Abstract
In this study, a new palladium nanocatalyst was supported on l-threonine functionalized magnetic mesocellular silica foams (MMCF@Thr-Pd) and was characterized by FT-IR, XRD, BET, SEM, EDS, VSM, TGA, ICP-OES and elemental mapping techniques. The obtained MMCF@Thr-Pd performance can show excellent catalytic activity for Stille, Suzuki, and Heck coupling reactions, and the corresponding products were obtained with high yields. More importantly, the efficient and stable MMCF@Thr-Pd nanocatalyst was recovered by applying an external magnetic field and reused for at least five consecutive runs without a change in the catalytic activity.

Abstract
This paper describes the synthesis, and structural and spectroscopic characterizations of two doubly bridged dicopper(II) complexes, [Cu2(μ-H2L)(μ-OMe)](ClO4)4·2H2O (1) and [Cu2(μ-L)(μ-OH)](ClO4)2 (2), with a binucleating ligand (HL) derived from the Schiff base condensation of DFMP and N,N-dimethyldipropylenetriamine, and their biomimetic catalytic activities were related to CAO and phenoxazinone synthase using 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol and o-aminophenol (OAPH), respectively, as model substrates. Structural studies reveal that the major differences in these structures appear to be from the distinct roles of the tertiary amine groups of the ligands, which are protonated in 1, whereas it coordinates the metal centers in 2. Magnetic studies disclose that two copper(II) centers are strongly antiferromagnetically coupled with slightly different J values, which is further interpreted and discussed. They exhibited very different biomimetic catalytic activities; whereas 2 is an efficient catalyst, complex 1 showed somewhat lower substrate oxidation. The higher reactivity in 2 is rationalized by the strong involvement of the tertiary amine group of the Schiff base ligand, where the substrate oxidation is favored because of the transfer of protons from the substrate to the tertiary amine group, showing the importance of the functional groups in proximity to the bimetallic active site. Emphasis was also given to probing the binding mode of the substrate using an electronically deficient tetrabromomocatechol (Br4CatH2) and the isolated compound [Cu6(μ-HL)2(μ-OH)2(Br4Cat)4](NO3)2·4H2O (3) which suggests that monodentate asymmetric binding of 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol and OAPH occurs during the course of the catalytic reaction.

Abstract
In this work, an anchored Pd complex (PGS–APTES–Pd(OAc)2) was prepared via simple and green steps from the natural clay mineral palygorskite and was well characterized by XPS, XRD, IR, SEM, and EDX. This complex was further utilized as a fine catalyst for the C–C/C–N coupling reactions of pyrimidin-2-yl sulfonates. Subsequently, the cyclic utilization test indicated the high stability and sustainability of this PGS–APTES–Pd(OAc)2 catalyst, and no activation was required in the recycling process, providing an applicable and reusable catalyst in organic synthesis. PGS–APTES–Pd(OAc)2 was prepared through simple and green steps from the natural clay mineral palygorskite. Obviously, the stability and reusability of PGS–APTES–Pd(OAc)2 were superior to those of the PGS–Pd catalyst (prepared by the impregnation method) in recycling test.![]()

Abstract
Copper(II) nitrate complexes of 2-(((2-((2-aminoethyl)amino)ethyl)imino)methyl)phenol, 2-(((2-((2-aminoethyl)amino)ethyl)imino)methyl)-4,6-dichlorophenol, 2-(((2-(piperazin-1-yl)ethyl)imino)methyl)phenol and (2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-(((2-(piperazin-1-yl)ethyl)imino)methyl)phenol, as well as a copper(II) acetate complex of 2-(((2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethyl)imino)methyl)phenol, have been prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction studies. In combination with benzyl alcohol, all complexes are active in rac-lactide polymerization at 140 °C in molten monomer to provide moderately heterotactic polylactic acid. Most complexes showed complicated reaction kinetics, indicative of two interconverting active species. Molecular weight control was poor and a strong tendency toward intramolecular transesterification led to oligomeric products. There was no indication that the basic site of the ligand is participating in the polymerization reaction by deprotonation of the alcohol nucleophile.

Abstract
The catechol functional group plays a major role in the chemistry of a wide variety of molecules important in biology and technology. In eumelanin, intermolecular hydrogen bonding between these functional groups is thought to contribute to UV photoprotective and radical buffering properties, but the mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, aggregates of 4-t-butylcatechol are used as model systems to study how intermolecular hydrogen bonding influences photochemical pathways that may occur in eumelanin. Ultrafast UV-visible and mid-IR transient absorption measurements are used to identify the photochemical processes of 4-t-butylcatechol monomers and their hydrogen-bonded aggregates in cyclohexane solution. Monomer photoexcitation results in hydrogen atom ejection to the solvent via homolytic O-H bond dissociation with a time constant of 12 ps, producing a neutral semiquinone radical with a lifetime greater than 1 ns. In contrast, intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions within aggregates retard O-H bond photodissociation by over an order of magnitude in time. Excited state structural relaxation is proposed to slow O-H dissociation, allowing internal conversion to the ground state to occur in hundreds of picoseconds in competition with this channel. The semiquinone radicals formed in the aggregates exhibit spectral broadening of both their electronic and vibrational transitions.
