Abstract
In the last two decades, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with highly tunable structure and porosity, have emerged as drug nanocarriers in the biomedical field. In particular, nanoscaled MOFs (nanoMOFs) have been widely investigated because of their potential biocompatibility, high drug loadings, and progressive release. To enhance their properties, MOFs have been combined with magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) to form magnetic nanocomposites (MNP@MOF) with additional functionalities. Due to the magnetic properties of the MNPs, their presence in the nanosystems enables potential combinatorial magnetic targeted therapy and diagnosis. In this Review, we analyze the four main synthetic strategies currently employed for the fabrication of MNP@MOF nanocomposites, namely, mixing, in situ formation of MNPs in presynthesized MOF, in situ formation of MOFs in the presence of MNPs, and layer-by-layer methods. Additionally, we discuss the current progress in bioapplications, focusing on drug delivery systems (DDSs), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetic hyperthermia (MHT), and theragnostic systems. Overall, we provide a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in the development and bioapplications of MNP@MOF nanocomposites, highlighting their potential for future biomedical applications with a critical analysis of the challenges and limitations of these nanocomposites in terms of their synthesis, characterization, biocompatibility, and applicability.

Abstract
A hydrophilic Al-MOFs composite was prepared using cheap and available reagents in water via a suitable large-scale production, an economical and environment-friendly method for capturing N-glycopeptides. The prepared Al-MOFs composite with high hydrolytically stable and hydrophilic 1D channels exhibits an ultralow detection limit (0.5 fmol/μL), and excellent reusability (at least 10 cycles) in the capture of N-glycopeptides from standard bio-samples. Interestingly, the Al-MOFs composite also shows remarkable performance in practical applications, where 300 N-glycopeptides ascribed to 124 glycoproteins were identified in 1 µL human serum and were successfully applied in profiling the differences of N-glycopeptides during diabetes progression. Moreover, 12 specific glycoproteins used as biomarkers to accurately distinguish the progression of diabetes are identified. The present work provides a potential commercial method for large-scale glycoproteomics research in complex clinical samples while offering new guidance for the precise diagnosis of diabetes progression.

Abstract
The use of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as delivery systems for biologically functional macromolecules has been explored widely in recent years due to their ability to protect their payload from a wide range of harsh conditions. Given the wide usage and diversity of potential applications, optimising the encapsulation efficiency by MOFs for different biological is of particular importance. Here, several protein quantitation methods and report were compared on the accuracy, practicality, limitations, and sensitivity of these methods to assess the encapsulation efficiency of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF)-8 MOFs for two common biologicals commonly used in nanomedicine, bovine serum albumin (BSA), and the enzyme catalase (CAT). Using these methods, ZIF-8 encapsulation of BSA and CAT was confirmed to enrich for high molecular weight and glycosylated protein forms. However, contrary to most reports, a high degree of variance was observed across all methods assessed, with fluorometric quantitation providing the most consistent results with the lowest background and greatest dynamic range. While bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay has showed greater detection range than the Bradford (Coomassie) assay, BCA and Bradford assays were found to be susceptible to background from the organic "MOF" linker 2-methylimidazole, reducing their overall sensitivity. Finally, while very sensitive and useful for assessing protein quality SDS-PAGE is also susceptible to confounding artifacts and background. Given the increasing use of enzyme delivery using MOFs, and the diversity of potential uses in biomedicine, identifying a rapid and efficient method of assessing biomolecule encapsulation is key to their wider acceptance.

Abstract
Highly efficient extraction of glycopeptides prior to mass spectrometry detection is extremely crucial for glycoproteomic research, especially in disease biomarker research. Reported here is the first time by applying two-dimensional (2D) covalent organic framework (COFs) nanosheets for highly efficient enrichment of glycopeptides. Particularly, by incorporating hydrophilic monomers through a bottom-up strategy, the 2D COF nanosheets (denoted as NUS-9) displayed an ultra-high graft density of sulfonic groups and super-hydrophilicity. In addition, because of the large surface area, low steric hindrance, high chemical stability, and abundant accessibility sites of 2D COF nanosheets, NUS-9 exhibited remarkable efficiency for glycopeptide enrichment, involving excellent detection sensitivity (0.01 fmol μL-1), outstanding enrichment capability, and good enrichment selectivity (1:1500, horseradish peroxidase (HRP) tryptic digest to bovine serum albumin (BSA) tryptic digest), and recovery (92.2 ± 2.0%). Moreover, the NUS-9 was able to unambiguously detect 631 endogenous glycopeptides from human saliva, demonstrating an unparalleled high efficiency in glycopeptide enrichment. Gene ontology analyses of proteins from human saliva enriched by NUS-9 demonstrated its potential for comprehensive glycoproteome analysis.

