Abstract
The JFH coupling constants in fluorinated amino alcohols were investigated through experimental and theoretical approaches. The experimental JFH couplings were only reproduced theoretically when explicit solvation through molecular dynamics (MD) simulations was conducted in DMSO as the solvent. The combination of MD conformation sampling and DFT NMR spin-spin coupling calculations for these compounds reveals the simultaneous presence of through-space (TS) and hydrogen bond (H-bond) assisted JFH coupling between fluorine and hydrogen of the NH group. Furthermore, MD simulations indicate that the hydrogen in the amino group participates in both an intermolecular bifurcated H-bond with DMSO and in transmitting the observed JFH coupling. The contribution of TS to the JFH coupling is due to the spatial proximity of the fluorine and the NH group, aided by a combination of the non-bonding transmission pathway and the hydrogen bonding pathway. The experimental JFH coupling observed for the molecules studied should be represented as 4TS/1hJFH coupling.

Abstract
Perfluoro-[n]prismanes ((C2F2)n, n = 3-8) and [n]asteranes ((C3F4)n, n = 3-5) exhibit a strong perfluoro cage effect that can stably encapsulate an additional electron inside the cage. The 2s-like distribution of solvated electron (esol-) not only changes the molecular structure but also affects the nuclear spin properties. In this work, we reveal how the esol- enhances and regulates indirect nuclear spin-spin coupling between two coupled F nuclei (JFF-coupling). Results show that esol- is mainly distributed in the central cavity, and a part of it penetrates into the C-shell and C-F bond regions due to the unique polyhedral C-shell structure. Such a 2s-like esol- creates a novel esol- based coupling mechanism, including the newly generated through-esol- (TSE) and esol--enhanced traditional through-bonds and through-space (esol--enhanced TB+TS) pathways, enhancing and regulating N(e)JFF-coupling, which crosses N bonds in the shortest TB pathway and is affected by esol-. The contribution of the TSE (JTSE) is positive and increases with the increase of the central angle between two coupled F nuclei (∠F⊗F), and the contribution of the esol--enhanced TB+TS (JTB+TS) is negative and |JTB+TS| decreases with the increase of N and straight linear distance between two coupled F nuclei (dFF). Interestingly, N(e)JFF exhibits a special dependence on N/dFF and ∠F⊗F due to the cooperation and competition between JTSE and JTB+TS. When ∠F⊗F < 70°, the esol--enhanced TB+TS can play a role; JTB+TS determines sign and magnitude of N(e)JFF. When ∠F⊗F > 70°, the TSE dominates, and JTSE determines sign and magnitude of N(e)JFF. This work not only further enriches information on the states, distributions, and properties of esol- but also provides insights into the nuclei spin properties in perfluorinated polyhedrons triggered by esol-.

Abstract
The NMR analysis of fluorine-containing molecules, increasingly widespread due to their importance in pharmaceuticals and biochemistry, poses significant challenges. Severe peak overlap in the proton spectrum often hinders the extraction of critical structural information in the form of heteronuclear scalar coupling constants, which are crucial for determining pharmaceutical properties and biological activity. Here, a new method, IPAP-FESTA, is reported that drastically simplifies measurements of the signs and magnitudes of proton-fluorine couplings. Its usefulness is demonstrated for the structural study of the steroidal drug fluticasone propionate extracted from a commercial formulation and for assessing solvent effects on the conformational equilibrium in a physically inseparable fluorohydrin mixture.

Abstract
The implementation of fast relativistic methods based on density functional theory, in conjunction with localized molecular orbital (LMO) based analysis, allows straightforward interpretations of NMR parameters in terms of contributions from core shells, lone pairs, and bonds, for compounds containing elements from across the periodic table. We present a conceptual review of a frequently used LMO analysis of NMR parameters calculated in the presence of spin-orbit interactions and other relativistic effects. An accompanying example focuses on the 15 N shielding in a heavy metal complex.

Abstract
Long-range proton-fluorine coupling constants (n JHF ) are helpful for the structure elucidation of fluorinated molecules. However, their magnitude and sign can change with the relative position of coupled nuclei and the presence of substituents. Here, trans-4-tert-butyl-2-fluorocyclohexanone was used as a model compound for the study of the transmission of 4 JHF . In this compound, the 4 JH6axF was measured to be +5.1 Hz, which is five times larger than the remaining 4 JHF in the same molecule (4 JH4F = +1.0 Hz and 4 JH6eqF = +1.0 Hz). Through a combination of experimental data, natural bond orbital (NBO) and natural J-coupling (NJC) analyses, we observed that stereoelectronic interactions involving the π system of the carbonyl group are involved in the transmission pathway for the 4 JH6axF . Interactions containing the π system as an electron acceptor (e.g., σC6H6ax → π*C═O and σCF → π*C═O ) increase the value of the 4 JH6axF , while the interaction of the π system as an electron donor (e.g., πC═O → σ*CF ) decreases it. Additionally, the carbonyl group was shown not to be part of the transmission pathway of the diequatorial 4 JH6eqF coupling in cis-4-tert-butyl-2-fluorocyclohexanone, revealing that there is a crucial symmetry requirement that must be fulfilled for the π system to influence the value of the 4 JHF in these systems.

Abstract
Four lithium phosphine borohydride compounds featuring phenyl and naphthyl linkers have been synthesized. In-depth NMR analysis affords evidence for non-bonded through space P-B coupling. Reactivity towards CO2 leads to LiH transfer and to the quantitative formation of the corresponding ambiphilic phosphine-borane products.

