Abstract
To precise screening concentration of ascorbic acid (AA), a novel electrochemical sensor was prepared using palladium nanoparticles decorated on nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dot modified glassy carbon electrode (PdNPs@N-GQD/GCE). For this purpose, nitrogen doped GQD nanoparticles (N-GQD) were synthesized from a citric acid condensation reaction in the presence of ethylenediamine and subsequently modified by palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs). The electrochemical behavior of AA was investigated, in which the oxidation peak appeared at 0 V related to the AA oxidation. Considering the synergistic effect of Pd nanoparticles as an active electrocatalyst, and N-GQD as an electron transfer accelerator and electrocatalytic activity improving agent, PdNPs@N-GQD hybrid materials showed excellent activity in the direct oxidation of AA. In the optimal conditions, the voltammetric response was linear in the range from 30 to 700 nM and the detection limit was calculated to be 23 nM. The validity and the efficiency of the proposed sensor were successfully tested and confirmed by measuring AA in real samples of chewing tablets, and fruit juice.

Abstract
A Cu-Fe bimetallic hydrogel (2-QF-CuFe-G) was constructed through a simple method. The 2-QF-CuFe-G metallohydrogel possesses excellent peroxidase-like activity to catalyze the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of H2O2. The catalytic mechanism was confirmed by the addition of •OH radical scavenger isopropyl alcohol (IPA), tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) and ˙OH trapping agent terephthalic acid (TA). Remarkably, the resultant blue ox-TMB system can be used to selectively and sensitively detect ascorbic acid (AA) with an LOD of 0.93 μM in the range of 4-36 μM through the colorimetric method. Moreover, the assay based on the 2-QF-CuFe-G metallohydrogel can be successfully applied to detect AA in fresh fruits.

Abstract
In evolution of instrumentation for analytical chemistry as crucial technological breakthroughs should be considered a common introduction of electronics with all its progress in integration, and then microprocessors which was followed by a widespread computerization. It is seems that a similar role can be attributed to the introduction of various elements of modern nanotechnology, observed with a fast progress since beginning of this century. It concerns all areas of the applications of analytical chemistry, including also progress in flow analysis, which are being developed since the middle of 20th century. Obviously, it should not be omitted the developed earlier and analytically applied planar structures like lipid membranes or self-assembled monolayers They had essential impact prior to discoveries of numerous extraordinary nanoparticles such as fullerenes, carbon nanotubes and graphene, or nanocrystalline semiconductors (quantum dots). Mostly, due to catalytic effects, significantly developed surface and the possibility of easy functionalization, their application in various stages of flow analytical procedures can significantly improve them. The application of new nanomaterials may be used for the development of new detection methods for flow analytical systems in macro-flow setups as well as in microfluidics and lateral flow immunoassay tests. It is also advantageous that quick flow conditions of measurements may be helpful in preventing unfavorable agglomeration of nanoparticles. A vast literature published already on this subject (e.g. almost 1000 papers about carbon nanotubes and flow-injection analytical systems) implies that for this reviews it was necessary to make an arbitrary selection of reported examples of this trend, focused mainly on achievements reported in the recent decade.

Abstract
This paper reports the results obtained from the determination of ascorbic acid with platinum-based voltammetric sensors modified with potassium hexacyanoferrate-doped polypyrrole. The preparation of the modified electrodes was carried out by electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole from aqueous solutions, using chronoamperometry. Polypyrrole films were deposited on the surface of the platinum electrode, by applying a constant potential of 0.8 V for 30 s. The thickness of the polymer film was calculated from the chronoamperometric data, and the value was 0.163 μm. Cyclic voltammetry was the method used for the Pt/PPy-FeCN electrode electrochemical characterization in several types of solution, including KCl, potassium ferrocyanide, and ascorbic acid. The thin doped polymer layer showed excellent sensitivity for ascorbic acid detection. From the voltammetric studies carried out in solutions of different concentrations of ascorbic acid, ranging from 1 to 100 × 10−6 M, a detection limit of 2.5 × 10−7 M was obtained. Validation of the analyses was performed using pharmaceutical products with different concentrations of ascorbic acid, from different manufacturers and presented in various pharmaceutical forms, i.e., intravascular administration ampoules, chewable tablets, and powder for oral suspension.