Abstract
This review is the tenth update of the original article published in 1999 on the application of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI) mass spectrometry to the analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates and brings coverage of the literature to the end of 2018. Also included are papers that describe methods appropriate to glycan and glycoprotein analysis by MALDI, such as sample preparation techniques, even though the ionization method is not MALDI. Topics covered in the first part of the review include general aspects such as theory of the MALDI process, new methods, matrices, derivatization, MALDI imaging, fragmentation and the use of arrays. The second part of the review is devoted to applications to various structural types such as oligo- and poly-saccharides, glycoproteins, glycolipids, glycosides, and biopharmaceuticals. Most of the applications are presented in tabular form. The third part of the review covers medical and industrial applications of the technique, studies of enzyme reactions, and applications to chemical synthesis. The reported work shows increasing use of combined new techniques such as ion mobility and highlights the impact that MALDI imaging is having across a range of diciplines. Abstract
The comprehensive profiling of glycoproteins is of great significance for the timely clinical diagnosis and therapy. However, inherent obstacles hamper their direct analysis from biological samples, and specific enrichment prior to analysis is indispensable. Among the various approaches for glycopeptide enrichment, hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) has attracted special focus, especially for the development of novel hydrophilic materials, which is the key of HILIC. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a type of porous materials constructed from the self-assembly of metal and organic linkers. Advantages such as high surface area, flexible pore size, and easy modification render hydrophilic MOFs as ideal candidates for HILIC, which has inspired many studies over the past years. In this review, advances in hydrophilic MOFs for N-linked glycopeptide enrichment are summarized. According to the synthesis strategies, those materials are categorized into three classes, namely pristine MOFs, MOFs with chemical modifications, and MOFs-derived composite. In each categorization, the preparation and the function of different moieties are covered, as well as the enrichment performances of sensitivity, selectivity, and practical application. Finally, a summary and future perspective on the applications of hydrophilic MOFs for N-linked glycopeptide enrichment are briefly discussed. This review is expected to raise awareness of the properties of hydrophilic MOFs and offer some valuable information to further research in glycoproteomics.

Abstract
The effective analysis of glycoproteomics in clinical complex samples is of vital importance for the diagnosis and therapy of diseases. In this study, a hydrophilic MOFs-303-functionalized magnetic probe (GO@Fe3O4@MOF-303) is designed and fabricated to profile N-linked glycopeptides. Owing to its strong magnetic property, large surface area (845 m2 g-1), excellent hydrophilicity and suitable porous structure, the GO@Fe3O4@MOF-303 probe exhibits an ultralow detection limit (0.1 fmol μL-1), perfect size-exclusion effect (HRP digests/BSA protein/HRP protein, 1 : 1000 : 1000, w/w/w), a high binding capacity (200 mg g-1) and excellent reusability in the capture of standard N-linked glycopeptides. More excitingly, the GO@Fe3O4@MOF-303 probe also shows remarkable performance in practical applications, where 274 N-linked glycopeptides from 101 glycoproteins were identified in total for healthy controls, while a total of 265 N-linked glycopeptides from 102 glycoproteins were identified in serum (1 μL) with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In addition, we discovered 4 up-regulated and 19 down-regulated serum glycoproteins in HCC patients by the hierarchical clustering heatmap. All results demonstrated that the reusable GO@Fe3O4@MOF-303 probe has great potential in profiling different N-linked glycopeptides in complex clinical samples. This study not only developed a novel probe for the highly effective capture of N-linked glycopeptides but also contributed to further understanding the mechanism of HCC and provides guidance for the development of novel clinical diagnostic methods.