Abstract
State-of-the-art nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) selective experiments are capable of directly analyzing crude reaction mixtures. A new experiment named HD-HAPPY-FESTA yields ultrahigh-resolution total correlation subspectra, which are suitable for sign-sensitive determination of heteronuclear couplings, as demonstrated here by measuring the sign and magnitude for proton-fluorine couplings (JHF) from major and minor isomer products of a two-step reaction without any purification. Proton-fluorine couplings ranging from 51.5 to -2.6 Hz could be measured using HD-HAPPY-FESTA, with the smallest measured magnitude of 0.8 Hz. Experimental JHF values were used to identify the two fluoroketone intermediates and the four fluoroalcohol products. Results were rationalized and compared with the density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Experimental data were further compared with the couplings reported in the literature, where pure samples were analyzed.

Abstract
Weak hydrogen bonds are increasingly hypothesized to play key roles in a wide range of chemistry from catalysis to gelation to polymer structure. Here, 15N/13C spin-echo magic-angle spinning (MAS) solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments are applied to "view" intermolecular CH···N hydrogen bonding in two selectively labeled organic compounds, 4-[15N] cyano-4'-[13C2] ethynylbiphenyl (1) and [15N3,13C6]-2,4,6-triethynyl-1,3,5-triazine (2). The synthesis of 2-15N3,13C6 is reported here for the first time via a multistep procedure, where the key element is the reaction of [15N3]-2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine (5) with [13C2]-[(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]zinc chloride (8) to afford its immediate precursor [15N3,13C6]-2,4,6-tris[(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]-1,3,5-triazine (9). Experimentally determined hydrogen-bond-mediated 2hJCN couplings (4.7 ± 0.4 Hz (1) and 4.1 ± 0.3 Hz (2)) are compared with density functional theory (DFT) gauge-including projector augmented wave (GIPAW) calculations, whereby species-independent coupling values 2hKCN (29.0 × 1019 kg m-2 s-2 A-2 (1) and 27.9 × 1019 kg m-2 s-2 A-2 (2)) quantitatively demonstrate the J couplings for these "weak" CH···N hydrogen bonds to be of a similar magnitude to those for conventionally observed NH···O hydrogen-bonding interactions in uracil (2hKNO: 28.1 and 36.8 × 1019 kg m-2 s-2 A-2). Moreover, the GIPAW calculations show a clear correlation between increasing 2hJCN (and 3hJCN) coupling and reducing C(H)···N and H···N hydrogen-bonding distances, with the Fermi contact term accounting for at least 98% of the isotropic 2hJCN coupling.

Abstract
The active species of the Ishikawa´s reagent [N,N-diethyl-(1,1,2,3,3,3-hexafluoropropyl)amine] is a fluorinating hexafluoropropylamine used to convert alcohols into alkyl fluorides. On the other hand, it is also an example of model compound useful to probe conformational preferences using spectroscopic information from diastereotopic fluorines. Moreover, the possibility of experiencing both the generalized anomeric and gauche effects makes the Ishikawa´s reagent an ideal choice to study the governing stereoelectronic interactions of the conformational equilibrium of organofluorine compounds. The conformational equilibrium of the Ishikawa´s reagent was analyzed using NMR 3JH,F coupling constant data in different solvents, since the orientation of the diastereotopic fluorines relative to H-2 and F-2 changes with the medium. In nonpolar cyclohexane solvent, the preferred conformation experiences a weaker steric and electrostatic repulsion. The conformational behavior changes in the more polar pyridine solution, where the double fluorine gauche effect takes place, since F-2 is preferably gauche to both diastereotopic fluorines. An analysis of the rotation around the N–C(F2) bond indicates the manifestation of anomeric interactions (nN → σ*C–F), which can be demonstrated by means of 19F chemical shifts. The results were rationalized with the aid of theoretical calculations and natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, allowing for the evaluation of competing steric, electrostatic and hyperconjugative interactions.

Abstract
We have investigated, using two-component relativistic density functional theory (DFT) at ZORA-SO-BP86 and ZORA-SO-PBE0 level, the occurrence of relativistic effects on the 1 H, 13 C, and 15 N NMR chemical shifts of 1-methylpyridinium halides [MP][X] and 1-butyl-3-methylpyridinium trihalides [BMP][X3 ] ionic liquids (ILs) (X=Cl, Br, I) as a result of a non-covalent interaction with the heavy anions. Our results indicate a sizeable deshielding effect in ion pairs when the anion is I- and I3 - . A smaller, though nonzero, effect is observed also with bromine while chlorine based anions do not produce an appreciable relativistic shift. The chemical shift of the carbon atoms of the aromatic ring shows an inverse halogen dependence that has been rationalized based on the little C-2s orbital contribution to the σ-type interaction between the cation and anion. This is the first detailed account and systematic theoretical investigation of a relativistic heavy atom effect on the NMR chemical shifts of light atoms in the absence of covalent bonds. Our work paves the way and suggests the direction for an experimental investigation of such elusive signatures of ion pairing in ILs.

Abstract
Solvated electrons have been found to exist in various media which also exhibit more intriguing properties such as superconductivity, nonlinear optical response, and so on. However, how they affect the nuclear spin properties has not been proven. In this work, we present the first detailed study on solvated-electron-triggered indirect nuclear spin-spin J-coupling using density functional theory calculations. Taking 19F as a probe, we verify the presence of unusual J couplings between two distant F atoms in HF-containing anionic clusters. These couplings occur "through solvated electron", rather than through conventional covalent bonds or space. Solvated electron can serve as an additional channel to efficiently realize long-range J-coupling between far separated nuclei because of its dispersivity and Rydberg character. The coupling magnitude strongly depends on the unique distribution of solvated electron and its second-order interaction with solvating HF units. This work provides novel insights into the mediating roles of electrons, possibly opening up potential applications based on weakly bound electrons.