Abstract
This work presents the use of a 96-well plate as headspaces for the determination of ascorbic acid in samples loaded in the 96-well plate. Ascorbic acid in the sample is oxidized to iodide by the addition of excess acidic iodate solution into the well. The iodide is further oxidized by the remaining iodate to molecular iodine. A single sheet of moist starch indicator paper is immediately placed over the 96-well plate after the addition of the iodate with the moisture forming a gas seal. The iodine gas in each well diffuses through the headspace to react with the starch paper producing circular areas of a colored starch-iodine complex. After 15 min the indicator paper is scanned, and the digital images of the complex are analyzed by using ImageJ software to obtain blue intensity values. The precision of the intensity values from 12 wells containing 20 μL of 2.84 mM standard ascorbic acid is <2% relative standard deviation. Optimal conditions for detection were investigated, including the starch concentration, the acidic iodate reagent, and the measurement time. The linear calibration range of ascorbic acid is 0.284-2.84 mM, based on the plot of concentration vs. -log(reflectance). The coefficient of determination (r2) is >0.998. Samples of fruit juice and dietary supplements were analyzed for their ascorbic acid contents. The results obtained from the headspace reflectance method are not statistically different from values obtained from the titration method using paired t-tests (α = 0.05).

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are high surface-to-volume ratio crystalline hybrid porous coordination materials composed of metal ions as nodes and organic linkers. The goal of this paper was to provide an updated and comprehensive state-of-the-art review of MOFs for different food applications such as active food contact materials, antimicrobial nanocarriers, controlled release nanosystems for active compounds, nanofillers for food packaging materials, food nanoreactors, food substance nanosensors, stabilizers and immobilizers for active compounds and enzymes, and extractors of food contaminants. Extraction and sensing of several food contaminants have been the main food applications of MOFs. The other applications listed above require further investigation, as they are at an early stage. However, interesting results are being reported for these other fields. Finally, an important limitation of MOFs has been the use of non-renewable feedstocks for their synthesis, but this has recently been solved through the manufacture and use of γ-cyclodextrin-based MOFs.

Abstract
Artificial nanozymes are designed for pursuing the functions of splendid catalytic efficiency and prominent selectivity of natural enzymes, meanwhile obtaining higher stability than that of natural enzymes. This emerging technology shows widespread application in the crossing field between nanotechnology and biomedicine. In this work, we employed a universal approach to fabricate a Co@N-CNTs hybrid nanocomposite as an oxidase mimic, in which fine Co nanoparticles were wrapped in N-doped carbon nanotubes, stacking on a hollow dodecahedron carbon skeleton. The synergistic effects of nanostructure engineering, N-doping and carbon coating, as well as the derived interfacial effect contribute to the glorious oxidase-like activity, stability and reusability. It can catalytically oxidize the colorless substrate 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to a blue oxidation product (ox-TMB). As a result, a colorimetric technique with excellent selectivity and sensitivity for detecting ascorbic acid (AA) with naked eyes was established, in view of specific inhibitory effects towards oxidation of TMB. Under optimal detection conditions, this method exhibits a good linearity ranging from 0.1 to 160 μM with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.076 μM. For practical applications, Co@N-CNTs hybrid catalyst as a mimic oxidase was used for the determination of AA in human serum, which yielded satisfactory results. This work may serve as a new research thought to guide the design of high-performance nanozymes and establish a sensing platform for the detection of AA. In this work, we designed a Co@N-CNTs hybrid nanocomposite as an oxidase mimic for the colorimetric detection of ascorbic acid with the naked eye.![]()

Abstract
Ascorbic acid (AA) is an important diet-derived antioxidant to human body. Thus, efficient and accurate detection of AA is of considerable significance in food analysis. Herein, smartphone assisted colorimetric and fluorescent triple-channel signal sensor has been developed for AA monitoring based on oxidase-like CoOOH nanoflakes. CoOOH nanoflakes can efficiently catalyze the oxidation of p-phenylenediamine (p-PD) into reddish brown p-PDox. The carbon dots (C-dots) are further introduced, of which the fluorescence can be quenched by p-PDox. However, in the presence of AA, the CoOOH nanoflakes is reduced and thus collapsed. As a result, the oxidation of p-PD is restrained, and thus the fluorescence of C-dots keeps strong. Based on AA induced light color, low absorbance, and strong fluorescence, triple-channel signal sensor has been proposed for AA determination. The AA assay shows a dynamic response range from 0.5 to 10 μM with a detection limit of 0.09 μM. The method assay allows detection of AA in real samples such as fruit juices. Combination with portable smartphone, the developed sensor is potential for AA determination in resource-poor settings.

