Abstract
A new biocomposite of chitosan, chitosan-supported di(pyridine-2-yl)methanone-Ni(II) complex, CS-DPM-Ni, is synthesized for the first time. The biocomposite is thoroughly characterized by FTIR, PXRD, XPS, FESEM, EDX, TGA, ICP-OES, and elemental analysis. The synthesized composite is successfully used as a heterogeneous catalyst in the synthesis of a library of xanthone derivatives by the intermolecular catalytical coupling of 2-substituted benzaldehydes and phenols. The catalyst could be retrieved from the reaction mixture by simple filtration and reused for up to four catalytic cycles. All products were isolated in good to high yields (65-90 %) with good turnover numbers (TONs), and fully characterized by 1H and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopy. The green chemistry metrics values for the reaction were discerned and found to be close to the ideal values.

Abstract
In this work, palladium nanoparticles were synthesized using one-pot synthesis utilizing porcine gastric mucin glycoproteins as reducing and capping agents. It is shown that the particles exhibited noticeable catalytic activity through both nitrophenol reduction and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions. The catalytic performance was demonstrated with exceptionally high product yield, a fast reaction rate, and low catalyst use. The palladium-mucin composites obtained could be used in particle solution and as hydrogel catalysts to increase their reusability for at least ten reaction cycles with minimum loss in their catalytic effectiveness.

Abstract
Although metallic nanocatalysts such as palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) are known to possess higher catalytic activity due to their large surface-to-volume ratio, however, in nanosize greatly reducing their activity due to aggregation. To overcome this challenge, superparamagnetic chitosan-coated manganese ferrite was successfully prepared and used as a support for the immobilization of palladium nanoparticles to overcome the above-mentioned challenge. The Pd-Chit@MnFe2O4 catalyst exhibited high catalytic activity in 4-nitrophenol and 4-nitroaniline reductions, with respective turnover frequencies of 357.1 min-1 and 571.4 min-1, respectively. The catalyst can also be recovered easily by magnetic separation after each reaction. Additionally, the Pd-Chit@MnFe2O4 catalyst performed well in the reductive deprotection of allyl carbamate. Coating the catalyst with chitosan reduced the Pd leaching and its cytotoxicity. Therefore, the catalytic activity of Pd-Chit@MnFe2O4 was proven to be unrestricted in biology conditions.

Abstract
In this contribution, an eco-friendly, sustainable, and efficient palladium nanoparticle-decorated chitosan (Pd@Chitosan) catalyst was synthesized by a simple impregnation method. The synthesized material was utilized as a heterogeneous catalyst for the C-H arylation of benzothiazole under ultrasonic irradiation. The Pd@Chitosan catalyst efficiently catalyzed the conversion of aryl iodides and bromides to 1-(4-(benzothiazol-2-yl)phenyl)ethan-1-one selectively. A single product of 83–93% yield was obtained in N,N-dimethylformamide solvent at 80 °C for 2.5h. This study reveals that Pd@Chitosan is an efficient catalyst, which catalyzes the C-H arylation with good reaction yields. The activity of the Pd@Chitosan is due to the presence of highly dispersed Pd(0) nanoparticles on the surface of the chitosan and Pd2+; a tentative mechanism was proposed based on the XPS results of the fresh catalyst and spent catalyst.

Abstract
In this study, a novel catalyst is introduced based on the immobilization of palladium onto dipyrido (3,2-a:2′,3′-c) phenazine–modified mesoporous silica nanoparticles. The dipyrido (3,2-a:2′,3′-c) phenazine (Py2PZ) ligand is synthesized in a simple method from the reaction of 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione and 3,4-diaminobenzoic acid as starting materials. The ligand is used to functionalize mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) and modify their surface chemistry for the immobilization of palladium. The palladium-immobilized dipyrido (3,2-a:2′,3′-c) phenazine–modified mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Pd@Py2PZ@MSNs) are synthesized and characterized by several characterization techniques, including TEM, SEM, FT-IR, TGA, ICP, XRD, and EDS analyses. After the careful characterization of Pd@Py2PZ@MSNs, the activity and efficiency of this catalyst is examined in carbon–carbon bond formation reactions. The results are advantageous in water and the products are obtained in high isolated yields. In addition, the catalyst showed very good reusability and did not show significant loss in activity after 10 sequential runs.

Abstract
A new composite, cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6])-supported magnetic nanoparticles, Fe3O4-CB[6], was synthesized via a co-precipitation method in air and fully characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, and vibrating sample magnetometry techniques. It has been found to be a highly efficient, economic, and sustainable heterogeneous catalyst and has been employed for the first time for the synthesis of a series of biologically important 2-substituted benzimidazoles from various benzyl alcohols and 1,2-diaminobenzenes under solvent-free conditions via acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling to afford the corresponding products in good to excellent yields (68-94%). The magnetic nature of the nanocomposite facilitates the facile recovery of the catalyst from the reaction mixture by an external magnet. The catalyst can be reused up to five times with negligible loss in its catalytic activity. All the isolated products were characterized by 1H and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopy.

