Rare earth metal-organic complexes constructed from hydroxyl and carboxyl modified arenesulfonate: syntheses, structure evolutions, and ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared luminescence

Lanthanide nitrato complexes bridged by the bis-tridentate ligand 2,3,5,6-tetra(2-pyridyl)pyrazine: Syntheses, crystal structures, Hirshfeld surface analyses, luminescence properties, DFT calculations, and magnetic behavior

Six dinuclear lanthanide(III) nitrato complexes [Ln(NO₃)₃(H₂O)]₂(μ-tppz) (where tppz = 2,3,5,6-tetra(2-pyridyl) pyrazine and Ln(III) = Nd (1), Sm (2), Eu (3), Gd (4), Tb (5), and Dy (6)) with bis-tridentate N-heterocyclic 2,3,5,6-tetra(2-pyridyl)pyrazine as bridging ligand have been solvothermally synthesized and characterized via elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and powder X-ray diffraction. The 3-D Hirshfeld surface and 2-D fingerprint plots show that the main interactions in 1-6 are the O⋯H/H⋯O intermolecular interactions with relative contributions of about 62%. Although the poor lanthanide(III)-centered luminescence properties clearly point to the efficiency of nonradiative quenching processes (presence of water molecules in the coordination sphere of the lanthanide(III) ions), the ligand tppz is better suited to sensitize the lanthanide(III)'s emissions of Eu^III and Nd^III than Sm^III, Tb^III, and Dy^III. Finally, the magnetic data of Dy^III comple×6 reveals antiferromagnetic coupling between Dy^III ions.

Recent Advances of Near-Infrared (NIR) Emissive Metal Complexes Bridged by Ligands with N- and/or O-Donor Sites

Near-infrared (NIR) emissive metal complexes have shown potential applications in optical communication, chemosensors, bioimaging, and laser and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) due to their structural tunability and luminescence stability. Among them, complexes with bridging ligands that exhibit unique emission behavior have attracted extensive interests in recent years. The target performance can be easily achieved by NIR light-emitting metal complexes with bridging ligands through molecular structure design. In this review, the luminescence mechanism and design strategies of NIR luminescent metal complexes with bridging ligands are described firstly, and then summarize the recent advance of NIR luminescent metal complexes with bridging ligands in the fields of electroluminescence and biosensing/bioimaging. Finally, the development trend of NIR luminescent metal complexes with bridging ligands are proposed, which shows an attractive prospect in the field of photophysical and photochemical materials.

Solvothermal synthesis and modification of NaYF4:Yb/Er@NaLuF4:Yb for enhanced up-conversion luminescence for bioimaging

Water-soluble NaYF4:Yb/Er@NaLuF4:Yb up-converting nanoparticles (UCNPs) with a strong green emission were successfully prepared by a solvothermal method in a short period of time and at a low temperature. First, the hydrophobic UCNPs were prepared by a simple solvothermal method, then modified using a polyetherimide (PEI) surfactant or oxidation of the oleic acid ligands with the Lemieux-von Rudloff reagent. The modified UCNPs, having an average particle diameter of 60 ± 5 nm, showed a high dispersity. The oleic acid ligand on the sample surface was oxidized azelaic acid (HOOC(CH2)7COOH), identified from Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, which results in the generation of free carboxylic acid, hence conferring a high solubility in water. The 3-4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) method and cell-targeted labeling proved that oleic acid-capped UCNPs after oxidation (UCNPs-OAO) have a higher biocompatibility than polyetherimide-capped UCNPs (UCNPs-PEI). Therefore, the UCNPs-OAO have a great potential in biomedical applications, such as multimodal imaging, targeted therapy, and gene therapy.

Cd(ii) coordination polymers constructed from bis(pyridyl) ligands with an asymmetric spacer in chelating mode and diverse organic dicarboxylates: syntheses, structural evolutions and properties

Thirteen Cd(ii) complexes with diverse chain, (4,4), (6,3), (6³), (6⁵·8), 2-periodic (6,3) layers, and diverse 3D vma, irl, cds, eca nets have been synthesized.

Facile Synthesis of an Organic Solid State Near-Infrared-Emitter with Large Stokes Shift via Excited-State Intramolecular Proton Transfer

An organic solid-state near-infrared (NIR)-emitter (λ_em = 738 nm) exhibiting large Stokes shift (Δλ = 293 nm) through the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer phenomenon has been synthesized and characterized. The present discovery points to the possibility of achieving a new family of solid-state NIR emitters starting from simple aldehyde and amine precursors.

Cooperative effects of metal cations and coordination modes on luminescent s-block metal–organic complexes constructed from V-shaped 4,4′-sulfonyldiphenol

Thirteen s-block metal–organic complexes with different supramolecular networks arising from the coordination modes of the ligands and properties of the metal cations have been synthesized and exhibit violet and blue luminescence in the solid state at room temperature.

Structure evolution and luminescence properties of lithium(i)–sulfonate complexes constructed from multifunctional arenedisulfonic acids

Eight new lithium(i) complexes constructed from multifunctional arenedisulfonic acids have been synthesized. The structural evolution and luminescence properties of these complexes can be attributed to the coordination modes and anion types of ligands.
