Abstract
Bis-indole alkaloids from marine sponges are an intriguing class of natural products with a variety of activities. However, only a preliminary biological study of tulongicin A (5), a related previously isolated marine tris-indole alkaloid, has been conducted. In this study, we accomplished the first asymmetric total synthesis of 5 via the construction of an imidazoline-linked bis-indolylmethane skeleton using a Friedel-Crafts-type reaction. Our synthesis enabled a detailed study of the antibacterial profile of 5. Compound 5 displayed bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) strains.

Abstract
:
An unprecedented protocol for the efficient and highly chemoselective alkylation of unprotected anilines with deactivated CF3-indole-3-carbinols promoted by In(OTf)3 has been developed. A series of diversified trifluoromethylated (indolyl)phenylmethanes were produced featuring the C-alkylation in moderate to high chemical yields and with high regioselectivities.

Abstract
A novel, versatile approach for the synthesis of unsymmetrical 3,3'-diindolylmethanes (DIMs) with a quaternary carbon center has been developed via iodine-catalyzed coupling of trifluoromethyl(indolyl)phenylmethanols with indoles. In contrast to previously reported methods, the new procedure is characterized by chemoselectivity, mild conditions, high yields, and scalability to obtain gram amounts for biological studies. Selected compounds were found to display affinity for cannabinoid receptors, which are promising drug targets for the treatment of inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract
A new, mild and efficient protocol for the synthesis of trifluoromethyl(indolyl)phenylmethanols by the reaction of indoles with a variety of aromatic fluoromethyl ketones in the presence of K2CO3 (15 mol %) and n-Bu4PBr (15 mol %) in water. The desired products were obtained in good to excellent yields without requiring a column chromatographic purification. The reusability of the catalytic system and large-scale synthesis of indolyl(phenyl)methanols, which would further transform into biological active indole-derived compounds, are further advantages of this protocol.

Abstract
A Brønsted acid catalyzed, operationally simple, scalable route to several functionalized α-(3-indolyl) ketones has been developed and the long-standing regioisomeric issue has been eliminated by choosing appropriate carbonyls. A readily available and cheap bottle reagent was used as the catalyst. This protocol was also applicable to the synthesis of densely functionalized α-(3-pyrrolyl) ketones. A detailed mechanistic study confirmed the involvement of enolether as a reaction intermediate. Several postsynthetic modifications along with easy access to β-carboline, tryptamines, tryptophols, and spiro-indolenine proclaim the synthetic utility of this powerful building block. On the basis of this concept, functionalized carbazoles were constructed by a cascade annulation strategy.

Abstract
An unprecedented Ga(OTf)3-catalyzed, temperature-controlled regiodivergent alkylation of 2-substituted indoles with trifluoromethylated 3-indolylmethanols is described that provides structurally diverse unsymmetrical 3,3'- and 3,6'-bis(indolyl)methanes with a CF3-containing quaternary carbon center in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. In addition, this present protocol could be successfully extended to the synthesis of difluoromethylated 3,3'- and 3,6'-bis(indolyl)methanes with excellent efficiency.

Abstract
Zn(OTf)2-catalyzed synthesis of 3,3'-bisindolyl acetamides from α-keto amides is developed. Both aromatic α-keto amides substituted with electron-donating as well as -withdrawing groups and aliphatic α-keto amides are well tolerated to provide symmetrical bisindoles in moderate to excellent yields. The chemoselective bisindolylation of the keto group of α-keto amides in the presence of a simple keto functionality is successfully achieved in good yields. The transformation is further extended to the synthesis of challenging unsymmetrical bisindoles by treating indolyl α-hydroxy amides with substituted indoles. The unsymmetrical bisindoles are isolated in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
2-Amino-4,5-dihydro-3-furancarbonitriles (ADFCs) have attracted much attention due to
their utility as valuable synthetic intermediates for the preparation of a series of acyclic and cyclic organic
compounds. On the other hand, indoles substituted with furans are highly interesting compounds
displaying a wide range of biological and pharmaceutical activities. However, to the best of our knowledge,
indole substituted 2-amino-4,5-dihydro-3-furancarbonitriles have not been previously reported. A
new and efficient synthesis of indole substituted 2-amino-4,5-dihydro-3-furancarbonitriles has been
developed in two steps using water as a solvent. The first step of the sequence involves threecomponent
reaction of phenylglyoxals, indoles and malononitrile under aqueous and catalyst-free conditions
for the synthesis of indole substituted β,β-dicyanoketones. Reduction of the obtained β,β-
dicyanoketones with sodium borohydride in water at room temperature afforded the indole substituted
2-amino-4,5-dihydro-3-furancarbonitriles in good yields. Several substituted phenylglyooxals were reacted
smoothly with indole or 2-methylindole and malononitrile to give the corresponding indole substituted
β,β-dicyanoketones in good yields. Treatment of the obtained β,β-dicyanoketones with sodium
borohydride in water furnished exclusively the indole substituted 2-amino-4,5-dihydro-3-
furancarbonitriles in good yields. We have developed an efficient straightforward access to indole substituted
β,β-dicyanoketones by one-pot three-component reaction of phenylglyoxals, indoles and
malononitrile. The synthetic utility of obtained indole substituted β,β-dicyanoketones has been outlined
by the preparation of indole substituted 2-amino-4,5-dihydro-3-furancarbonitriles. The advantage of
catalyst-free, atom-economical and environmental benignity render it promising methods for preparation
of indole substituted 2-amino-4,5-dihydro-3-furancarbonitriles.

Abstract
Herein, we disclose the first report on iodo-cycloisomerization of 1-(indol-3-yl)-1-arylbut-3-yn-2-ols to form 3-iodocarbazoles. The synthesis proceeds through a cascade 5-endo-spirocyclization, followed by selective 1,2-alkyl migration. This method governs the green synthesis principles such as open-flask reaction, AcOEt as the solvent, rt reaction with short time, use of iodine, and broad substrate scope with atom and step economy.
