Abstract
Bacterial infections are regarded as one of the leading causes of fatal morbidity and death in patients infected with diseases. The ability of microorganisms, particularly methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), to develop resistance to current drugs has evoked the need for a continuous search for new drugs with better efficacies. Hence, a series of non-PAINS associated pyrrolylated-chalcones (1–15) were synthesized and evaluated for their potency against MRSA. The hydroxyl-containing compounds (8, 9, and 10) showed the most significant anti-MRSA efficiency, with the MIC and MBC values ranging from 0.08 to 0.70 mg/mL and 0.16 to 1.88 mg/mL, respectively. The time-kill curve and SEM analyses exhibited bacterial cell death within four hours after exposure to 9, suggesting its bactericidal properties. Furthermore, the docking simulation between 9 and penicillin-binding protein 2a (PBP2a, PDB ID: 6Q9N) suggests a relatively similar bonding interaction to the standard drug with a binding affinity score of −7.0 kcal/mol. Moreover, the zebrafish model showed no toxic effects in the normal embryonic development, blood vessel formation, and apoptosis when exposed to up to 40 µM of compound 9. The overall results suggest that the pyrrolylated-chalcones may be considered as a potential inhibitor in the design of new anti-MRSA agents.

Abstract
The influences of reaction parameters on the etherification of phenols to obtain 1-bromo-2-aryloxyethane derivatives were evaluated. The compounds were prepared by direct etherification of phenols with 1,2-dibromoethane using anhydrous K2CO3 and acetonitrile as solvent reaction, at 80°C, in a reaction time of 6 h. Under these conditions, excellent yields (71%–94%) were obtained, with low yields of secondary products. The anhydrous K2CO3 was recycled by simple filtration, dried in vacuum, and reused. The compounds were characterized by conventional spectral data (MS and NMR). Larvicidal activity results showed a 100% larval mortality after 24-hour exposure to the compound 1-(2-bromoethoxy)-2-phenylbenzene.

Study of the Molecular Properties of Mono- and Binuclear Metal s-Indacenyl Complexes with Ir, Rh, and Re: A Theoretical Approach. J CHEM-NY 2017. Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed on a new family of mono- and bimetallic complexes, containing 4,8-([10]paracyclophane)-1,5-dihydro-s-indacene as the bridging ligand between the two metallic centers and different ancillary ligands. The s-indacene was blocked by substitution of the central benzene ring with the [10]paracyclophane to obtain the syn-conformations. This would force the metallic centers to be close together. It is proposed, due to the calculated molecular and electronic properties such as the reactivity indexes, the delocalized nature of the s-indacenyl ligand, and the electron-rich metals, that these systems could be reactive in a catalytic reaction. The results indicate that the systems with Rh and Re holding ancillary ligands such as bipy and CO show the best properties to be active in a chemical reaction. In this sense, by the assessed geometrical and electronic properties, when compared with a previously reported system, these complexes could be candidates for the reduction of CO2 to oxalate.

Phenolic Melatonin-Related Compounds: Their Role as Chemical Protectors against Oxidative Stress. Molecules 2016; 21:molecules21111442. Abstract
There is currently no doubt about the serious threat that oxidative stress (OS) poses to human health. Therefore, a crucial strategy to maintain a good health status is to identify molecules capable of offering protection against OS through chemical routes. Based on the known efficiency of the phenolic and melatonin (MLT) families of compounds as antioxidants, it is logical to assume that phenolic MLT-related compounds should be (at least) equally efficient. Unfortunately, they have been less investigated than phenols, MLT and its non-phenolic metabolites in this context. The evidence reviewed here strongly suggests that MLT phenolic derivatives can act as both primary and secondary antioxidants, exerting their protection through diverse chemical routes. They all seem to be better free radical scavengers than MLT and Trolox, while some of them also surpass ascorbic acid and resveratrol. However, there are still many aspects that deserve further investigations for this kind of compounds.
