Abstract
Water pollution caused by the release of organic pollutants is a major environmental concern worldwide. These pollutants can have harmful effects on aquatic ecosystems and the organisms living within them, as well as on human health when contaminated water is consumed. It is essential to implement proper treatment and management strategies to prevent and mitigate water pollution. Moreover, the major untreated industrial effluents are synthetic organic compounds especially 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) which cause several environmental issues and heath related problems in humans. To cope with this problem, an excellent 2D porous material based on p-DMAC4/GO composite has been synthesized as adsorbent material for the effective removal of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol pollutant from wastewater. In this regard, the advanced analytical tools such as Fourier-Transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy-Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were used for its characterization. The results justified the chemical composition, excellent crystalline nature, surface morphology and elemental composition of the synthesized composite material. The synthesized adsorbent material showed 95% adsorption of TCP from wastewater system at optimal conditions i.e., pH (6), adsorbent dosage (30 mg) and shaking time (60 min). The mathematical models such as isotherms, thermodynamics and kinetics studies validate the nature of adsorption process of TCP pollutant. The adsorption data found to be best fitted with Langmuir isotherms (R2 = 0.99); whereas kinetic study suggested the pseudo-second-order nature of reaction with R2 = 0.99. The thermodynamics study confirmed the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the TCP pollutant onto the surface of p-DMAC4/GO material. Moreover, the results of current work were also compared with existing reported adsorbents and data suggested the higher efficiency, feasibility, and reusability of p-DMAC4/GO material to remove the TCP pollutant from the wastewater system.

Abstract
Carbon-based nanomaterials and its derivatives such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, reduced graphene oxide, and graphene oxide have been widely used as unique sorbents for removal of both organic and inorganic contaminants due to unique physical and chemical properties. In the review, application of the carbon-based nanomaterials or nanocomposites is considered with particular focus on the lead(II) removal from water and wastewater samples. Moreover, various procedures of synthesis and functionalization of each class of carbon-based nanomaterials were reviewed. A critical review has been given to the adsorption behavior of these nanomaterials and interaction type between the sorbent and lead(II) ion s due to changes in their surface structure and functional group modification for the removal of lead(II)ions. The adsorption capacity, the sorbent selectivity and structure, and the adsorption mechanism for lead(II) ion adsorption with these sorbents were studied and compared. Specific consideration is devoted to effecting of pH of samples as a critical factor in the adsorption of lead(II)ions on each class of carbon-based nanomaterials. Also, the advantages and disadvantages of the nanomaterials or nanocomposites for the adsorption of lead(II) ion were evaluated in detail. In this way, the paper will contribute to presenting suggestions for the preparation of new sorbents to researchers for future study, as well as the remaining research challenges in this field.

A Facile Electrochemical Sensor Based on PyTS⁻CNTs for Simultaneous Determination of Cadmium and Lead Ions. SENSORS 2018; 18:s18051567. Abstract
A simple and easy method was implemented for the contemporary detection of cadmium (Cd2+) and lead (Pb2+) ions using 1,3,6,8-pyrenetetrasulfonic acid sodium salt-functionalized carbon nanotubes nanocomposites (PyTS⁻CNTs). The morphology and composition of the obtained PyTS⁻CNTs were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The experimental results confirmed that the fabricated PyTS⁻CNTs exhibited good selectivity and sensitivity for metal ion-sensing owing to the insertion of sulfonic acid groups. For Cd2+ and Pb2+, some of the electrochemical sensing parameters were evaluated by varying data such as the PyTS⁻CNT quantity loaded on the pyrolytic graphite electrode (PGE), pH of the acetate buffer, deposition time, and deposition potential. These parameters were optimized with differential pulse anodic sweeping voltammetry (DPASV). Under the optimal condition, the stripping peak current of the PyTS⁻CNTs/Nafion/PGE varies linearly with the heavy metal ion concentration, ranging from 1.0 μg L-1 to 90 μg L-1 for Cd2+ and from 1.0 μg L-1 to 110 μg L-1 for Pb2+. The limits of detection were estimated to be approximately 0.8 μg L-1 for Cd2+ and 0.02 μg L-1 for Pb2+. The proposed PyTS⁻CNTs/Nafion/PGE can be used as a rapid, simple, and controllable electrochemical sensor for the determination of toxic Cd2+ and Pb2+.
