Abstract
Given the critical importance of novel ligand development for transition-metal (TM) catalysis, as well as the resurgence of the field of organosilicon chemistry and silyl ligands, to summarize the topic of X-type silyl ligands for TM catalysis is highly attractive and timely. This review particularly emphasizes the unique σ-donating characteristics and trans-effects of silyl ligands, highlighting their crucial roles in enhancing the reactivity and selectivity of various catalytic reactions, including small molecule activation, Kumada cross-coupling, hydrofunctionalization, C-H functionalization, and dehydrogenative Si-O coupling reactions. Additionally, future developments in this field are also provided, which would inspire new insights and applications in catalytic synthetic chemistry.

Abstract
We report herein the synthesis and characterization of nickel complexes supported by tridentate and bidentate phosphino(silyl) ancillary ligands, along with the successful application of these complexes as precatalysts for the hydroboration of terminal and internal alkenes using pinacolborane (HBPin). These reactions proceeded with low nickel loadings of 2.5-5 mol % in the absence of co-solvent, and in some cases at room temperature. Isomerization to afford exclusively the terminal hydroboration product was obtained across a range of internal alkenes, including tri- and tetra-substituted examples. This reactivity is unprecedented for nickel and offers a powerful means of achieving functionalization at a C-H position remote from the C=C double bond. Nickel-catalyzed deuteroboration experiments using DBPin support a mechanism involving 1,2-insertion of the alkene and subsequent chain-walking, which results in isotopic scrambling.

Abstract
The formation of dimer [(μ-Cl)Rh-(κ3(P,Si,Si)PhP(o-C6H4CH2SiiPr2)(o-C6H4CH2SiiPrnPr))]2 (Rh-3) with an n-propyl group on one of the silicon atoms as a minor product was affected by the reaction of [RhCl(COD)]2 with proligand PhP(o-C6H4CH2SiHiPr2)2, L1. The major product of the reaction was monomeric 14-electron Rh(III) complex [ClRh(κ3(P,Si,Si)PhP(o-C6H4CH2SiiPr2)2)] (Rh-1). Computations revealed that the monomer-dimer equilibrium is shifted toward the monomer with four isopropyl substituents on the two Si atoms of the ligand as in Rh-1; conversely, the dimer is favored with only one n-propyl as in Rh-3, and with less bulky alkyl substituents such as in [ClRh(κ3(P,Si,Si)PhP(o-C6H4CH2SiMe2)2]2 (Rh-2). Computations on the mechanism of formation of Rh-3 directly from [RhCl(COD)]2 are in agreement with the experimental findings and it is found to be less energetic than if stemming from Rh-1. Additionally, a Si-O-Si complex, [μ-Cl-Rh{κ3(P,Si,C)PPh(o-C6H4CH2SiiPrO SiiPr2CH-o-C6H4)}]2, Rh-4, is generated from the reaction of Rh-1 with adventitious water as a result of intramolecular C-H activation.

Abstract
Syntheses of Rh complexes of the phosphine-amido-silane SiNP ligand are reported. The reaction of the parent (SiNP)H ligand (4) with 0.5 equiv. [(COE)RhCl]2 (COE = cis-cyclooctene) in the presence of NaN(SiME3)2 resulted in the formation of (SiNP)Rh(COE) (5). Compound 5 was converted to a series of (SiNP)Rh(P(OR)3) complexes 6-10 (R = Ph, iPr, nBu, Et, or Me) by treatment with the corresponding phosphite. NMR and XRD structural data, as well as the DFT computational analysis indicate that compounds 5-10 are divided into two structural Types (A and B), differing in the nature of the interaction of the Si-H bond of the SiNP ligand with Rh.

Abstract
A powerful approach to cooperative group-transfer catalysis is demonstrated using the Co=Si bond of a cobalt silylene to provide two distinct sites for substrate activation. The orthogonal selectivity of the Co and Si centers enables efficient nitrene-group transfer to carbon monoxide by avoiding poisoning that would result from substrates competing for a single reactive site.

Abstract
Electron-rich late metals and electropositive main-group elements (metals and metalloids) can be combined to provide an ambiphilic façade for exploring metal-ligand cooperation, yet the instability of the metal/main-group bond frequently limits the study and application of such units. Incorporating main-group donors into pincer frameworks, where they are stabilized and held in proximity to the transition-metal partner, can allow discovery of new modes of reactivity and incorporation into catalytic processes. This Perspective summarizes common modes of cooperativity that have been demonstrated for pincer frameworks featuring metal/main-group bonds, highlighting similarities among boron, aluminium, and silicon donors and identifying directions for further development.

Abstract
The Ir-Si bond distances reported for Ir-(fac-κ3-NSiNOPy) and Ir-(fac-κ3-NSiN4MeOPy) species (NSiNOPy = bis(pyridine-2-yloxy)methylsilyl and NSiN4MeOPy = bis(4-methyl-pyridine-2-yloxy)methylsily) are in the range of 2.220-2.235 Å. These values are in the lowest limit of the Ir-Si bond distances found in the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD). To understand the origin of such remarkable shortening, a computational study of the bonding situation of representative examples of Ir-(fac-κ3-NSiN) species has been carried out. It is found that the Ir-Si bond can be described as an electron-sharing (i.e. covalent) bond. Despite that, this bond is highly polarized and as a result, the contribution of the electrostatic attractions to the bonding is rather significant. Indeed, there exists a linear relationship (R2 = 0.97) between the Ir-Si bond distance and the extent of the computed electrostatic interactions, which indicates that the ionic contribution to the bonding is mainly responsible for the observed Ir-Si bond shortening.

Abstract
A metal/ligand cooperative approach to the reduction of small molecules by metal silylene complexes (R2 Si=M) is demonstrated, whereby silicon activates the incoming substrate and mediates net two-electron transformations by one-electron redox processes at two metal centers. An appropriately tuned cationic pincer cobalt(I) complex, featuring a central silylene donor, reacts with CO2 to afford a bimetallic siloxane, featuring two CoII centers, with liberation of CO; reaction of the silylene complex with ethylene yields a similar bimetallic product with an ethylene bridge. Experimental and computational studies suggest a plausible mechanism proceeding by [2+2] cycloaddition to the silylene complex, which is quite sensitive to the steric environment. The CoII /CoII products are reactive to oxidation and reduction. Taken together, these findings demonstrate a strategy for metal/ligand cooperative small-molecule activation that is well-suited to 3d metals.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of base-stabilized and base-free pincer-type bis(phosphine)/silylene [P2Si]Ru complexes are reported. The base-free complex readily reduces CO2 and CS2via silylene-assisted hydride transfer, affording structurally distinct products with silicon-to-ruthenium formate and dithioformate bridges.

Abstract
The first PGeP pincer-type germylene has been synthesized. Its divalent Ge atom easily inserts into M–M and M–Cl bonds, giving rise to products that contain a PGeP bridging germylene or a PGeP pincer chlorogermyl ligand.
