Abstract
Preparation of S-aryl thioglycosides from 1-thiosugars via S-arylation was demonstrated under mild reaction conditions. A wide range of protected and unprotected 1-thiosugars derived from glucose, glucosamine, galactose, mannose, ribose, maltose, and lactose underwent cross-coupling reactions with functionalized aryldiazonium salts in the presence of copper(I) chloride and DBU. The desired products were obtained in 55-88% yields within 5 min. Various functional groups, including halogens, were tolerated under standard reaction conditions. Synthesis of the biologically relevant antidiabetic dapagliflozin S-analogue and arbutin S-analogues (tyrosinase inhibitors) was demonstrated.

Abstract
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is responsible for numerous damages when overproduced, and its detection is crucial for a better understanding of H2O2-mediated signaling in physiological and pathological processes. For this purpose, various "off-on" small fluorescent probes relying on a boronate trigger have been prepared, and this design has also been involved in the development of H2O2-activated prodrugs or theranostic tools. However, this design suffers from slow kinetics, preventing activation by H2O2 with a short response time. Therefore, faster H2O2-reactive groups are awaited. To address this issue, we have successfully developed and characterized a prototypic borinic-based fluorescent probe containing a coumarin scaffold. We determined its in vitro kinetic constants toward H2O2-promoted oxidation. We measured 1.9 × 104 m-1⋅s-1 as a second-order rate constant, which is 10,000-fold faster than its well-established boronic counterpart (1.8 m-1⋅s-1). This improved reactivity was also effective in a cellular context, rendering borinic acids an advantageous trigger for H2O2-mediated release of effectors such as fluorescent moieties.

Abstract
Despite many years of invention, the field of carbohydrate chemistry remains rather inaccessible to non-specialists, which limits the scientific impact and reach of the discoveries made in the field. Aiming to increase the availability of stereoselective glycosylation chemistry for non-specialists, we have discovered that several commercially available pyrylium salts catalyze stereoselective O-glycosylations of a wide range of phenols and alkyl alcohols. This catalytic reaction utilizes trichloroacetimidates, an easily accessible and synthetically proven electrophile, takes place under air and only initiates when all three reagents are mixed, which should provide better reproducibility by non-specialists. The reaction exhibits varying degrees of stereospecificity, resulting in β-selective glycosylations from α-trichloroacetimidates, whilst an α-selective glycosylation proceeds from β-trichloroacetimidates. A mechanistic study revealed that the reaction likely proceeds via an SN 2-like substitution on the protonated electrophile.

Abstract
Sulfated carbohydrates have been implicated in diverse biological processes, with the position and extent of sulfation of a glycoside often playing important roles in determining the affinity and specificity of its binding to a biomolecular partner. Methods for the site-selective introduction of sulfate groups to carbohydrates are thus of interest. Here, we describe the development of a diarylborinic acid-catalyzed protocol for selective sulfation of pyranoside derivatives at the equatorial position of a cis-1,2-diol group. This method, which employs the sulfur trioxide-trimethylamine complex as the electrophile, has been employed for installation of a sulfate group at the 3-position of a range of galacto- and mannopyranosides, including substrates having a free primary OH group. By using a full equivalent of the diarylborinic acid, selective syntheses of more complex monosulfated glycosides, namely, a 3'-sulfolactose derivative and 3'-sulfo-β-galactosylceramide, have been accomplished. Preliminary kinetics experiments suggested that the catalyst resting state is a tetracoordinate diarylborinic ester that reacts with the SO3 complex in the turnover-limiting step. Catalyst inhibition by the pyranoside sulfate product and trialkylamine byproduct of the reaction was demonstrated.

Abstract
Alkylative kinetic resolution of vicinal alcohols is realized by a cooperative chiral ammonium borinate catalysis.
Herein, we report the first alkylative kinetic resolution of vicinal alcohols realized by cooperative use of a chiral quaternary ammonium salt and an achiral borinic acid. In addition, a catalytic regioselective alkylation of a secondary alcohol in the presence of an unprotected primary one is presented, emphasizing the unique selectivity and potential of this ammonium borinate catalysis.

Abstract
Pioneering studies by Kuivila, published more than 50 years ago, suggested ipso protonation of the boronate as the mechanism for base-catalyzed protodeboronation of arylboronic acids. However, the study was limited to UV spectrophotometric analysis under acidic conditions, and the aqueous association constants (Ka) were estimated. By means of NMR, stopped-flow IR, and quenched-flow techniques, the kinetics of base-catalyzed protodeboronation of 30 different arylboronic acids has now been determined at pH > 13 in aqueous dioxane at 70 °C. Included in the study are all 20 isomers of C6HnF(5-n)B(OH)2 with half-lives spanning 9 orders of magnitude: <3 ms to 6.5 months. In combination with pH-rate profiles, pKa and ΔS⧧ values, kinetic isotope effects (2H, 10B, 13C), linear free-energy relationships, and density functional theory calculations, we have identified a mechanistic regime involving unimolecular heterolysis of the boronate competing with concerted ipso protonation/C-B cleavage. The relative Lewis acidities of arylboronic acids do not correlate with their protodeboronation rates, especially when ortho substituents are present. Notably, 3,5-dinitrophenylboronic acid is orders of magnitude more stable than tetra- and pentafluorophenylboronic acids but has a similar pKa.
