Abstract
In this work, green-emitting carbon quantum dots were successfully prepared through a facile one-step solid-state reaction method. The obtained green-emitting carbon dots (G-CDs) showed good fluorescence stability in NaCl aqueous solution and different pH values. Moreover, the G-CDs showed high sensitivity and selectivity for detecting hypochlorite by both fluorometry and colorimetry. Under the optimized condition, a highly sensitive detection of hypochlorite was established in the range of 0.2-100 μM and 10-150 μM for fluorescent and colorimetric methods, respectively. The corresponding limits of detection (LOD) were 0.0781 μM and 1.82 μM, respectively. Therefore, the G-CDs were successfully applied to determinate hypochlorite in actual water samples. In addition, a paper-based sensor loading with the G-CDs was also developed for rapid visual detection of hypochlorite. The results suggested that the G-CDs could be a promising candidate to detect hypochlorite.

Abstract
Hypochlorous acid (HClO) is a special kind of reactive oxygen species, which plays an important role in resisting pathogen invasion and maintaining cell redox balance and other physiological processes. In addition, HClO is commonly used in daily life as a bleaching and disinfectant agent. Its excessive use can also lead to death of water animals and serious respiratory and skin diseases in humans. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop a quick and convenient tool for detecting HClO in the environment and organisms. In this paper, we utilize the specific reaction of HClO with dimethylthiocarbamate to develop a novel naphthalene derivative fluorescent probe (BNA-HClO), it was designed and synthesized by using 6-(2-benzothiazolyl)-2-naphthol as the fluorophore and N,N-dimethylthiocarbamate as the recognition group. BNA-HClO shows large fluorescence enhancement (374-fold), high sensitivity (a detection limit of 37.56 nM), rapid response (<30 s), strong anti-interference ability and good specificity in vitro. Based on the outstanding in vitro sensing capability of BNA-HClO, it has been successfully used to detect spiked HClO in tap water, medical wastewater and fetal bovine serum with good recovery. BNA-HClO has also been successfully used as a portable test strip for the in situ semi-quantitative detection of HClO in tap water solutions. In addition, BNA-HClO can successfully enable the detection and imaging of exogenous and endogenous HClO in living cells. This work provides a simple and effective tool for the detection and imaging of HClO in environmental and biological systems, and provides some theoretical guidance for future exploration of biological and pathological studies related to HClO. A new fluorescence probe was successfully applied to test strips and imaging analysis of exogenous and endogenous hypochlorite in living cells.![]()

Abstract
A photo-responsive compound BINOL-LA (1) having a rigid backbone ending up with two 5-membered cyclic disulfide moieties was designed. BINOL-LA capped Ag nanoparticles (1@Ag NPs) with a network structure were synthesized in a green way by sunlight or UV lamp irradiation. 1@Ag NPs exhibit a selective recognition towards ClO- in aqueous solution with a switch-on fluorescence response and a visual color change, with detection limits of 0.17 μM and 1.54 μM, respectively. The sensing mechanism is based on the ClO--mediated oxidation of AgS bond, resulting in a disaggregation of 1@Ag NPs assembly. With the strategy demonstrated here, ClO- in tap water and lake water can be detected quantitatively in 5 s.

Abstract
Hypochlorous acid (HClO) is one of the most important ROS (reactive oxygen species) and common pollutant in tap-water. However, the determination of HClO with fast response and high sensitivity/selectivity is still an urgent demanding. Here we fabricated a ratiometric fluorescent probe RC based on TBET (through-bond energy transfer) on the platform of coumarin and rhodamine with the thiosemicarbazide group as the linker. This probe could display the characteristic fluorescence emission of coumarin. Upon addition of HClO, the linker was reacted into an oxadiazole, resulting in the opening of spiro-ring of rhodamine. The resultant then gives ratiometric fluorogenic changes. The probe exhibits fast response and high selectivity and sensitivity towards HClO with a low limit of detection (~140 nM). Eventually, RC is successfully applicated for determining spiked HClO in water samples and imaging endogenous HClO in living cells.

