Abstract
The high-performance determination of heavy metal ions (Cd2+) in water sources is significant for the protection of public health and safety. We have developed a novel sensor of nanograss boron and nitrogen co-doped diamond (NGBND) to detect Cd2+ using a simple method without any masks or reactive ion etching. The NGBND electrode is constructed based on the co-doped diamond growth mode and the removal of the non-diamond carbon (NDC) from the NGBND/NDC composite. Both the enlarged surface area and enhanced electrochemical performance of the NGBND film are achievable. Scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) were used to characterize the NGBND electrodes. Furthermore, we used a finite element numerical method to research the current density near the tip of NGBND. The NGBND sensor exhibits significant advantages for detecting trace Cd2+ via DPASV. A broad linear range of 1 to 100 μg L-1 with a low detection limit of 0.28 μg L-1 was achieved. The successful application of this Cd2+ sensor indicates considerable promise for the sensitive detection of heavy metal ions.

Abstract
A novel and efficient Graphene Oxide-Polyethylene Glycol mono-4-nonylphenyl Ether (GO-PEGPE) nanocomposite was synthesized and used for solid phase extraction of trace levels of Pb2+ in different water and blood samples. The synthesized adsorbent was then characterized by the Fourier Transform-Infrared spectrophotometry (FT-IR), Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). To optimize the critical parameters including pH of samples solution, amounts of adsorbent and extraction time, the response surface methodology based on the central composite design (RSM-CCD) was used and based on the results, pH = 6.0, extraction time = 22 min and amounts of adsorbent = 15 mg were selected as the optimum conditions. The relative standard deviation based on seven replicate analysis of 2 µg L-1 Pb2+ was 5.2% and the limit of detection was 0.023 µg L-1 (n = 8). The results of adsorption isotherm investigation show that the adsorption of Pb2+ onto the GO-PEGPE nanocomposite obeyed by the Langmuir isotherm with the maximum adsorption capacity of 69.44 mg g-1. Also, based on the Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich (DR) isotherms, the adsorption of Pb2+ onto the GO-PEGPE nanocomposite is a physisorption phenomenon and the consequences of the kinetic models illustrated that the adsorption of Pb2+ followed by the pseudo second order adsorption kinetic model. Finally, the proposed method was successfully applied for preconcentration of Pb2+ in different water and blood samples of turning industry workers.

Abstract
A novel adsorbent consisting of tannic acid (TA) immobilized on graphene oxide (GO) was proposed and used to remove Hg2+ from desulfurization wastewater. The morphology and physicochemical properties of tannin-immobilized graphene oxide (TAIGO) were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The characterization results showed that TA was successfully immobilized on GO, and that new functional groups were introduced on TAIGO. The effects of contact time, adsorbent dose, pH, and ion components on removal efficiency were evaluated. The adsorption process was found to be complete within 15 min, and the removal efficiency increased with increasing adsorbent dosage. The pH value affected the protonation of TAIGO and the form of Hg2+ in wastewater. High concentrations of Cl- and SO32- hindered the adsorption performance, whereas SO42- and cations had a negligible effect. In addition, the excellent economic benefits of TAIGO were analyzed in an economic evaluation, and the Hg2+ removal efficiency remained at 88% after three recycles. A pseudo-second-order kinetic model (R = 0.9995) was used to fit the adsorption process, and the oxygen-containing functional groups and chelation reaction played critical roles in adsorption. TAIGO is a low-cost adsorbent with high Hg2+ removal efficiency and could be further used in practical desulfurization wastewater.

