Abstract
Distinct types of new boron fused primary amino amide organocatalysts were designed and synthesized from commercially available amino acids. Their catalytic activities were investigated in asymmetric crossed aldol reaction of ketones with aromatic aldehydes to afford the corresponding chiral anti-aldol adducts with good chemical yields, moderate diastereoselectivity and good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 94% yields, up to 90 : 10 dr, up to 94% ee).

Abstract
A rhodium-catalyzed intramolecular reductive aldol-type cyclization is described to give β-hydroxylactones with high diastereoselectivities. The stereoselectivity of this cyclization is highly solvent dependent and can give syn- or anti-β-hydroxylactones with high diastereoselectivity. This methodology was also applied to the synthesis of a chiral necic acid lactone which is a structural component of the pyrrolizidine alkaloid monocrotaline.

Abstract
This review collects for the first time enantioselective one-pot processes promoted
by green chiral zinc catalysts. It illustrates how much these cheap, non-toxic and environmentally
benign catalysts allow unprecedented asymmetric domino and tandem reactions of many
types to be achieved, allowing direct access to a wide variety of very complex chiral molecules.

Abstract
A straightforward approach to new polycyclic heterocycles, 1H-benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-c][1,3]oxazin-1-ones, is presented. It is based on the ZnCl2-promoted deprotective 6-endo-dig heterocyclization of N-Boc-2-alkynylbenzimidazoles under mild conditions (CH2Cl2, 40 °C for 3 h). The zinc center plays a dual role, as it promotes Boc deprotection (with formation of the tert-butyl carbocation, which can be trapped by substrates bearing a nucleophilic group) and activates the triple bond toward intramolecular nucleophilic attack by the carbamate group. The structure of representative products has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract
Here we interrogate the structurally dense (1.64 mcbits/Å3) GABAA receptor antagonist bilobalide, intermediates en route to its synthesis, and related mechanistic questions. 13C isotope labeling identifies an unexpected bromine migration en route to an α-selective, catalytic asymmetric Reformatsky reaction, ruling out an asymmetric allylation pathway. Experiment and computation converge on the driving forces behind two surprising observations. First, an oxetane acetal persists in concentrated mineral acid (1.5 M DCl in THF-d8/D2O); its longevity is correlated to destabilizing steric clash between substituents upon ring-opening. Second, a regioselective oxidation of des-hydroxybilobalide is found to rely on lactone acidification through lone-pair delocalization, which leads to extremely rapid intermolecular enolate equilibration. We also establish equivalent effects of (-)-bilobalide and the nonconvulsive sesquiterpene (-)-jiadifenolide on action potential-independent inhibitory currents at GABAergic synapses, using (+)-bilobalide as a negative control. The high information density of bilobalide distinguishes it from other scaffolds and may characterize natural product (NP) space more generally. Therefore, we also include a Python script to quickly (ca. 132 000 molecules/min) calculate information content (Böttcher scores), which may prove helpful to identify important features of NP space.

Double role of metalloporphyrins in catalytic bioinspired supramolecular metal-organic frameworks (SMOFs). IUCRJ 2018; 5:559-568. Abstract
Heterogeneous catalysts are of great interest in many industrial processes for environmental reasons and, during recent years, a great effort has been devoted to obtain metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with improved catalytic behaviour. Few supramolecular metal-organic frameworks (SMOFs) are stable under ambient conditions and those with anchored catalysts exhibit favourable properties. However, this paper presents an innovative approach that consists of using metal nodes as both structural synthons and catalysts. Regarding the latter, metalloporphyrins are suitable candidates to play both roles simultaneously. In fact, there are a number of papers that report coordination compounds based on metalloporphyrins exhibiting these features. Thus, the aim of this bioinspired work was to obtain stable SMOFs (at room temperature) based on metallo-porphyrins and explore their catalytic activity. This work reports the environmentally friendly microwave-assisted synthesis and characterization of the compound [H(bipy)]2[(MnTPPS)(H2O)2]·2bipy·14H2O (TPPS = meso-tetra-phenyl-porphine-4,4',4'',4'''-tetra-sulfonic acid and bipy = 4,4'-bi-pyridine). This compound is the first example of an MnTPPS-based SMOF, as far as we are aware, and has been structurally and thermally characterized through single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetry and transmission electron microscopy. Additionally, this work explores not only the catalytic activity of this compound but also of the compounds μ-O-[FeTCPP]2·16DMF and [CoTPPS0.5(bipy)(H2O)2]·6H2O. The structural features of these supra-molecular materials, with accessible networks and high thermal stability, are responsible for their excellent behaviour as heterogeneous catalysts for different oxidation, condensation (aldol and Knoevenagel) and one-pot cascade reactions.

Abstract
The use of achiral surfactant assemblies as a reaction platform for an alkylation reaction resulted in a high enantiomeric excess. Dilauryldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB) vesicles were modified with cholesterol to promote alkylation of N-(diphenylmethylene)glycine tert-butyl ester (DMGBE) with benzyl bromide, resulting in high conversion (∼90%) and high enantioselectivity (up to 80%). The R-enantiomer was formed on using the DDAB vesicles, whereas the use of phospholipid liposomes prepared from 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC) produced an excess of the S-enantiomer. Considering the chemical structures of the reaction substrates and amphiphiles as well as the membrane structures and properties of DDAB vesicles and DOPC liposomes, it is suggested that the enantiomeric excesses result from the location of the quaternary amine of the amphiphiles and the DMGBE at the outer surface of the membrane. We show that the enantioselective reaction at the surface of the self-assembly could be regulated by adjusting the chemical structures and resulting membrane properties of the self-assembly.
