Abstract
Polylactide synthetic procedures have lately gained attention, possibly due to their biocompatibility and the environmental problems associated with fossil-fuel-based polymers. Polylactides can be obtained from natural sources such as cassava, corn, and sugar beet, and polylactides can be manufactured in a laboratory using a variety of processes that begin with lactic acid or lactide. One of the most effective synthetic pathways is through a Lewis acid catalyzed ring-opening polymerization of lactides to obtain a well-defined polymer. In this regard, calixarenes, because of their easy functionalization and tunable properties, have been widely considered to be a suitable 3D molecular scaffold for new metal complexes that can be used for lactide polymerization. This review summarizes the progress made in applying some metal-calixarene complexes in the ring-opening polymerization of lactide.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of a new octahedral Zr(IV) complex of oxygen-depleted N,O-type calixarene ligand comprising two distal-functionalized pyrazole rings have been reported. The cone shape and structure of the prepared complex were confirmed univocally by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and NMR studies. The Zr metal lies at 2.091 Å from the plane of the calixarene ring. This complex has been utilized as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of Biginelli adducts, bis(indolyl)methanes, and coumarins. This complex (Cl2Zr-calixarene) showed superior activity for these multicomponent reactions in comparison to the corresponding Ti(IV) and Zn(II) analogues. Ferrocene-appended bis(indolyl)methane, prepared using this catalyst, was also evaluated for its anticancer activity against the A-172 cell line.

Abstract
A set of 6- to 24-valent clusters was constructed with terminal deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) inhibitory heads through C6 or C9 linkers by way of Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reactions between mono- or trivalent azido-armed iminosugars and calix[8]arene scaffolds differing in their valency and their rigidity but not in their size. The power of multivalency to upgrade the inhibition potency of the weak DNJ inhibitor (monovalent DNJ Ki being at 322 and 188 µM for C6 or C9 linkers, respectively) was evaluated on the model glycosidase Jack Bean α-mannosidase (JBα-man). Although for the clusters with the shorter C6 linker the rigidity of the scaffold was essential, these parameters had no influence for clusters with C9 chains: all of them showed rather good relative affinity enhancements per inhibitory epitopes between 70 and 160 highlighting the sound combination of the calix[8]arene core and the long alkyl arms. Preliminary docking studies were performed to get insights into the preferred binding modes.

Abstract
The efficient formation of cyclic polyesters from the ring-opening polymerization of lactide, ϵ-caprolactone, and β-butyrolactone catalyzed by a 1,4-dithiabutanedyl-2,2'-bis(4,6-dicumylphenol) [OSSO]-FeCl complex activated with cyclohexene oxide was achieved. The catalyst was very active (initial turnover frequency up to 2718 h-1 ), robust, and worked with a monomer/Fe ratio up to 10 000. The formation of cyclic polymers was supported by using high-resolution matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) MS, and the average ring size (≈5 kDa for cyclic polylactide) independent of the reaction conditions. A monometallic ring-opening polymerization/cyclization mechanism was proposed from the results of a kinetic investigation.

Abstract
Understanding the interactions of the cage molecules with a variety of invited molecules is getting very important. But, the hydrogen bonds can also play a crucial role in the interaction phenomenon. In this work, natural population analysis (NPA), chemical shifts, and atom in molecules (AIM) analysis have been used to identify the role of hydrogen bonds in the stability of CX[n] molecules. According to our calculation, the 13C NMR spectra are also sensitive to the nature of hydrogen bonds. We note that the DFT calculations have reproduced with a very good agreement, the experimentally observed chemical shifts of CX[4].

Abstract
Ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters (lactones, lactides, cyclic carbonates and phosphates) is an effective tool to synthesize biocompatible and biodegradable polymers. Metal complexes effectively catalyze ROP, a remarkable diversity of the ROP mechanisms prompted the use of density functional theory (DFT) methods for simulation and visualization of the ROP pathways. Optimization of the molecular structures of the key reaction intermediates and transition states has allowed to explain the values of catalytic activities and stereocontrol events. DFT computation data sets might be viewed as a sound basis for the design of novel ROP catalysts and cyclic substrates, for the creation of new types of homo- and copolymers with promising properties. In this review, we summarized the results of DFT modeling of coordination ROP of cyclic esters. The importance to understand the difference between initiation and propagation stages, to consider the possibility of polymer-catalyst coordination, to figure out the key transition states, and other aspects of DFT simulation and visualization of ROP have been also discussed in our review.

Abstract
The direct synthesis of syndiotactic polystyrene-block-polyethylene copolymer (sPS-b-PE) with a diblock structure has been achieved. The synthetic strategy consists of the sequential stereocontrolled polymerization of styrene and ethylene in the presence of a single catalytic system: cyclopentadienyltitanium(IV) trichloride activated by modified methylaluminoxane (CpTiCl3/MMAO). The reaction conditions suitable for affording the partially living polymerization of these monomers were identified, and the resulting copolymer, purified from contaminant homopolymers, was fully characterized. Gel permeation chromatography coupled with two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy COSY, HSQC, and DOSY confirmed the block nature of the obtained polymer, whose thermal behaviour and thin film morphology were also investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, powder wide angle x-ray diffraction, and atomic force microscopy.
