Recent Progress in Synthetic and Biological Application of Diorganyl Diselenides

Diorganyl diselenides have emerged as privileged structures because they are easy to prepare, have distinct reactivity, and have broad biological activity. They have also been used in the synthesis of natural products as an electrophile in the organoselenylation of aromatic systems and peptides, reductions of alkenes, and nucleophilic substitution. This review summarizes the advancements in methods for the transformations promoted by diorganyl diselenides in the main functions of organic chemistry. Parallel, it will also describe the main findings on pharmacology and toxicology of diorganyl diselenides, emphasizing anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, chemotherapeutic, and antimicrobial activities. Therefore, an examination detailing the reactivity and biological characteristics of diorganyl diselenides provides valuable insights for academic researchers and industrial professionals.

DMF-Assisted Radical Cyclization of o-Isocyanodiaryl Ethers via 1,5-Aryl Migration: Construction of 2-Arylbenzoxazoles

A novel DMF-assisted radical cyclization of o-isocyanodiaryl ethers via 1,5-aryl migration has been developed for the synthesis of a series of 2-arylbenzoxazoles by the FeCl₃/TBHP/Et₃N catalytic system in DMF. However, N,N-dimethylbenzo[d]thiazole-2-carboxamide and N,N-dimethylbenzo[d]selenazole-2-carboxamide were obtained from the corresponding substrate 2-isocyanophenyl p-methoxyphenyl thioether and 2-isocyanodiphenyl selenoether under the same conditions. A possible mechanism may involve aryl 1,5-migration and DMF-assisted radical cyclization of o-isocyanodiaryl ethers.

Synthetic strategies for aryl/heterocyclic selenides and tellurides under transition-metal-catalyst free conditions

Aryl and heteroaryl selenides and tellurides are found to have broad applications in the diverse fields such as medicine, biology, materials science, pharmaceutical etc. and thus their synthesis remains a challenging field for synthetic chemists in last decade. Although a large no of methodologies have been developed based on metal catalyzed C-Se/Te coupling, a large number of researches has been focused on developing metal catalyst free protocols due to their sustainability in recent times. This review covers all the recent developments in last decade on their synthesis under metal catalyst free conditions by using different sustainable techniques e.g. greener reagents and solvents, ball milling, visible light photocatalysis, microwave, ultrasound etc.

Transition Metal- and Oxidant-Free Base-Mediated Selenation of Bicyclic Arenes at Room Temperature

Bicyclic arenyl selenides are of much importance because of their pharmaceutical applications. A simple method for their synthesis has been developed by a reaction of 2-naphthol and styrenyl selenocyanate/diaryl diselenide in the presence of a base at room temperature. The selenation occurs exclusively at the 1-position of 2-naphthol unit. The reactions are relatively fast (2-4 h) and high yielding. A library of substituted naphthyl styrenyl and naphthyl aryl selenides are obtained by this procedure.