Abstract
A small, cheap, and low-power mesh-type piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer (MPUT) from a household USB humidifier has been developed as a sonochemiluminescence generator for the first time. The ultrasonication of an MPUT facilitates the generation of reactive oxygen species to trigger sonochemiluminescence. There is no light emission of luminol without sonication. In contrast, the luminescence becomes very intense by ultrasonication using the MPUT and can be readily observed by a smart phone, enabling the visual detection of luminol without adding any coreactants. Interestingly, ascorbic acid, a common chemiluminescence quencher in the literature, increases the sonochemiluminescence in this system. As a result, a sensitive sonochemiluminescence method has been developed for the visual detection of ascorbic acid with a linear range of 1-40 μM and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.35 μM. Moreover, the visual detection of superoxide dismutase has been achieved on the basis of its quenching effect, which has a linear range of 0.05-2.0 μg/mL and a LOD of 0.018 μg/mL. Because of its advantages of low cost, small size, and low-power consumption, the USB MPUT holds great potential in sonochemiluminescence (SCL) for the development of portable and disposable analysis devices in point-of-care testing and field analysis as well as chemical education.

Abstract
To achieve a rapid, sensitive, and economical method for the detection of ascorbic acid (AA) in the presence of Fe3+, a nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon dots (N,S-co-CDs) based fluorescence sensing system was developed. In this work, N,S-co-CDs were successfully synthesized via a one-step microwave-assisted method within 2.5 min using ammonium citrate and L-cysteine as precursors. The fluorescence of N,S-co-CDs was quenched (off ) by Fe3+ through a static-quenching mechanism. Subsequently, the fluorescence was recovered (on) after introducing AA into the quenched system, which was attributed to the reduction effect of AA for Fe3+. Therefore, a switch-on sensor (N,S-co-CDs/Fe3+ system) was developed for AA detection. Under optimal conditions, the limit of detection (LOD) of 2.31 μmol/L for AA was obtained over a linear range from 0 to 150 μmol/L. Furthermore, the proposed sensing method was successfully applied to detect AA in processed fruit juice with satisfactory results. The most important is that the sensor derived from a microwave-assisted method has simple and eco-friendly synthesis processes, is rapid, and has high detection efficiency. Therefore, such a switch-on sensor may be a promising candidate sensor for AA detection in processed fruit samples.

Abstract
A metal-organic gel (MOG) was synthesized that is composed of manganese(II) as the central ion and 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxylic acid as the ligand. The resulting MOG exhibits excellent activity for catalyzing the chemiluminescence (CL) of the luminol/hydrogen peroxide system. The CL system was characterized by CL spectra, UV-vis absorption spectra and by studying potential interferences by common radical scavengers. The CL reaction was exploited in a new scheme for the determination of hydrogen peroxide. CL intensity increases linearly in the 0.4 μM ~ 3 mM hydrogen peroxide concentration range, and the limit of detection (LOD) is 0.12 μM. The method was extended to an enzymatic assay for glucose by using glucose oxidase and by measurement of the enzymatically formed hydrogen peroxide. The assay works in the 0.2 μM ~ 3 mM glucose concentration range, and the LOD is 0.08 μM. Graphical abstract Schematic representation of the synthesized Mn-containing MOGs catalyzing luminol-hydrogen peroxide chemiluminescent reaction, which can be used to establish a new CL method for the detection of hydrogen peroxide and glucose.

Determination of ferric ion via its effect on the enhancement of the chemiluminescece of the permanganate-sulfite system by nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots. Mikrochim Acta 2018; 185:431. Abstract
Nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs) are shown to strongly enhance the integrated chemiluminescence (CL) of the permanganate-sulfite system. The mechanism of enhancement was investigated, and the catalytic effect of the NGQDs was proven. In contrast to other carbon-based nanomaterials, the enhancement by NGQDs is independent of particle size and surface. However, the pyridinic nitrogen on the surface of the NGQDs facilitates the transformation of dissolved oxygen into H2O2 and the generation of hydroxyl radicals. This induces the increase of CL intensity. However, in the presence of Fe3+, the nitrogen functions and phenol groups on the surface of the NGQDs will chelate it, and the CL signal is decreased as a result. This effect was used to design an assay for Fe3+ that has a wide response range (1 × 10-8 - 1 × 10-6 M) and a 4 nM detection limit. The method was successfully applied to the determination of Fe3+ in spiked real water samples. Graphical abstract Nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs) are demonstrated to strongly enhance the integrated chemiluminescence (CL) of the permanganate-sulfite system. The pyridinic N-atoms in NGQDs facilitate the transformation from dissolved oxygen into H2O2 and the generation of •OH radicals. This leads to the highly enhanced CL of the system. In the presence of Fe3+, which will be chelated by the nitrogen functions and phenol groups on the surface of the NGQDs, the CL signal is decreased.