Abstract
An O2 self-evolving core-shell theranostic nanohybrid was developed by encapsulating a nanoenzyme cerium oxide (CeOx) in a metal-organic framework (MOF). The hybrid reveals a 9-fold higher apoptotic percentage than bare CeOx in a harsh hypoxic microenvironment through tandem homogenous catalysis. Simultaneously, the oxygen-promoted therapeutic efficiency was self-monitored by the hybrid with caspase-3 activation, paving the way for MOF-functionalized nanoenzymes in theranostics.

Abstract
It has been confirmed that endogenous glycopeptide plays an important role in a variety of pathological and physiological processes. However, direct analysis of endogenous glycopeptide is still a great challenge owing to the low abundance of endogenous glycopeptides and the presence of a large number of interfering substances such as large-sized proteins and heteropeptides in complex biological sample. Herein, we reported a novel bowl-like mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticle modified by carrageenan (denoted as MPDA@PEI@CA) with strong hydrophilicity and size-exclusion effect for high specificity enrichment of endogenous glycopeptides. Thanks to the suitable pore channel structure as well as strong hydrophilic surface, the as-prepared MPDA@PEI@CA nanoparticles exhibited prominent performance in enrichment of N-linked glycopeptide with ultrahigh selectivity (1:5000 M ratio of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) digests/bovine serum albumin (BSA) digests), low detection limit (5 fmol μL-1), outstanding size-exclusion ability (1:1000 mass of HRP/BSA), and unique reusability (five times). 125 N-glycosylation sites of 134 glycopeptides from 65 glycoproteins were identified from 2 μL sample of human serum treated with the MPDA@PEI@CA nanoparticles, which manifested the ability to enrich endogenous N-linked glycopeptides from complex biological samples. These results indicated that the bowl-like MPDA@PEI@CA nanoparticles with novel structure prepared in this work had great potential for glycopeptidome analysis.

Abstract
In the last two decades, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted overwhelming attention. With readily tunable structures and functionalities, MOFs offer an unprecedentedly vast degree of design flexibility from enormous number of inorganic and organic building blocks or via postsynthetic modification to produce functional nanoporous materials. A large extent of experimental and computational studies of MOFs have been focused on gas phase applications, particularly the storage of low-carbon footprint energy carriers and the separation of CO2-containing gas mixtures. With progressive success in the synthesis of water- and solvent-resistant MOFs over the past several years, the increasingly active exploration of MOFs has been witnessed for widespread liquid phase applications such as liquid fuel purification, aromatics separation, water treatment, solvent recovery, chemical sensing, chiral separation, drug delivery, biomolecule encapsulation and separation. At this juncture, the recent experimental and computational studies are summarized herein for these multifaceted liquid phase applications to demonstrate the rapid advance in this burgeoning field. The challenges and opportunities moving from laboratory scale towards practical applications are discussed.

Abstract
Developing functional porous carbon is greatly desired for the capture of N-glycans from complex bio-samples. In this work, ferronickel graphene-based porous carbon composites (FeNi-G/PC-T, T = carbonization temperature) are facilely prepared and are characterized by the synergistic integration of magnetic separation, porosity and polar interaction. Studies of capture of N-linked glycans reveal that FeNi-G/PC-800 shows a remarkable performance to enrich N-linked glycans from standard bio-samples and real human serum, resulting in the successful profiling of 48 N-linked glycans in 5 μL human serum. Structure-property relationship studies further demonstrate that the synergistically integrated FeNi nanoparticles and graphene-based porous carbon in FeNi-G/PC-800 should play a key role in the capture performance.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are an emerging class of molecular crystalline materials built from metal ions or clusters bridged by organic linkers. By taking advantage of their synthetic tunability and structural regularity, MOFs can hierarchically integrate nanoparticles and/or biomolecules into a single framework to enable multifunctions. The MOF-protected heterostructures not only enhance the catalytic capacity of nanoparticle components but also retain the biological activity of biomolecules in an intracellular microenvironment. Therefore, the multifunctional MOF heterostructures have great advantages over single components in cancer therapy. In this review, we comprehensively summarize the general principle of the design and functional modulation of nanoscaled MOF heterostructures, and biomedical applications in enhanced therapy within the last five years. The functions of MOF heterostructures with a controlled size can be regulated by designing various functional ligands and in situ growth/postmodification of nanoparticles and/or biomolecules. The advances in the application of multifunctional MOF heterostructures are also explored for enhanced cancer therapies involving photodynamic therapy, photothermal therapy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and theranostics. The remaining challenges and future opportunities in this field, in terms of precisely localized assembly, maximizing composite properties, and processing new techniques, are also presented. The introduction of multiple components into one crystalline MOF provides a promising approach to design all-in-one theranostics in clinical treatments.