Abstract
Heck cross-coupling reaction (HCR) is one of the few transition metal catalyzed CC bond-forming reactions, which has been considered as the most effective, direct, and atom economical synthetic method using various catalytic systems. Heck reaction is widely employed in numerous syntheses including preparation of pharmaceutical and biologically active compounds, agrochemicals, natural products, fine chemicals, etc. Commonly, Pd-based catalysts have been used in HCR. In recent decades, the application of biopolymers as natural and effective supports has received attention due to their being cost effective, abundance, and non-toxicity. In fact, recent studies demonstrated that biopolymer-based catalysts had high sorption capacities, chelating activities, versatility, and stability, which make them potentially applicable as green materials (supports) in HCR. These catalytic systems present high stability and recyclability after several cycles of reaction. This review aims at providing an overview of the current progresses made towards the application of various polysaccharide and gelatin-supported metal catalysts in HCR in recent years. Natural polymers such as starch, gum, pectin, chitin, chitosan, cellulose, alginate and gelatin have been used as natural supports for metal-based catalysts in HCR. Diverse aspects of the reactions, different methods of preparation and application of polysaccharide and gelatin-based catalysts and their reusability have been reviewed.

Abstract
Here, we report a one-pot solvothermal method for the development of magnetically recoverable catalysts with Ru or Ag nanoparticles (NPs) capped by chitosan (CS), a derivative of natural chitin. The formation of iron oxide NPs was carried out in situ in the presence of CS and iron acetylacetonate in boiling triethyleneglycol (TEG) due to CS solubilization in warm TEG. Coordination with Ru or Ag species and the NP formation take place in the same reaction solution, eliminating intermediate steps. In optimal conditions the method developed allows stabilization of 2.2 nm monodisperse Ru NPs (containing both Ru0 and Ru4+ species) that are evenly distributed through the catalyst, while for Ag NPs, this stabilizing medium is inferior, leading to exceptionally large Ag nanocrystals. Catalytic testing of CS-Ru magnetically recoverable catalysts in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol with excess NaBH4 revealed that the catalyst with 2.2 nm Ru NPs exhibits the highest catalytic activity compared to samples with larger Ru NPs (2.9-3.2 nm). Moreover, this catalyst displayed extraordinary shelf-life in the aqueous solution (up to ten months) and excellent reusability in ten consecutive reactions with easy magnetic separation at each step which were assigned to its conformational rigidity at a constant pH. These characteristics as well as favorable environmental factors of the catalyst fabrication, make it promising for nitroarene reduction.

Abstract
This work describes the preparation of palladium-based catalyst supported on magnetic chitosan (Pd@IO-Chitosan) for Suzuki Miyaura C-C coupling reaction. The Pd@IO-Chitosan catalyst was characterized using different spectroscopic and microscopic techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscope (TEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) Spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Pd@IO-Chitosan was further analysed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in order to determine its thermal behavior. The catalyst comprised Pd, PdO species stabilised by chitosan that facilitated Suzuki coupling reactions. Palladium loading as low as 0.0055 mol% was found to be effective for aqueous Suzuki cross-couplings with excellent yields of over 99%. The catalyst could be recycled and reused at least 12 times with no significant decrease in its catalytic activity.

Abstract
This study reports the synthesis and characterization of a highly active catalyst based on chelated copper iodide on magnetic chitosan-salicylaldehyde Schiff base. This catalyst was successfully used for the three-component reaction of N-propargylphthalimide, tosylazide, and NH or OH containing nucleophiles to access new classes of N-sulfonylamidine or N-sulfonylimidate derivatives. The products, which were constructed via an in situ generated sulfonyl keteneimine intermediate, were obtained in good to excellent yields. Short reaction times, easy separation and reusability without significant loss of catalyst activity were found to be the notable features of this synthetic protocol.

Abstract
Biopolymers have become very attractive as they are degradable, biocompatible, non-toxic and renewable. Due to the intrinsic reactive amino groups, chitosan is vibrant in the midst of other biopolymers. Using the versatility of these amino groups, various structural modifications have been accomplished on chitosan through certain chemical reactions. Chemical modification of chitosan via imine functionalization (RR'CNR″; R: alkyl/aryl, R': H/alkyl/aryl and R″: chitosan ring) is significant as it recommends the resultant chitosan-based Schiff bases (CSBs) for the important applications in the fields like biology, catalysis, sensors, water treatment, etc. CSBs are usually synthesized by the Schiff condensation reaction between chitosan's amino groups and carbonyl compounds with the removal of water molecules. In this review, we first introduce the available synthetic approaches for the preparation of CSBs. Then, we discuss the biological applications of CSBs including antimicrobial activity, anticancer activity, drug carrier ability, antioxidant activity and tissue engineering capacity. Successively, the applications of CSBs in other fields such as catalysis, adsorption and sensors are demonstrated.

Abstract
Potassium copper hexacyanoferrate (KCuHCF)-incorporated magnetic chitosan beads (HMC) were synthesized for both selective Cs+ removal in aqueous solutions and facile recovery of the spent adsorbent. To disperse and immobilize large amounts of the KCuHCF, methyl acrylate and diethylenetriamine were sequentially grafted onto the one-step synthesized magnetic chitosan beads. The additional introduction of amino functionality led to the enriched Cu2+ ions on the bead surface to incorporate KCuHCF into the grafting matrix. Consequently, the HMC exhibited a high Cs+ capacity calculated to be 136.47 mg g−1 from the Langmuir model, and the equilibrium was established within 4 h. Moreover, the HMC exhibited excellent stability in a wide pH range from 4 to 11 and an outstanding Cs+ selectivity (>97%) in seawater (1.11 mg L−1 Cs+). From a practical point of view, the HMC was stable during five successive adsorption cycles and easily recovered by magnets, enabling continuous operation to decontaminate a large volume of wastewater. The magnetic chitosan beads were amino-functionalized by grafting and showed an outstanding removal performance for radioactive Cs+.![]()
