Abstract
The design and synthesis of a Gd(III) metal-organic framework with the formula [Gd4(BTDI)3(DMF)4]n (JXUST-40, H4BTDI = 5,5'-(benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole-4,7-diyl)diisophthalic acid) are reported hererin. Interestingly, a reversible single-crystal-to-single-crystal transition between JXUST-40 and {[Gd4(BTDI)3(H2O)4]·6H2O}n (JXUST-40a) was achieved under the stimulation of heat and solvents. Both JXUST-40 and JXUST-40a exhibited good stability when soaked in common solvents and aqueous solutions with pH values of 1-12. Magnetic studies showed that JXUST-40a has a larger magnetocaloric effect with -ΔSmaxm = 26.65 J kg-1 K-1 at 2 K and 7 T than JXUST-40 due to its larger magnetic density. Structural analyses indicated that the coordinated solvent molecules play a crucial role in the coordination environment around the Gd(III) ions and the change in the framework, ultimately leading to the changes in the pore size and magnetism between JXUST-40 and JXUST-40a. In addition, both isomorphic [Dy4(BTDI)3(DMF)4]n (JXUST-41) and {[Dy4(BTDI)3(H2O)4]·6H2O}n (JXUST-41a) displayed slow magnetic relaxation behaviour.

Abstract
The highly luminescent complex [CdQ2(H2O)2] (1) shows ultra-selectivity and high sensitivity to the explosive organo-toxin trinitrophenol (TNP). This detection is extremely fast with a high quenching constant (5.3 × 104 M-1) and a very low limit of detection (LOD) of 137 nM/59 ppb. This motivated us to detect the lethal carcinogenic arsenical drug roxarsone (ROX), which is reported here for the first time. The quenching constant and LOD for ROX using 1 were found to be 4.9 × 104 M-1 and 86 nM (or 37 ppb), respectively. Moreover, the probe also recognizes three lethal toxic oxo-anions (MnO4-, Cr2O72- and CrO42-) with outstanding quenching constant (2.2 × 104 M-1, 1.4 × 104 M-1 and 1.1 × 104 M-1) and very low LODs (141 nM/61 ppb, 178 nM/78 ppb and 219 nM/95 ppb). Compared to the previously reported homogeneous sensing nature of the discrete complexes, our complex showed the detection of toxic pollutants in a heterogeneous manner, which results in high recyclability and hence multi-cycle sensing capability. Interestingly, 1 shows the possibility for real-time monitoring through naked eye detection by visible colorimetric changes in solid, solution and strip paper methods, i.e., triphasic detection ability. In addition, the sensor also exhibited the cross-sensing ability for these pollutants. The experimental sensing mechanism is strongly supported by the exhaustive theoretical investigation. Based on the fluorescence signal shown by each analyte, an integrated AND-OR logic gate is constructed. Furthermore, the sensing ability of 1 remains intact towards the detection of versatile real field samples including lethal carcinogenic arsenical drug roxarsone in the real food sample.

Abstract
Dipicolinic acid (DPA) is an anthrax biomarker. Its serious consequences make its detection a great need. In this paper, three novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different coordination modes were synthesized by a simple solvothermal method, which can be used as highly efficient fluorescence sensors for the highly selective and sensitive trace detection of DPA. MOFs 1-3 showed rapid responses to DPA (<30 s), and the limits of detection (LODs) were calculated to be 1.01 × 10-6 M-1 (MOF 1), 1.17 × 10-6 M-1 (MOF 2) and 2.07 × 10-6 M-1 (MOF 3). DPA detection based on MOFs 1-3 in fetal bovine serum is highly reliable based on the high recovery rates (90% to 115%). Hence, the three MOF-based sensors can be used in the real-time detection of DPA.

Abstract
The new 1D CPs [Zn(L1)(H2O)4]n.nH2O (1) and [Zn(L2)(H2O)2]n (2) [L1 = 1,1′-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis(6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylic acid); L2 = 1,1′-(propane-1,3-diyl)bis(6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylic acid)] were prepared from flexible dicarboxylate pro-ligands (H2L1 and H2L2). Both CPs 1 and 2 were characterized by elemental, FTIR, and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Their geometry and the structural features were unveiled by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The underlying topology of the CPs was illustrated by the topological analysis of the H-bonded structure of CP 1, which revealed a 3,4,6-connected trinodal net. On the other hand, topological analysis on the hydrogen-bonded network of CP 2 showed a 2,3,3,4,6,7-connected hexanodal net. The thermal stability of the CPs was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. CPs 1 and 2 act as heterogeneous catalysts in one-pot tandem deacetalization–Knoevenagel condensation reactions under environmentally mild conditions. CPs 1 exhibits a yield of ca. 91% in a microwave-assisted solvent-free medium, whereas a slightly lower yield was obtained for CP 2 (87%) under the same experimental protocol. The recyclability of catalyst 1 was also assessed. To our knowledge, these are the first Zn(II)-based CPs to be applied as heterogeneous catalysts for the above tandem reactions under environmentally friendly conditions.

Abstract
The aroylhydrazone Schiff bases 2-hydroxy-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)benzohydrazide and (2,3-dihydroxybenzylidene)-2-hydroxybenzohydrazide have been used to synthesize the bi- and tri-nuclear Ni(II) complexes [Ni2(L1)2(MeOH)4] (1) and [Ni3(HL2)2(CH3OH)8]· (NO3)2 (2). Both complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic techniques [IR spectroscopy and electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS)], and single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The coordination behavior of the two ligands is different in the complexes: The ligand exhibits the keto form in 2, while coordination through enol form was found in 1. Herein, the catalytic activity of 1 and 2 has been compared with the nitroaldol condensation reaction under various conditions. Complex 2 exhibits the highest activity towards solvent-free conditions.

Abstract
The reactions of 3,3'-{(pyridine-2,6-dicarbonyl)bis(azanediyl)}dibenzoic acid (H2L) with zinc(II), cadmium(II), and samarium(III) nitrates were studied, and the obtained compounds, [Zn(1κO:2κO'-L)(H2O)2] n (1), [Cd(1κO 2:2κO 2-L)(H2O)2]2 ⋅6n H2O⋅ n C4H8O2 ⋅1.5n DMF (2), and [Sm(1κO:2κO'O'':3κO'''-L)(NO3)(H2O)(dmf)] n ⋅ n DMF (3), were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Compounds 1 and 3 have 1D zigzag- and double-chain-type structures, respectively, whereas 2 features a dinuclear metallomacrocyclic complex. The ligand (L2-) orients in different conformations, that is, syn-syn for 1 and anti-anti for 2 and 3. Compound 1 is the first example in which the syn-syn conformation for this ligand has been observed. These compounds act as heterogeneous catalysts for the nitroaldol (Henry; in water medium) and Knoevenagel condensation reactions of different aldehydes, and the most effective is zinc coordination polymer 1. Recyclability, heterogeneity, and size-selectivity tests were performed, which showed that the catalyst was highly active over at least four recycling runs.

Abstract
A new pentacoordinated Cd(ii)-CP based on a flexible nitrogen donor ligand (L) and a corresponding core–shell magnetic Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2@Cd(ii)-CP hybrid have been synthesized by ultrasonic irradiation. The products can be proposed as good recyclable adsorbents for the selective adsorption of Congo red dye.
