Abstract
From the chiral Schiff base tridentate ligand LPh, unusual acetonitrile-bridged dinuclear palladium complex 1 and organopalladium complex 1' were synthesized selectively by using acetonitrile and ethanol, respectively. The chiral tridentate Schiff base ligand was bound to the palladium metal center with different chelation modes ([ONO] for 1 and [CNO] for 1'). Complex 1 constitutes the first example of dinuclear metal complexes connected only by a bridging acetonitrile, in which an exceptionally short C≡N bond distance [0.945(12) Å] of bridged acetonitrile was observed. To study the influence of a phenyl group attached to an imine, the phenyl-free ligand LH was prepared and used. In that case, an acetonitrile bridge was not observed. Theoretical calculation studies supporting the formation of 1 and 1' are favored.

Abstract
Phthalate esters (PAEs) are a type of persistent organic pollutants and have received widespread concerns due to their adverse effects on human health. Dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP) and its metabolite monocyclohexyl phthalate (MCHP) were selected to explore the mechanism for interaction of PAEs with human serum albumin (HSA) through molecular docking and several spectroscopic techniques. The results showed that DCHP/MCHP can spontaneously occupy site I to form a binary complex with HSA, and DCHP exhibited higher binding affinity to HSA than MCHP. At 298 K, the binding constants (Kb) of DCHP and MCHP to HSA were 24.82 × 104 and 1.04 × 104 M-1, respectively. Hydrogen bonds and van der Waals forces were the major driving forces in DCHP/MCHP-HSA complex. The presence of DCHP/MCHP induced the secondary structure changes in HSA, and the pi electrons of the benzene ring skeleton of DCHP/MCHP played a key role in this binding processes. Exposure of DCHP/MCHP to TM4 cells revealed that interactions between PAEs and serum albumin can affect their cytotoxicity; DCHP showed higher toxicity than MCHP. The binding affinity of PAEs with HSA may be a valuable parameter for rapid assessment of their toxicity to organisms.

Abstract
The interaction between mefloquine (MEF), the antimalarial drug, and human serum albumin (HSA), the main carrier protein in blood circulation, was explored using fluorescence, absorption, and circular dichroism spectroscopic techniques. Quenching of HSA fluorescence with MEF was characterized as static quenching and thus confirmed the complex formation between MEF and HSA. Association constant values for MEF-HSA interaction were found to fall within the range of 3.79-5.73 × 104 M-1 at various temperatures (288, 298, and 308 K), which revealed moderate binding affinity. Hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions were predicted to connect MEF and HSA together in the MEF-HSA complex, as deduced from the thermodynamic data (ΔS = +133.52 J mol-1 K-1 and ΔH = +13.09 kJ mol-1 ) of the binding reaction and molecular docking analysis. Three-dimensional fluorescence spectral analysis pointed out alterations in the microenvironment around aromatic amino acid (tryptophan and tyrosine) residues of HSA consequent to the addition of MEF. Circular dichroic spectra of HSA in the wavelength ranges of 200-250 and 250-300 nm hinted smaller changes in the protein's secondary and tertiary structures, respectively, induced by MEF binding. Noncovalent conjugation of MEF to HSA bettered protein thermostability. Site marker competitive drug displacement results suggested HSA Sudlow's site I as the MEF binding site, which was also supported by molecular docking analysis.

Abstract
A family of organonickel complexes has been prepared, fully characterized, and tested for their antiproliferative activity against estrogen-responsive human breast cancer cells (MCF7). The three SCS-type pincer ligands HL1, HL2, and HL3 and their corresponding Ni(ii) complexes NiL1, NiL2, and NiL3 have been synthesized and fully characterized, including by single crystal diffraction studies for the complexes. The complexes possess square planar geometry with two symmetrical 5-membered nickellacycles. Fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism measurements, molecular modeling, colorimetric based assay and tumor transplantation studies were used to evaluate the protein binding and antiproliferative activities of these organometallic complexes both in vitro and in vivo. Fluorescence quenching was used to investigate bovine serum albumin (BSA) interaction at different temperatures (293, 303 and 313 K), and the results were analyzed using the classical Stern-Volmer equation, allowing us to propose a dynamic quenching mechanism. Studies in vitro on the antiproliferative activity of the three organonickel complexes against estrogen-responsive human breast cancer cells (MCF7) showed promising antitumor activity for NiL1 containing pyrrolidine fragments. In vivo administration of this compound significantly inhibits tumor growth in estrogen-dependent MC4L2 cancer cells in female BALB/c mice.
