“The behavior of some terpolymers as lubricating oil additives”

In this work, we prepared different alkyl acrylates by esterifying acrylic acid with different alcohols (decanol, dodecanol, hexadecanol and octadecanol). Anilimide was then produced by the reaction of aniline with maleic anhydride. Different teropolymers were prepared by polymerization reaction of anilimide, different alkyl acrylate esters and olefins in different ratios. The thermal stability of the prepared terpolymers was measured by thermal gravimetric analysis which demonstrated a high thermal stability. The polymers were degraded above 500 °C. The rheology behavior shows shear-thinning, it approaches the ideal Newtonian behavior in case of polymer (C). The prepared terpolymers succeeded in raising the viscosity index of oil to 118 in case of polymer (C) and decreasing the pour point of oil to -12 in case of polymer (E).

Synthesis of Novel Thermostable Polyamideimides from Bis(2-aminoethyl)terephthalamide and Dianhydrides

Bis(2-aminoethyl)terephthalamide, an amide-containing diamine, was obtained from the aminolysis of waste poly(ethylene terephthalate) bottles. This diamine reacts with various aromatic dianhydrides to form novel polyamideimides (PAIs). The formation of amic acid or ammonium carboxylate salt intermediates depends strongly on the substituents of the dianhydrides. The electron-withdrawing substituents promote the creation of an ammonium carboxylate salt, whereas the electron donors assist with the amic acid intermediate formation. These salts and amic acids were further converted into polyimides by thermal treatment. The structures of the intermediates and PAIs were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and 13C NMR spectroscopies, and their thermal properties were determined by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetry. X-ray diffraction patterns and inherent viscosity values of these PAIs were also reported. By using these chemical transformations, waste poly(ethylene terephthalate) bottles were converted into high-performance PAIs. These PAIs can be used as membrane-modifying agents for industrial separation applications.

Synthesis and characterization of poly(amide-imide)s derived from a new ortho-functional unsymmetrical dicarboxylic acid

Herein, we report a new diacid monomer containing an imide ring and a methoxy pendant group, 3-trimellitimido-4-methoxybenzoic acid TMBA, for the preparation of poly(amide-imide)s.

Poly(tris(4-carbazoyl-9-ylphenyl)amine)/Three Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) Derivatives in Complementary High-Contrast Electrochromic Devices

A carbazole-based polymer (poly(tris(4-carbazoyl-9-ylphenyl)amine) (PtCz)) is electrosynthesized on an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode. PtCz film displays light yellow at 0.0 V, earthy yellow at 1.3 V, grey at 1.5 V, and dark grey at 1.8 V in 0.2 M LiClO₄/ACN/DCM (ACN/DCM = 1:3, by volume) solution. The ΔT and coloration efficiency (η) of PtCz film are 30.5% and 54.8 cm²∙C-1, respectively, in a solution state. Three dual-type electrochromic devices (ECDs) are fabricated using the PtCz as the anodic layer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), poly(3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydro-thieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxepine) (PProDOT-Me₂), and poly(3,4-(2,2-diethylpropylenedioxy)thiophene) (PProDOT-Et₂) as the cathodic layers. PtCz/PProDOT-Me₂ ECD shows high ΔTmax (36%), high ηmax (343.4 cm²·C-1), and fast switching speed (0.2 s) at 572 nm. In addition, PtCz/PEDOT, PtCz/PProDOT-Me₂, and PtCz/PProDOT-Et₂ ECDs show satisfactory open circuit memory and long-term stability.

Functional Aromatic Polyamides

We describe herein the state of the art following the last 8 years of research into aromatic polyamides, wholly aromatic polyamides or aramids. These polymers belong to the family of high performance materials because of their exceptional thermal and mechanical behavior. Commercially, they have been transformed into fibers mainly for production of advanced composites, paper, and cut and fire protective garments. Huge research efforts have been carried out to take advantage of the mentioned characteristics in advanced fields related to transport applications, optically active materials, electroactive materials, smart materials, or materials with even better mechanical and thermal behavior.
