylate, DMSO = dimethyl sulfoxide), which shows ESIPT emission in the solid state, even though the hqxcH ligand does not show ESIPT emission. To gain insights into the role of the zinc atom and the emission mechanisms, we examined excited states of free hqxcH and the Zn-hqxc complex using time-dependent density functional theory calculations. From the results, it was shown that the zinc atom triggers a structural change of the hqxcH ligand from the lactam form (3,4-dihydro-3-oxo-2-quinoxalinecarboxylic acid) to the enol form (3-hydroxy-2-quinoxalinecarboxylic acid), where the latter form has several stable excited states. Several stable geometries were found for singlet and triplet excited states, suggesting that emissions for the Zn-hqxc complex can be both phosphorescence and fluorescence caused by the enol-enol, keto-keto, and keto-enol forms of the two hqcx ligands in the complex. We found that the photophysical properties of the Zn-hqxc complex are dominated by the ligand due to the filled d10 of Zn(II). The presented results suggest that, to design new ESIPT metal complexes, one possible approach is to combine a metal atom showing ligand centered emission and a ligand that has separate ESIPT and coordination sites.

Al 3+ enhanced room temperature phosphorescence of Pd-porphyrin resided in hybrid supramolecular gels and used for detection of trace Hg 2+ ions. Talanta 2018; 194:183-188. Abstract
Micelle-hybridized supramolecular hydrogels were constructed through the self-assembly of gelator N,N-dibenzoyl-L-cystine (DBC) and micelles formed from a Gemini surfactant (G12-8-12). A phosphor, palladium meso-tetra (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (Pd-TCPP) and Al3+ ions were loaded within the hybrid system. Interestingly, the room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) of Pd-TCPP can be efficiently enhanced and modulated by the concentration of Al3+ ions. The enhancement effect could be attributed to the interactions between Al3+ and DBC as well as porphyrin, which verified by 1H NMR analysis. The study of transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy indicated that a more compact 3D network structure of the gel system was formed upon the addition of Al3+. In addition, measurement of critical micelle concentration indicated that Al3+ ions increase the surface activity of G12-8-12 to promote micelle formation, thereby increasing the dispersion of Pd-TCPP in the hybrid gels. Based on the synergistic effect of these results, the non-radiative transition of Pd-TCPP was efficiently inhibited, resulting in highly efficient RTP. Furthermore, the enhanced RTP of as-prepared gel system shows potential application to detect trace Hg2+ ions because the RTP can be quenched by Hg2+. A linear relationship between RTP against the logarithmic concentration of Hg2+ was found over the range of 6 × 10-8 and 1 × 10-6 mol/L. The detection limit was found to be 0.017 nmol/L.
