Abstract
Triflic anhydride and 2-chloropyridine-comediated tandem activation, intramolecular aromatic electrophilic addition, and 1,2-sulfonyl shift via spirocyclic intermediates of sulfonium α-acyl sulfonylmethylides realize the efficient synthesis of 2-alkyl/arylthiobenzo[b]thiophene 1,1-dioxides. The deactivated sulfonyl group determines the site-selectivity of the electrophilic addition via the ipso-attack, while the following S-migration controls the regioselectivity. Some of 2-methylthiobenzo[b]thiophene 1,1-dioxides show fluorescence properties in the solid state and in their solutions.

Abstract
A novel oxidative cross-coupling of benzo[b]thiophene 1,1-dioxides with arylboronic acids was reported. The efficient reaction occurred at the C2-position via C-H activation, followed by Pd(II)-catalyzed arylation. Furthermore, a series of C2-arylated products with significant photoluminescence properties have been synthesized and characterized, which illustrates the potential applications of our method in the aggregation-induced emission field.

Abstract
Hydrosulfonylation of alkenes with readily available aromatic iodides via a SO2-insetion strategy is presented. The combination of non-noble Ni catalysis with (iPr)3SiH as the final reductant enables the efficient formation of aryl and heteroaryl sulfinate intermediates, which undergo Michael-type additions to electron-deficient alkenes for initiating the hydrosulfonylation process. Moreover, the superiority of this protocol is demonstrated by broad substrate scope and good functional group compatibility.

Abstract
Simple access to aryl sulfinates from aryl iodides and bromides is reported using an inexpensive Ni-electrocatalytic protocol. The reaction exhibits a broad scope, uses stock solution of simple SO2 as sulfur source, and can be scaled up in batch and recycle flow settings. The limitations of this reaction are clearly shown and put into context by benchmarking with state-of-the-art Pd-based methods.

Abstract
We report a redox-neutral Ni(II)-catalyzed addition of (hetero)aryl boroxines to N-sulfinyltritylamine (TrNSO). The reactions use a catalyst generated from the combination of commercial, air-stable NiCl2·(glyme) and a commercially available bipyridine ligand, and deliver sulfinamide products. The scope of the reaction is established using a sulfonimidamide synthesis, in which the initially formed sulfinamides undergo oxidative chlorination with the inexpensive and safe chlorinating agent, trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA), to produce sulfonimidoyl chlorides as key intermediates. These are combined in situ with a range of amines to deliver sulfonimidamides. The sulfonimidoyl chlorides can also be elaborated into primary sulfonamides via hydrolysis, and sulfonimidoyl fluorides via treatment with fluoride. These transformations are all achieved using one-pot procedures. Unprotected, primary sulfinamides are also available. For larger-scale reactions, the catalyst loading can be reduced to 1 mol %.

Abstract
A convenient and efficient approach to (E)-alkylsulfonyl olefins via a metal/light-free three-component reaction of alkenylboronic acids, sodium metabisulfite and Katritzky salts is described. This alkylsulfonylation proceeds smoothly with a broad substrate scope, leading to diverse (E)-alkylsulfonyl olefins in moderate to good yields. During the process, excellent functional group tolerance is observed and sodium metabisulfite is used as the source of sulfur dioxide. Mechanistic studies show that the alkyl radical generated in situ from Katritzky salt via a single electron transfer with alkenylboronic acid or DIPEA is the key step for providing an alkyl radical intermediate, which undergoes further alkylsulfonylation with sulfur dioxide.

Abstract
Ruthenium(II) complexes catalyze the insertion of sulfur dioxide into (het)aryl and alkenyl boronic acids. The transmetalation-sulfination process proceeds with DABSO in the presence of 5 mol % RuCl2(PPh3)3 in methanol at 100 °C. The intermediate sulfinate salt can be quenched with various electrophiles such as alkyl halides, epoxides, Michael acceptors, and λ3-iodanes in moderate to good yields. The reported sulfone synthesis can be performed either as a direct one-pot or one-pot two-step procedure depending on the reactivity of the electrophile.

Abstract
A convenient and straightforward three-component transformation of quinoline N-oxides, sodium metabisulfite and aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates has been developed, providing the target products in moderate to good yields. Compared with previous studies, the present methodology avoids the use of transition-metal catalysts and excess oxidants, providing a simple and practical alternative approach for the construction of 2-sulfonylquinolines. Control experiments indicate that a dual radical coupling process is responsible for this reaction.

Abstract
Organosulfur compounds have long played a vital role in organic chemistry and in the development of novel chemical structures and architectures. Prominent among these organosulfur compounds are those involving a sulfur(IV) center, which have been the subject of countless investigations over more than a hundred years. In addition to a long list of textbook sulfur-based reactions, there has been a sustained interest in the chemistry of organosulfur(IV) compounds in recent years. Of particular interest within organosulfur chemistry is the ease with which the synthetic chemist can effect a wide range of transformations through either bond formation or bond cleavage at sulfur. This review aims to cover the developments of the past decade in the chemistry of organic sulfur(IV) molecules and provide insight into both the wide range of reactions which critically rely on this versatile element and the diverse scaffolds that can thereby be synthesized.

Abstract
A radical relay strategy for the generation of 3-(methylsulfonyl)benzo[ b]thiophenes through a reaction of methyl(2-alkynylphenyl)sulfanes with sodium metabisulfite in the presence of a photocatalyst under visible light irradiation is developed. This photoinduced sulfonylation proceeds efficiently under mild conditions by using a catalytic amount of sodium methylsulfinate as an initiator. During the reaction process, the methyl radical generated in situ is the key intermediate, which undergoes a radical relay with the combination of sulfur dioxide to afford methylsulfonyl-containing compounds.

Abstract
A novel metal-free double SO2 insertion/multicomponent bicyclization cascade of benzene-linked 1,7-diynes has been established by treatment with aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates and DABCO-bis(sulfur dioxide) under redox-neutral conditions, providing a range of dual sulfone-containing naphtho[1,2-c]thiophene 2,2-dioxides with generally high stereoselectivity. The reaction pathway is proposed to proceed through the sequence of arylsulfonyl-radical-induced 6-exo-dig/5-endo-trig bicyclization, H-abstraction, and diazotization.

Abstract
Using a simple copper(i) catalyst has allowed a high yielding sulfonylative-Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction to be developed. The process provides a single step route to diaryl sulfones from the direct combination of aryl boronic acids, sulfur dioxide and aryl iodides, and represents the first sulfonylative variant of a classic cross-coupling reaction. Sulfur dioxide is delivered from the surrogate reagent, DABSO. Variation of the reaction conditions allowed interruption of the sulfonylative-Suzuki coupling, resulting in the formation of a presumed Cu-sulfinate intermediate. These sulfinates could be trapped as their sodium salts and treated with electrophiles to allow access to arylalkyl sulfones, β-hydroxyl sulfones, sulfonamides and sulfonyl fluorides.
