Abstract
A novel Cu(I) cluster compound has been synthesized by reacting CuI with the 2,2'-dithiobis(5-nitropyridine) ligand under solvothermal conditions. During the reaction, the original ligand breaks into the 5-nitropyridine-2-thiolate moiety, which acts as the coordinating ligand with both N- and S-sites, leading to a distorted octahedral Cu6S6 cluster. The structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and FT-IR analysis, and the photophysical properties have been determined in the solid state by means of steady-state and time-resolved optical techniques. The cluster presents a near-infrared emission showing an unusual temperature dependence: when passing from 77 to 298 K, a blue-shift of the emission band is observed, associated with a decrease in its intensity. Time-dependent-density functional theory calculations suggest that the observed behavior can be ascribed to a complex interplay of excited states, basically in the triplet manifold.

Abstract
A hexagonal prismatic Cu6S6 cluster exhibits excellent near-infrared fluorescence properties due to its short Cu-Cu bonds, however, the construction of Cu6S6 cluster-based compounds with extended structures is still a challenge. Here, four new Cu6S6 cluster-based coordination compounds, formulated as Cu3(pymt)3 (1), {(CuCN)2[Cu3(mpymt)3]}n (2), {(CuSCN)[Cu3(mpymt)3]}n (3) and {(CuCN)2[Cu3(dmpymt)3]·CH3CN}n (4) (Hpymt = pyrimidine-2-thiolate, Hmpymt = 4-methyl-pyrimidine-2-thione and Hdmpymt = 4,6-dimethylpyrimidine-2-thione), have been synthesized through the reactions of mercaptopyrimidine derivatives and CuCN or CuSCN under solvo-thermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermal gravimetric analysis. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that compound 1 is a zero-dimensional Cu6(pymt)6 molecule containing a distorted pseudo-hexagonal prismatic Cu6S6 core. Compounds 2 and 4 with isomorphic frameworks but different organic linkers show a rare three-dimensional framework with nor topology constructed from Cu6(mpymt)6 units and one-dimensional chiral [Cu(CN)]n chains; compared with compound 2, a more hydrophobic one-dimensional channel in compound 4 is observed due to the increase of the methyl groups on the pyrimidine ligand, in which acetonitrile molecules are filled in the channels of compound 4. Compound 3 shows a rare two-dimensional layer constructed from Cu6(mpymt)6 units and one-dimensional puckered (CuSCN)n chains. For the first time, Cu6S6 clusters are connected to one-dimensional inorganic CuCN (or CuSCN) chains through mercaptopyrimidine derivatives to obtain extended arrays in compounds 2-4. The crystals of compounds 1-4 in the solid state all show apparent red light emission. Compound 4 shows sensitive luminescence quenching response to nitrobenzene (NB), and the corresponding quenching constant (Ksv) and detection limit are 2.06 × 103 M-1 and 9.27 ppm, respectively. This study provides a new strategy to construct Cu6S6 cluster-based coordination polymers that have great potential in various applications such as luminescence sensing.

Abstract
Six novel copper(I) cluster-based coordination polymers (CPs) [Cu9(pzt)7Cl2]n (1), [Cu2(pzt)Cl]n (2), [Cu4(pzt)3Br]n (3), [Cu(pzt)]n (4), [Cu4(pzt)3I]n (5), and [Cu7(pzt)6I]n (6) were solvothermally synthesized using Hpzt (Hpzt = pyrazine-2-thiol) ligand and well-characterized by elemental analysis, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD). Six CPs exhibit either 2D (4 and 6) or 3D (1-3, and 5) network based on diverse multinuclear {CuxSy} clusters. The structural evolutions of 1-6 are greatly influenced by types of metal halides and the ligand-to-metal molar ratio used in the reaction. Among them, compound 1 displays interesting temperature-dependent photoluminescence arising from triplet cluster-centered (3CC) excited state from the cluster metal core. Compounds 1-6 also exhibit photocurrent responses upon visible-light illumination (λ = 420 nm) in the order 6 > 5 > 3 > 1 > 4 > 2. This work not only shows the structural diversity of {CuxSy} clusters-based CPs but also provides an interesting insight into structural modulation using crystal engineering concept.

Abstract
Three new coordination polymers (CPs), {[Pb(tmdb)](H2O)} n (1), {[Zn(tmdb)(bimb)0.5]} n (2) and {[Zn3(tmdb)3(bpmb)1.5](H2O)6} n (3) (H2tmdb = 4,4'-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methylene-bis(benzonic acid), where bpmb = 1,4-bis(pyridin-4-ylmethoxy)benzene and bimb = 1,4-bis(imidazoly-1-yl)benzene), have been solvothermally or hydrothermally synthesized. Compound 1 is a 2D network with the point symbol (4·6·8)(4·62) and compound 2 is a 4-fold interpenetrating 3D network with spiral chains. The topological type of 2 is dmc (topos&RCSR.ttd) with the point symbol (4·82)(4·85). Compound 3 is a 3-fold interpenetrating 3D network with the point symbol (63)2(8·65)2(10·62)(8·10·64). The electrochemiluminescence (ECL) behaviors of 2 and 3 were studied. The applications of CP 2 and 3 in detecting ions were explored, and the results show that they can be used as fluorescent probes to selectively detect and identify Fe3+ ions in water. In addition, the applications of CP 2 and 3 in the adsorption and separation of dyes were researched. Furthermore, the gas adsorption of 3 was studied.

Abstract
The hexanuclear thioguanidine mixed-valent copper complex cation [Cu6 (NGuaS)6 ]+2 (NGuaS = o-SC6 H4 NC(NMe2 )2 ) and its oxidized/reduced states are theoretically analyzed by means of density functional theory (DFT) (TPSSh + D3BJ/def2-TZV (p)). A detailed bonding analysis using overlap populations is performed. We find that a delocalized Cu-based ring orbital serves as an acceptor for donated S p electrons. The formed fully delocalized orbitals give rise to a confined electron cloud within the Cu6 S6 cage which becomes larger on reduction. The resulting strong electrostatic repulsion might prevent the fully reduced state. Experimental UV/Vis spectra are explained using time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) and analyzed with a natural transition orbital analysis. The spectra are dominated by MLCTs within the Cu6 S6 core over a wide range but LMCTs are also found. The experimental redshift of the reduced low energy absorption band can be explained by the clustering of the frontier orbitals. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