Abstract
Endogenous glycopeptides are significantly important in diverse pathological and physiological systems, but their direct analysis is severely hampered by their low abundance and presence of interfering species in biological fluids. In this study, we synthesized the amine-functionalized titanium metal-organic framework (NH2-MIL-125(Ti)) by a simple hydrothermal method, characterized and used for glycopeptides enrichment. The designed separation media is highly hydrophilic and stable which is suitable for hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC). To make the process smooth, simple, reliable, and robust, NH2-MIL-125(Ti) crystals were packed in pipette-tip using hydrophilic melamine foam, as supporting frit. Free amine groups, present in the structure imparted hydrophilicity and a unique pattern of porosity, contributing to the size exclusion effect that excluded the large-sized proteins up to 1:700 peptide to protein ratio. The prepared MOF particles possessed regular porosity, high surface area, good hydrophilicity, and offered an in-tip flow-based set-up enhanced the enrichment performance for N-linked glycopeptides. The affinity material showed a detection limit of 1 fmol.µL-1 and selectivity up to 1:1000 (HRP digest to BSA digest). Moreover, repeatability and reusability were evaluated up to five rounds of enrichment using the same affinity tip, and scanning electron microscopic images revealed no structural changes in the MOF crystals. Finally, the MOF packed in pipette tip was applied to selectively capture the N-linked endogenous glycopeptides from a healthy saliva sample and 64 unique endogenous glycopeptides were identified. These results demonstrated the excellent potential of NH2-MIL-125(Ti) based affinity tip for glycopeptides which can be used to enrich trace glycopeptide biomarkers from the biological fluids.

Abstract
A metal-organic framework (MOF) is one kind of crystalline microporous material and is increasingly used as a host of catalytically active guests. Nanostructured materials supported on MOFs have presented enhanced catalytic activity and stability. Templates or several steps are essential to the synthesis of MOF composites. Simple and effective MOF synthesis methods are still challenging. Nanosized copper oxide particles in MOF composites, described as nanosized CuO@HKUST-1, were prepared by a facile solvent-free reaction. These series of CuO@HKUST-1 composites exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity for production of hydrogen and methylene blue (MB) degradation under visible light. This synthesis method provides an effective way to fabricate MOF-related nanocomposite catalysts.

Abstract
Core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) consisting of a gold core and a metal-organic framework shell (type MOF-74) were synthesized via one-pot synthesis. The NPs exhibit highly sensitive and stable SERS activity for the detection of 4-nitrothiophenol, with a specific band at 1337 cm-1. The method has a linear response in 0.10-10 μmol·L-1 analyte concentration range and a lower detection limit of 69 nmol·L-1. The potential application of this novel SERS substrate was evaluated by two model reactions involving 4-nitrothiophenol. The first involves in-situ SERS monitoring of the surface plasmon-induced nitration of aromatic rings without adding conventional acid catalyst. The second involves the photocatalytic reduction of 4-nitrothiophenol to 4-thioaminophenol in the presence of Au/MOF-74 under 785-nm laser irradiation. The plasmon-assisted dimerization of 4-nitrothiophenol to form 4,4'-dimercaptoazobenzene can also be monitored simultaneously. Graphical abstract Schematic presentation of a nanoparticle SERS substrate consisting of gold core and MOF-74 shell, which was applied to detection of 4-nitrothiophenol. The Au/MOF-74 was successfully used for in-situ monitoring of two model reactions involving 4-nitrothiophenol by SERS.

