Triple para-substitution reactions of B(C6F5)3 and [(C6F5)3PF]+ with P(SiMe3)3

para-Substitution reactions on C6F5 rings of Lewis acids have been exploited to achieve triply substituted derivatives. The reaction of B(C6F5)3 with P(SiMe3)3 ultimately affords the Lewis acid B(C6F4P(SiMe3)2)31. This species binds Lewis bases affording the adducts LB(C6F4P(SiMe3)2)3 (L = MeCN 2, OPEt33, PMe34, PBu35) and reacts with LiMe to give the salt [Li][MeB(C6F4P(SiMe3)2)3]·3THF 6. It also reacts with H2O to give (L)B(C6F4PH2)3 (L = H2O 7, MeCN 8). In an analogous fashion, [(C6F5)3PF][B(C6F5)4] was converted to [FP(C6F4P(SiMe3)2)3] [B(C6F5)4] 9 and subsequently to [(MeO)P(C6F4PH2)3][B(C6F5)4] 10.

Fluorocarbonylation via palladium/phosphine synergistic catalysis

Despite the growing importance of fluorinated organic compounds in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials science, the introduction of fluorine into organic molecules is still a challenge, and no catalytic fluorocarbonylation of aryl/alkyl boron compounds has been reported to date. Herein, we present the development of palladium and phosphine synergistic redox catalysis of fluorocarbonylation of potassium aryl/alkyl trifluoroborate. Trifluoromethyl arylsulfonate (TFMS), which was used as a trifluoromethoxylation reagent, an easily handled and bench-scale reagent, has been employed as an efficient source of COF₂. The reaction operates under mild conditions with good to excellent yields and tolerates diverse complex scaffolds, which allows efficient late-stage fluorocarbonylation of marked small-molecule drugs. Mechanistically, the key intermediates of labile Brettphos-Pd(II)-OCF₃ complex and difluoro-Brettphos were synthesized and spectroscopically characterized, including X-ray crystallography. A detailed reaction mechanism involving the synergistic redox catalytic cycles Pd(II)/(0) and P(III)/(V) was proposed, and multifunction of phosphine ligand was identified based on ¹⁹F NMR, isotope tracing, synthetic, and computational studies.

Carbon-Phosphorus Coupling from C^N Cyclometalated AuIII Complexes

With the aim of exploiting new organometallic species for cross-coupling reactions, we report here on the AuIII -mediated Caryl -P bond formation occurring upon reaction of C^N cyclometalated AuIII complexes with phosphines. The [Au(C^N)Cl2 ] complex 1 featuring the bidentate 2-benzoylpyridine (CCO N) scaffold was found to react with PTA (1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane) under mild conditions, including in water, to afford the corresponding phosphonium 5 through C-P reductive elimination. A mechanism is proposed for the title reaction based on in situ 31 P{1 H} NMR and HR-ESI-MS analyses combined with DFT calculations. The C-P coupling has been generalized to other C^N cyclometalated AuIII complexes and other tertiary phosphines. Overall, this work provides new insights into the reactivity of cyclometalated AuIII compounds and establishes initial structure-activity relationships to develop AuIII -mediated C-P cross-coupling reactions.

vic-Diphosphination of Alkenes with Silylphosphine under Visible-Light-Promoted Photoredox Catalysis

An Ir(ppy)₃-catalyzed vic-diphosphination of styrenes with Me₃Si-PPh₂ and NFSI proceeds under blue LED irradiation to afford the corresponding bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane derivatives without any formation of hydrophosphination byproducts, which are inevitable and problematic under the previous Cu/NHC catalysis. Additionally, the visible-light-promoted photoredox catalysis enables the diphosphination of relatively challenging aliphatic alkenes and β-substituted styrene.
