A sextuple-decker heteroleptic phthalocyanine heterometallic samarium-cadmium complex with crystal structure and nonlinear optical properties in solution and gel glass

A sextuple-decker heteroleptic phthalocyanine heterometallic compound (1) with a subunit arrangement of {(Pc)Sm(Pc)Cd(Pc*)Cd(Pc*)Cd(Pc)Sm(Pc)} has been prepared and analyzed using various spectroscopic instruments, in which four unsubstituted phthalocyanine anions (Pc) and two substituted analogues (Pc*) with n-pentoxyl substituents at eight peripheral positions are connected through the complexation of two Sm(III) and three Cd(II) ions. In particular, its sextuple-decker structure has been disclosed by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The solution and gel glass forms of this compound display third-order nonlinear optical properties due to the intrinsic conjugated nature over the sextuple-decker sandwich complex.

Recent Progress in Optically-Active Phthalocyanines and Their Related Azamacrocycles

Optically-active phthalocyanines (Pcs) and related macrocycles reported in the 2010-2020 period are introduced in this review. They are grouped into several categories: (1) chiral binaphthyl-containing Pcs, (2) optically active alkyl chain-containing Pcs, (3) chiral axial ligand- coordinated or -linked Pcs, (4) chiral subphthalocyanines (SubPcs), and (5) related azamacrocycles. For each compound, the structure and important characteristics are summarized.

Heteroleptic chiral bis(phthalocyaninato) terbium double-decker single-ion magnets

Chiral binaphthyl and dibutylamino were incorporated onto the periphery of the bis(phthalocyaninato) terbium SIM, confirming the effectiveness of tuning the double-decker SIM peroperties thorugh tuning the molecular magnetic anisotropy.

Mixed Phthalocyanine-Porphyrin Fused Conjugated Pentameric Nanoarrays

The largest phthalocyanine-porphyrin-fused pentameric molecular arrays have been synthesized and spectroscopically characterized. The saddled molecular conformation revealed for the pentamer by DFT-D3 calculation in combination with the bulky peripheral substituents precludes effective face-to-face π-π intermolecular interaction. As a consequence, intermolecular C-H⋅⋅⋅π interactions together with the ubiquitous dispersion force arrays help to self-assemble the representative metal-free pentameric molecules into the three-dimensional supramolecular structures with nanorod morphology in CHCl₃ and n-butanol. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) disclose the gradually increased long range of molecular ordering in the nanorods along with the increase in the substrate temperature from 30, 40, 50, to 60 °C. This in turn results in an increase in the semiconductivity of the single nanorod in the same order from 9.4×10^-9 to 3.8×10^-8 , 7.6×10^-7 , and 6.3×10^-5  S m^-1 .