Abstract
High-performance affinity materials are highly required in the sample preparation process in mass spectrometry-based glycoproteomics studies. In this research, a novel magnetic nanofiber-based zwitterionic hydrophilic material is prepared for glycopeptide enrichment and identification. The one-dimensional hydroxyapatite nanofiber (HN) acted as the supporting substance for immobilizing both Fe3O4 nanoparticles and Au nanoparticles, following the surface modification with a zwitterionic tripeptide l-glutathione (GSH) via the affinity interactions between the thiol group in GSH and both Au and Fe3O4 to form the magHN/Au-GSH nanofiber. Owing to the unique structural features, excellent hydrophilicity, abundant zwitterionic molecules, and strong magnetic responsiveness, the as-prepared magHN/Au-GSH nanofiber possesses satisfactory specificity for glycopeptide enrichment. As a result, the magHN/Au-GSH nanofiber demonstrated great detection sensitivity (2 fmol), satisfying enrichment recovery (89.65%), large binding capacity (100 mg g-1), and high enrichment selectivity (1 : 100) toward glycopeptides. Furthermore, 246 N-glycosylated peptides corresponding to 104 N-glycosylated proteins were identified from only 1 μL human serum, revealing the great potential of this affinity nanofiber for glycopeptide enrichment and glycoproteomics research.

Abstract
The development of facilely synthetic materials for highly efficient enrichment of N-linked glycopeptides is essential in glycoproteome analysis. In this work, by utilizing the self-assembling of glutathione (GSH) on silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), and the formation and dispersion of Ag NPs on a robust TpPa-1 substrate, a newly functionalized covalent organic framework (COF) called TpPa-1@Ag@GSH was synthesized via a simple two step post-synthetic modification. TpPa-1@Ag@GSH and intermediate products were confirmed and evaluated by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller and thermogravimetric analyses. Benefiting from the judicious selection of the substrate, the abundance of binding sites, relatively high affinity between GSH and N-linked glycopeptides, and the multivalent interactions between N-linked glycopeptides and unoccupied surfaces of Ag NPs, this porous material showed great performance in N-linked glycopeptide enrichment. By enriching N-linked glycopeptides in tryptic digests of human serum immunoglobulin G (human IgG) followed by mass spectrometry analysis, our method was proved to have good sensitivity (1 fmol), high selectivity (1 : 1500, human IgG to bovine serum albumin), high binding capacity (160 mg g-1, IgG/TpPa-1@Ag@GSH), ultra-fast capture ability (only 1 min incubation time), and good reusability (at least 5 times). It was also successfully applied to the enrichment of N-linked glycopeptides from complex biological samples. Our work improved the enrichment selectivity of COFs, reached the most rapid capture ability among off-column enrichment materials, and provided a very facile and easily popularized post-synthetic modification route for COFs in glycoproteome analysis.

Abstract
Glycopeptidome profiling provides large-scale information about the glycosylation level of endogenous peptides, reflecting the dynamic processes of disease occurrences and developments. However, endogenous glycopeptides are usually submerged in complex fluids containing a wide variety of interference molecules, such as high concentration proteins, nonglycopeptides, and salts, which confounds attempts to identify glycopeptidome. Here, a dual-hydrophilic metal-organic framework is developed to selectively capture endogenous glycopeptides in complex biological fluid. The hydrophilic matrix material provides specific selectivity toward glycopeptides, while the deliberate surface regulation using hydrophilic species enhances its interaction with glycopeptides. This hydrophilic probe presents an extremely high performance in anti-interfering enrichment of glycopeptides from mimic complex samples, even when the molar ratio of immunoglobulin G versus bovine serum albumin was up to about 1:5000. More excitingly, in the practical application of glycopeptidome analysis, a total of 380 endogenous N-glycopeptides with 180 unique N-glycopeptide sites were identified from human plasma. This strategy is expected to broaden the application of dual-hydrophilic MOF-based materials, especially in dealing with the challenges of extremely complex biological samples.

Abstract
The highly effective analysis of glycopeptides from complex biological samples is an attractive and critical topic all the time. In this study, a novel thickness-controlled hydrophilic Mg-metal organic frameworks (Mg-MOFs) coating-functionalized magnetic graphene composite (MagG@Mg-MOFs-1C) was prepared for the capture of the glycopeptides. The as-synthesized composite exhibits an ultralow limit of detection (0.1 fmol μL-1), a perfect size-exclusion effect (HRP digests/BSA protein/HRP protein, 1 : 500 : 500, w/w/w), and a high binding capacity (150 mg g-1), satisfying reusability and high recovery in the recognition of glycopeptides due to its outstanding characteristics including strong magnetic property, large surface area (617 m2 g-1), plenty of affinity sites, and excellent hydrophilicity. Furthermore, the MagG@Mg-MOFs-1C composite was successfully applied to selectively enriched glycopeptides in human urine. More excitingly, 406 N-glycosylation peptides corresponding to 185 glycoproteins were identified in the urine of the bladder cancer patients, in which these identified glycoproteins include the potential biomarkers (α-2-macroglobulin, complement C4-B, and α-1-antitrypsin) for the bladder cancer. This study suggests that the hydrophilic porous MOFs-functionalized composite has a great potential in the large-scale characterization of the low-abundance biomolecules in urine, opening a new avenue for the rapid and convenient diagnosis of the disease.

