Abstract
Owing to their unique structural features, isothiocyanates (ITCs) are a class of highly useful and inimitable reagents as the -NCS group serves both as electrophile and nucleophile in organic synthesis. ITCs share a rich legacy in organic, medicinal, and combinatorial chemistry. Compared to their oxygen equivalents, isocyanates, ITCs are easily available, less unpleasant, and somewhat less harmful to work with (mild conditions) which makes them happy-go-lucky reagents. Functionalized ITCs can finely tune the reactivity of the -NCS group and thus can be exploited in the late-stage functionalization processes. This review's primary aim is to outline ITC chemistry in the construction and derivatization of heterocycles through the lens of sustainability. For ease and brevity, the sections are divided based on reactive centers present in functionalized ITCs and modes of cyclisation. Scrutinizing their probable unexplored directions for future research studies is also addressed.

Abstract
Once considered to be exotic species of limited synthetic utility, vinyl cations have recently been shown to be highly versatile intermediates in a variety of processes. Here, we report a method for the synthesis of aryl-substituted benzocycloheptenes and -hexenes using the hydrotriflate salt of an electron-poor pyridine as a uniquely efficient proton source for a vinyl cation mediated Friedel-Crafts cyclization. The mild conditions made possible by this reagent allowed a range of simple and functionalized alkynes bearing pendant aryl groups to serve as suitable substrates for this scalable and convenient protocol.

Abstract
A copper(ii)-catalyzed, high-efficiency and atom-economical synthesis of valuable organophosphorus compounds via tandem cyclization of o-alkynylphenyl isothiocyanates with phosphites is described. This protocol, having a good functional-group compatibility, provides a simple and direct pathway to organophosphorus heterocycles in good yields under mild conditions. The method could be efficiently scaled up to gram scale, thus providing a potential application of this cascade cyclization strategy in synthesis. A simple and highly efficient cascade cyclization of o-alkynylphenyl isothiocyanates with phosphites has been developed, affording a series of 4H-benzo[d][1,3]thiazin-2-yl phosphonates in moderate to good yields.![]()

Abstract
An efficient Cu(i)-catalysed cyclisation reaction of 2-iodobenzene sulfonamides with aryl-isothiocyanates and isocyanates that affords functionalised benzodithiazines and benzothiadiazinones, respectively, has been developed. Thus, in the reaction with aryl isothiocyanates (Ar-N[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]S), the C[double bond, length as m-dash]S moiety participates in the cyclisation leading to a dithiazine. By contrast, in the case of aryl isocyanates (Ar-N[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]O), the N[double bond, length as m-dash]C part is involved in the cyclisation and a thiadiazinone is obtained. Analogous reactions of isothiocyanates with N-tosyl-2-iodo-anilines and 2-iodo-benzyl sulfonamides afford (benzothiazin-2-ylidene)anilines and (benzothiazol-2-ylidene)anilines, respectively. Probable mechanistic pathways are briefly discussed.

Abstract
Gold(III)-catalyzed synthesis of 14-π electron heteroaromatic thiopyrano[2,3-b]indole is reported using conjugated enyne tethered indole sulfides, featuring skeletal rearrangement conjoined with intramolecular hydroarylation (via C3-H functionalization of the indole core) and oxidative aromatization. Subsequent Pd-catalyzed C-C coupling resulted in a 16-π electron heteroaromatic isothiochromeno[1,8,7-bcd]indole.
