Abstract
The Cu-doped titanium oxide (Cu/TiO2) nanocomposite was systematically prepared using the innovatively feasible incipient wet impregnation method. Notably, the samples were derived from the raw materials through water dilution only. The successful formation of the host anatase TiO2 phase was confirmed by the characteristic peaks observed in the acquired X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) spectrum, which displayed intense peaks attributed to Cu2+ scattering sites, indicating the formation of crystallite Cu/TiO2 nanostructures. Dielectric measurements revealed that Cu/TiO2 possesses a higher dielectric permittivity compared to undoped TiO2. The conductivity for both structures exhibited a decreasing trend with increasing temperature. Interestingly, the measured optical properties indicated that Cu/TiO2 exhibited the minimum energy gap and maximum refractive index. This was further validated by qualitative time-dependent density functional calculation on a stable structural model, which was confirmed through semi-empirical molecular dynamic calculations. Thus, we have demonstrated the capability of our innovatively feasible synthesis method to produce the industrially important Cu-doped TiO2.

Multi-Functional Materials Based on Cu-Doped TiO2 Ceramic Fibers with Enhanced Pseudocapacitive Performances and Their Dielectric Characteristics. Polymers (Basel) 2022; 14:polym14214739. [DOI: 10.3390/polym14214739] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 10/11/2022] [Revised: 10/31/2022] [Accepted: 11/02/2022] [Indexed: 11/09/2022] Open
Abstract
In this work, pure TiO2 and Cu (0.5, 1, 2%)-doped TiO2 composites prepared by electrospinning technique followed by calcination at 900 °C, and having high pseudocapacitive and dielectric characteristics were reported. These nanocomposites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and dynamic water sorption vapor measurements. The structural characterization of these nanostructures highlighted good crystallinity including only the rutile phase. The electrochemical characteristics were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge–discharge measurements, which were performed in a KOH electrolyte solution. Among the Cu-doped TiO2 nanostructures that were prepared, the one containing 0.5% Cu exhibited superior electrochemical properties, including high specific gravimetric capacitance of 1183 F·g−1, specific capacitance of 664 F·g−1, energy density of 45.20 Wh·kg−1, high power density of 723.14 W·kg−1, and capacitance retention of about 94% after 100 cycles. The dielectric investigation shows good dielectric properties for all materials, where the dielectric constant and the dielectric loss decreased with the frequency increase. Thus, all the interconnected studies proved that these new materials show manifold ability and real applicative potential as pseudocapacitors and high-performance dielectrics. Future work and perspectives are anticipated for characterizing electrochemical and dielectric properties for materials including larger amounts of Cu dopant.

Abstract
Using photodeposition and plasma, Pt-N co-modified TiO2 nanotube electrodes were created. Several techniques, such as SEM, XRD, UV-VIS-DRS, XPS, and PL, were used to analyze the electrode shape, crystalline structure, light absorption range, elemental composition, and photogenerated carrier recombination efficiency. Using the electrochemical workstation, EIS and I-t were utilized to examine the electrochemical characteristics. The results indicated that the diameter of the TiO2 nanotube tubes was around 90 nm, and that the photodeposition duration affected the amount of Pt particles deposited. The deposited Pt particles efficiently reduced the photogenerated carrier complexation rate of the N-TiO2 nanotube electrode, contributing to the separation of electron-hole pairs and light utilization. Electrochemical studies indicated that Pt-N co-modified TiO2 increased the electrode's oxidation and electrical conductivity, as well as its photoelectrocatalytic capacity. Oxytetracycline degradation in simulated wastewater by a Pt-N co-modified TiO2 nanotube electrode revealed the exceptional PEC activity, and the oxytetracycline degradation processes followed primary kinetics. •O2- and •OH played a significant role in the photoelectrocatalytic degradation of oxytetracycline, resulting in a novel method for oxytetracycline degradation.

Abstract
UNLABELLED The MnMoO4 is an environmentally friendly semiconductor material widely employed in technological devices. This material can be obtained on three different polymorphs, and although such phases were reported decades ago, some obscurity over their structure and properties is still perceived. Thus, this work provides a comprehensive DFT investigation of the α, β, and ω phases of MnMoO4, analyzing their crystalline structure, stability, and electronic and magnetic properties. The results show that all phases of MnMoO4 are stable at room conditions connected by pressure application or long-time high-temperature treatment. The MnMoO4 phases are G-type antiferromagnetic with semiconductor bandgap and have enormous potential to develop magnetic, optical, and electronic devices and photocatalytic-based processes. The results also evidence potential antiviral and antibacterial activities of the three MnMoO4 polymorphs. Abstract
Over the years, the possibility of using solar radiation in photocatalysis or photodegradation processes has attracted remarkable interest from scientists around the world. In such processes, due to its electronic properties, Ag3PO4 is one of the most important semiconductors. This work delves into the photocatalytic activity, stability, and reactivity of Ag3PO4 surfaces by comparing plane waves with projector augmented wave and localized Gaussian basis set simulations, at the atomic level. The results indicate that the (110) surface, in agreement with previous experimental reports, displays the most suitable characteristics for photocatalytic activity due to its high reactivity, i.e. the presence of a large amount of undercoordinated Ag cations and a high value work function. Beyond the innovative results, this work shows a good synergy between both kinds of DFT approaches.