Abstract
A turn-on fluorescent probe (DAME) for sensing hypochlorous acid (HClO) with excellent selectivity was presented. The fluorescent probe was composed of coumarin derivative as the fluorophore and dimethylcarbamothioic chloride group with a sulfide moiety as modulator. Additionally, the sulfide moiety would be oxidized by HClO, and then free dye of coumarin derivate was released and exhibited significant fluorescence. In addition, the probe could respond to HClO in solutions within 60 s and the limit of detection was down to 34.75 nM. Moreover, the probe was used for the detection of HClO in tap water through the home-made test paper. And confocal images confirmed that probe DAME could be used for recognizing HClO in living cells.

Abstract
A series of novel trifluoromethylcoumarinyl urea derivatives were designed, synthesized, and characterized by ¹H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and HR-ESI-MS. The fluorescence spectra of the target compounds were recorded. The spectra show that most of the title compounds glow green with λmaxem of 500-517 nm, while compounds 5r, 5s, 5u, and 5l (compounds named by authors) glow violet with λmaxem of 381-443 nm. Moreover, the herbicidal and antifungal activities of the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their potential use as pesticides. The results indicate that compound 5f against the caulis of Amaranthusretroflexus and compounds 5j and 5l against the taproot of Digitariasanguinalis are equivalent to the commercial herbicide Acetochlor. Nine of the title compounds are more antifungal than commercial fungicide Carbendazim against Botrytis cinerea.

Abstract
A series of novel 4-methylumbelliferone amide derivatives were designed, synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HR-ESI-MS. The structures of compounds 4bd and 4be (compounds named by authors) were further confirmed by X-ray single crystal diffraction. The acaricidal, herbicidal and antifungal activities of the synthesized compounds were assayed for their potential use as pesticide. The results indicated that compounds 4bi, 4ac and 4bd were strong acaricidals against Tetranychus cinnabarinus, with 72h corrected mortalities of greater than 80% at 1000 mg/L. Meanwhile, compounds 4bh and 4bf exhibit the strongest inhibition against the taproot development of Digitaria sanguinalis and Chenopodium glaucum, and were even more potent than the commercial herbicide Acetochlor against D. sanguinalis. In addition, compounds 4bk, 4bh and 4bp showed the highest antifungal activity against the mycelium growth of Valsa mali, which makes them more effective than commercial fungicide Carbendazim.

Abstract
Efforts were made to develop a simple new approach for the green synthesis of surface-passivated carbon dots from edible prickly pear cactus fruit as the carbon source by a one-pot hydrothermal route. Glutathione (GSH) was passivated on the surface of the CDs to form a sensor probe, which exhibited excellent optical properties and water solubility. The prepared sensor was successfully characterized by UV-visible spectrophotometry, fluorescence spectrophotometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The simple sensing platform developed by the GSH-CDs was highly sensitive and selective with a “turn-off” fluorescence response for the dual detection of As3+ and ClO− ions in drinking water. This sensing system exhibited effective quenching in the presence of As3+ and ClO− ions to display the formation of metal complexes and surface interaction with an oxygen functional group. The oxygen-rich GSH-CDs afforded a better selectivity for As3+/ClO− ions over other competitive ions. The fluorescence quenching measurement quantified the concentration range as 2–12 nM and 10–90 μM with the lower detection limit of 2.3 nM and 0.016 μM for the detection of As3+ and ClO− ions, respectively. Further, we explored the potential applications of this simple, reliable, and cost-effective sensor for the detection of As3+/ClO− ions in environmental samples for practical analysis. Efforts were made to develop a simple new approach for the green synthesis of surface-passivated carbon dots from edible prickly pear cactus fruit as the carbon source by a one-pot hydrothermal route.![]()
