A critical review on application of organic, inorganic and hybrid nanophotocatalytic assemblies for photocatalysis of methyl orange dye in aqueous medium

Methyl orange (MO) is a highly carcinogenic and harmful contaminant, which has been extensively reported for its detrimental impact on human and aquatic life. The photodegradation of MO into less toxic products has gained much attention over the past few decades. Herein we have reviewed the recent advancement in designing of nanomaterials (NMs) stabilized on different fabricating assemblies and their application in photocatalysis of MO dye. These photocatalytic systems possess various advantages and disadvantages. Graphene-based supported materials on different NMs are highly reported photocatalysts for photocatalysis of MO dye. Recent advancement, parameters affecting photocatalytic studies, kinetics and photocatalytic mechanism of MO have been thoroughly explained in this review. Future outcomes are also provided for extending the development of scientific research in this field.

Separation and remediation of environmental pollutants using metal-organic framework-based tailored materials

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a polymer hybrid family of compounds comprising metal ions that have been deliberately incorporated in organic ligands to form several multi-dimensional structures with unique structural and functional attributes. They have the typical properties of brittleness, major porosity, and randomly crystalline. These three factors hampered their potential incorporation into modern technologies. However, with the discovery of their polymers, hope was rekindled. Polymers, unlike their counterparts, are versatile and malleable and can be tailored into solids with a wide range of technical applications. MOFs can be effectively incorporated into polymer structures, resulting in polymers with enhanced properties and increased demand, according to recent studies. This review focuses on the synthetic procedures of MOFs used to create hybrid materials, as well as their potential environmentally related applications. Desalination, hazardous heavy metal removal and mitigation, gas and liquid separations and purifications, and dye removal will all be extensively discussed as applications. To assemble this review, we will add insight from recent papers and discoveries, as well as seminal reports from experts on the advancement of MOF-polymers.

Syntheses, design strategies, and photocatalytic charge dynamics of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs): a catalyzed photo-degradation approach towards organic dyes

The presented review focuses on design strategies to develop tailor-made MOFs/CPs of main group, transition and inner-transition elements and their photocatalytic properties to decompose dyes in wastewater discharge and their photocatalytic mechanism.

Efficient dye removal and separation based on graphene oxide nanomaterials

Different graphene-based nanomaterials were synthesized and tested for dye removal, showing that graphene oxide demonstrates high capability for the separation of cationic and anionic dyes.

Template effect of innocent and coordinating anions on the formation of interpenetrated 2D and 3D networks: methyl orange and iodine sorption studies

A pyridyl based Schiff base resulted in a 2D staircase network (CP1) with Cd(ii) when ClO₄⁻ is the counter anion while the use of benzene-1,3-disulphonate counter anion resulted in a novel 3D Cd(ii) coordination polymer with threefold interpenetration (CP2).

Synthesis of CdSe/ZnS@HPU-2 composites for highly sensitive and multicolor florescence response to Fe3+

A composite material based dual-emission probe for Fe3+ was prepared by the hybridization of a three-dimensional framework with CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs)-doped silica nanoparticles. The obtained probe showed characteristic fluorescence emissions of CdSe/ZnS QDs (red) and Cd-metal-organic framework (MOF, blue) under a single exciation wavelength. Upon the detection of Fe3+, only the fluorescence of Cd-MOF was quenched, whereas the red fluorescence of CdSe/ZnS QDs particles was mostly reserved. Consequently, the variation of the two fluorescence intensity ratios displays a continuous color change from blue to red upon exposure to different amounts of Fe3+ ions, which can be easily observed under a UV lamp.