Abstract
Owing to the formidable challenge posed by microheterogeneities in glycosylation sites, macroheterogeneity of the modification number of glycans, and low abundance and ionization efficiency of glycosylation, the crucial premise for conducting in-depth profiling of the glycoproteome is to develop highly efficient technology for separation and enrichment. The appearance of hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) has considerably accelerated the progress in glycoproteomics. In particular, additional hydrophilic nanomaterials have been developed for glycoproteomics research in the recent years. In this review, we mainly summarize the recent progresses made in the design and synthesis of different hydrophilic nanomaterials, as well as their applications in glycoproteomics, according to the classification of the main hydrophilic functional molecules on the surface. Further, we briefly illustrate the potential retention mechanism of the HILIC mode and discuss the limits and barriers of hydrophilic nanomaterials in glycoproteomics, as well as propose their possible development trends in the future.

Abstract
Millions of tons of paper and its derivatives are annually wasted without being recycled and reused. To promote the comprehensive utilization of resources and eco-friendly preparation, waste filter paper, printer paper, and napkins were chosen as carbon sources to one-step synthesize three types of three dimensional (3D) net-like magnetic mesoporous carbon (MMC) by an eco-friendly and low-cost method. These mesoporous (3.90–7.68 nm) composites have a high specific surface area (287–423 m2 g−1), well-developed porosity (0.24–0.74 cm3 g−1) and abundant oxygen-containing functional groups. Compared to the other two composites, the adsorbent derived from filter paper showed the highest adsorption capacity towards methylene blue (MB) (qmax = 332.03 mg g−1) and rhodamine B (RhB) (qmax = 389.59 mg g−1) with a high adsorption rate (<5 min). According to the effect of pH value on adsorption capacity, and combining the analysis of Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the main adsorption mechanisms can be summarized as hydrogen bonds, electrostatic interactions, and π–π interaction. Besides, the occurrence of redox reactions between Fe2+/Fe0 and dye cannot be ignored. Finally, experiments on reusability were performed. They showed that the 3D net-like MMC could be easily regenerated and still maintained a removal efficiency of above 80% for RhB and 90% for MB after five cycles. Millions of tons of paper and its derivatives are annually wasted without being recycled and reused.![]()

Abstract
In this work, we presented a facile elution-free method for ultrasensitive enrichment of glycopeptides using two kinds of novel Ce-metal-organic frameworks (Ce-MOF) post-modified with hyaluronic acid (Ce-MOF@HA) and glutamic acid (Ce-MOF@Glu). Both of the synthesized materials remained stable in the loading buffer to enrich glycopeptides selectively and degrade in the eluent to release captured glycopeptides. Due to the dissolution of materials, the elution step of the enrichment process is omitted, resulting in an extremely high sensitivity (detection limit, 0.5 fmol/μL). Meanwhile, Ce-MOF@HA and Ce-MOF@Glu also possessed excellent selectivity with molar ratios of IgG and BSA digests being 1:1000 and 1:500, respectively. Noticeably, the practical applicability of the obtained materials was inspected by analyzing the glycopeptides enriched from human serum (2 μL) by nano-LC-MS, in which 434 N-glycopeptides from 182 N-glycoproteins (by Ce-MOF@HA) and 328 N-glycopeptides from 135 N-glycoproteins (by Ce-MOF@Glu) were detected, respectively. This work provides a new method to simplify the process of glycopeptides enrichment and also paves a novel way for the enrichment of trace targets from complex matrices.

