Abstract
Here, we report the synthesis of a truncated cone-shaped triangular porphyrinic macrocycle, P3 L3 , via a single step imine condensation of a cis-diaminophenylporphyrin and a bent dialdehyde-based linker as building units. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the truncated cone-shaped P3 L3 molecules are stacked on top of each other by π⋯π and CH⋯π interactions, to form 1.7 nm wide hollow columns in the solid state. The formation of the triangular macrocycle is corroborated by quantum chemical calculations. The permanent porosity of the P3 L3 crystals is demonstrated by several gas sorption experiments and powder X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract
Reaction of the [2 + 2] Schiff-base macrocycles {[2-(OH)-5-(R)-C6H2-1,3-(CH)2][CH2CH2(2-C6H4N)2]}2 (R = Me, L1H2; tBu, L2H2) with FeBr2 afforded the complexes [FeBr(L1H2)]2[(FeBr3)2O]·2MeCN (1·2MeCN), [FeBr(L2H2)][X] (X = 0.5(FeBr3)2O, 2·0.5MeCN, X = Br, 3·5.5MeCN), respectively. Reaction of L2H2 with [KFe(OtBu)3(THF)] (formed in situ from FeBr2 and KOtBu), following work-up, led to the isolation of the complex [Fe(L2)(L2H)]·3MeCN (4·3MeCN), whilst with [CuBr2] afforded [CuBr(L2H2)][CuBr2]·2MeCN (5·2MeCN). Attempts to form mixed Co/Ti species by reaction of [CoBrL2][CoBr3(NCMe)] with TiCl4 resulted in [L2H4][CoBr4]·2MeCN (6·2MeCN). Use of the related oxy-bridged Schiff-base macrocycles {[2-(OH)-5-(R)-C6H2-1,3-(CH)2][O(2-C6H4N)2]}2 (R = Me, L3H2; tBu, L4H2) with CoBr2 led to the isolation of the complexes [(CoBr)2(L3)]·2C3H6O (7·2C3H6O), [Co(NCMe)2(L4H2)][CoBr4]·5MeCN (8·5MeCN), [Co(NCMe)6][CoBr3(MeCN)]2·2MeCN (9·2MeCN). For comparative structural/polymerisation studies, the complexes {CoBr(NCMe)L5}2·2MeCN (10·2MeCN) and [Co(NCMe)2L5]2[CoBr3(NCMe)]2 (11), [FeBr(NCMe)L5]2·2MeCN (12·2MeCN) where L5H = 2,6-(CHO)2-4-tBu-C6H2OH, as well as the chelate-free salt [Fe(NCMe)6][FeBr3OFeBr3] (13) have been isolated and structurally characterized. The ability of these complexes to act as catalysts for the ring opening polymerisation (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) and δ-valerolactone (δ-VL) was investigated, as well as co-polymerisation of ε-CL with rac-lactide (r-LA) and vice versa.

Abstract
A series of Co(ii), Zn(ii), and Cd(ii) complexes supported by 1-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-N-((3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methyl)-N-(furan-2-ylmethyl)methanamine (LA) and N,N-bis((3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methyl)-4-isopropylaniline (LB) were synthesized. The direct chelation of CoCl2·6H2O, ZnCl2, and CdBr2·4H2O by the ligands produced [LnMX2] (Ln = LA or LB; M = Zn or Co, with X = Cl; M = Cd, with X = Br) complexes in high yields. Structural studies revealed that [LBCoCl2] and [LBZnCl2] adopted distorted tetrahedral geometries, as LB coordinated the metal centers in a bidentate fashion, while LA coordinated the metal centers in a tridentate fashion through the nitrogen atoms of the pyrazole and amine moieties, so that [LACoCl2] and [LAZnCl2] exhibited trigonal bipyramidal geometries and [LACdBr2] a square pyramidal geometry. [LBCdBr2] has two Cd-containing structures per unit cell, whereby one Cd center adopted a distorted tetrahedral geometry and the other exhibited square bipyramidal geometry. The in situ-generated alkyl derivatives of the synthesized complexes were assessed in the ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide. Heterotactic polylactides (PLAs) were furnished with all complexes. The [LBZnCl2]/MeLi system produced PLA with a superior heterotactic bias (Pr up to 0.94) at −25 °C. PLAs with wide-ranging polydispersity indices (1.16–2.23) and low molecular weights were produced in all cases, irrespective of the specific M(II) center and ancillary ligand utilized. Co(ii), Zn(ii), and Cd(ii) complexes supported by bis-pyrazolyl ligands were applied to the ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide to produce heterotactic polylactides (PLAs) with superior heterotactic bias i.e. Pr up to 0.94 at −25 °C.![]()

Abstract
Homo-dinuclear Co and Zn complexes derived from the macrocycle LH2, {[2-(OH)-5-(R)-C6H2-1,3-(CH)2][CH2CH2(2-C6H4N)2]}2 (R = Me, tBu), revealed near inactivity for the ring opening polymerization (ROP) of the cyclic esters δ-valerolactone (δ-VL) and ε-caprolactone (ε-CL). By contrast, the hetero-bimetallic complexes [LCo(NCMe)(μ-Br)ZnBr]·nMeCN (n = 3 or 3.25) were found to be efficient catalysts for the ROP of ε-CL and δ-VL.

Abstract
It remains a challenging task to synthesize well-defined multi-block copolymers through the controlled/living ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactones without transesterification, the most common side reaction occurring during copolymerization. A series of Al-based complexes with different sidearms were prepared for living ROP of lactones such as ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) and δ-valerolactone (δ-VL) in the presence of BnOH at room temperature (RT), affording medium to high molecular weight (MW) linear polyesters with Mw up to 303 kg mol-1 and narrow molecular weight distributions (MWD, Đ as low as 1.12). The coordination-insertion polymerization mechanism was proposed based on the combination of the detailed experimental data and polymerization kinetics. It should be noted that the sidearm plays a significant important role in the reactivity of these Al-based catalyst systems. More specifically, the Al2 system with a butyl substituent on the sidearm exhibited the highest polymerization activity and the Al5 system with the bulkiest sidearm showed the lowest one among the investigated catalysts. Moreover, the Al4 system with a pyridine group on the sidearm could effectively inhibit transesterification and maintain a well-defined block copolymer structure even after heating at 50 °C for 10 h, which could also be confirmed by chain-end analyses of the produced polymers with the MALDI-TOF MS measurement.