Abstract
Protein glycosylation plays a critical role in post-translational modifications of proteins in the organism and is involved in many diseases. However, the huge challenge for glycoproteins to be highly specific isolated and adsorbed from complicated biological samples results from their low abundance and interference. In this work, a novel dual-functionalized magnetic metal-organic frameworks nanoparticle for selective enrichment of glycoproteins was synthesized for the first time. Due to the abundant amino groups and grafted phenylboronic acid, the proposed nanoparticles have the dual properties of hydrophilicity and boronic acid affinity. The obtained nanoparticles show high binding capacities toward glycoproteins under physiological state (pH 7.4) such as ovalbumin (327.28 mg/g), transferrin (241.17 mg/g), horseradish peroxidase (530.79 mg/g). Furthermore, the nanoparticles still have excellent enrichment performance after being used six times repeatedly. More importantly, the prepared nanoparticles also have great potential applications in the adsorption of glycoproteins from complex biological specimens.

Abstract
In this study, a Wells–Dawson type K6P2W18O62 polyoxometalate was encapsulated into the magnetic Fe3O4/MIL-101 (Cr) metal–organic framework and applied as a new magnetically recoverable ternary adsorbent to remove organic dyes from aqueous solutions. The as-prepared ternary magnetically recyclable hybrid (denoted as P2W18O62@Fe3O4/MIL-101 (Cr)) was characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, EDX, SEM, BET surface area, and magnetic measurements. The results showed the successful encapsulation of K6P2W18O62 (∼26.5 wt%) into the magnetic Fe3O4/MIL-101 (Cr) framework. The magnetic hybrid had a high specific surface area of 934.89 m2 g−1. The adsorption efficiency of this nanohybrid for the removal of methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (RhB), and methyl orange (MO) from aqueous solutions was evaluated. The magnetic nanohybrid demonstrated the fast and selective adsorption of cationic dyes from mixed dye solutions. The adsorption rate and capacity of P2W18O62@Fe3O4/MIL-101 (Cr) were increased as compared with MIL-101 (Cr), P2W18O62, and Fe3O4/MIL-101 samples due to the increased electrostatic attraction. The effects of parameters such as the adsorbent dosage, temperature, dye concentration, and pH were investigated on the adsorption process. The adsorption kinetics was analyzed by the Freundlich, Langmuir, and Temkin isotherm models and pseudo-second-order and pseudo-first-order kinetics models, with the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic model found to be suitable to describe the equilibrium data. Also, the thermodynamic results of the nanohybrid indicated that the adsorption was an endothermic and spontaneous process. After the adsorption reaction, the magnetic nanohybrid could be easily separated and reused without any change in structure. Based on the results of this study, the nanohybrid was an efficient adsorbent for eliminating cationic dyes. A Wells–Dawson-type K6P2W18O62 polyoxometalate was encapsulated into the magnetic Fe3O4/MIL-101 (Cr) metal–organic framework and applied as a new magnetically recoverable ternary adsorbent to remove organic dyes from aqueous solutions.![]()

Abstract
The magnetic susceptibility of synthesized magnetite (Fe3O4) microspheres was found to decline after the growth of a metal-organic framework (MOF) shell on the magnetite core. Detailed structural analysis of the core-shell particles using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, atom probe tomography, and57Fe-Mössbauer spectroscopy suggests that the distribution of MOF precursors inside the magnetic core resulted in the oxidation of the iron oxide core.

Abstract
The low abundance of glycopeptides in biological samples makes it necessary to enrich them before further analysis. In this study, the polymeric hydrophilic ionic liquid-modified magnetic (Fe3O4@MPS@PMAC) nanoparticles were synthesized via a one-step reflux-precipitation polymerization. Owing to the excellent hydrophilicity and strong electrostatic interaction toward glycopeptides of the polymerized hydrophilic ionic liquid, [2-(methacryloyloxy) ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride (MAC), the synthesized Fe3O4@MPS@PMAC nanoparticles exhibited outstanding performance in glycopeptide enrichment with high detection sensitivity (10 fmol), large binding capacity (100 μg mg-1) and satisfied enrichment recovery (approximately 82%). Furthermore, the newly developed Fe3O4@MPS@PMAC nanoparticles were applied for the glycopeptide enrichment of HeLa exosome proteins. A total of 1274 glycopeptides from 536 glycoproteins were identified in three replicate analyses of 50 μg of HeLa exosome proteins. These results demonstrate the potential of Fe3O4@MPS@PMAC nanoparticles for both glycoproteomic analysis and exosome research.