Abstract
For the first time, in this study, two novel glycogen-graphene oxide/halloysite nanotubes (GO-Gly/HNTs) and guar gum-graphene oxide/halloysite nanotubes (GO-GG/HNTs) nanocomposites were synthesized as the adsorbents for removal of Pb(II) from water, and the ionic liquid was used in the synthesis as a green solvent. According to the SEM, TEM, EDS, BET, zeta potential, FTIR, and XRD results, GO-Gly/HNTs and GO-GG/HNTs were synthesized successfully. Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to optimize the experimental conditions. Nanocomposites followed the Langmuir equilibrium model and were best fitted to the pseudo-second-order model. According to the thermodynamic model, the adsorption process was endothermic. Due to several features, these two novel nanocomposites can be considered the proper candidate for Pb(II) removal from water and wastewater. First, these nanocomposites have good adsorption capacity for Pb(II) removal, which is 219 mg/g for GO-Gly/HNTs and 315 mg/g for GO-GG/HNTs. Moreover, nanocomposites can be recycled with proper adsorption capacity after four repeated cycles. These materials can be used to remove Pb(II) from water in the presence of other contaminants because nanocomposites have selective tendency toward Pb(II) in the presence of other pollutants such as Cd2+, Cu2+, Cr2+, and Co2+. In addition, the presence of Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, and K+ improve Pb(II) removal. Finally, possible mechanisms for each nanocomposite were represented.

Abstract
An efficient sorbent based on 2,3-dimercapto-1-propanol immobilized on multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs@DMP) was developed for separation/speciation of organic and inorganic lead (alkyl-Pb, Pb2+) in human blood, urine, and water samples by dispersive ionic liquid-suspension-micro-solid phase extraction (DIL-S-μ-SPE). By procedure, the MWCNTs@DMP as solid phase, acetone, and ionic liquid (IL, [HMIM][PF6]) were mixed and injected to 10 mL of the liquid phase at pH = 6.5. After shaking, the Pb(II) was extracted in MWCNTs@DMP and settled down in a conical tube with IL by centrifuging (Pb2+→: SH-SiO2@CNTs). The lead (Pb2+) was back-extracted from sorbent/IL in acidic pH and measured by atom trap atomic absorption spectrometry (AT-AAS). In addition, the organic lead (R-Pb, alkyl lead) converted to Pb(II) and total lead (T-Pb) was determined in the same conditions by UV radiation in 95 °C. Under the optimal conditions, the linear range (9.5-480 μg L-1), LOD (3.2 μg L-1), and enrichment factor (10.4) were obtained (RSD < 5%). The adsorption capacity of the MWCNTs@DMP and MWCNTs was achieved as 191.6 mg g-1 and 25.8 mg g-1, respectively. The method was validated by standard reference materials (SRM 1643d, SRM 955, and SRM 2668), ET-AAS, and ICP-MS analysis in real samples. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
In this paper, folic acid-coated graphene oxide nanocomposite (FA-GO) is used as an adsorbent for the treatment of heavy metals including cadmium (Cd2+) and copper (Cu2+) ions. As such, graphene oxide (GO) is modified by folic acid (FA) to synthesize FA-GO nanocomposite and characterized by the atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectrophotometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and C/H/N elemental analyses. Also, computational intelligence tests are used to study the mechanism of the interaction of FA molecules with GO. Based on the results, FA molecules formed a strong π-π stacking, chemical, and hydrogen bond interactions with functional groups of GO. Main parameters including pH of the sample solution, amounts of adsorbent, and contact time are studied and optimized by the Response Surface Methodology Based on Central Composite Design (RSM-CCD). In this study, the equilibrium of adsorption is appraised by two (Langmuir and Freundlich and Temkin and D-R models) and three parameter (Sips, Toth, and Khan models) isotherms. Based on the two parameter evaluations, Langmuir and Freundlich models have high accuracy according to the R2 coefficient (more than 0.9) in experimental curve fittings of each pollutant adsorption. But, multilayer adsorption of each contaminant onto the FA-GO adsorbent (Freundlich equation) is demonstrated by three parameter isotherm analysis. Also, isotherm calculations express maximum computational adsorption capacities of 103.1 and 116.3 mg g-1 for Cd2+ and Cu2+ ions, correspondingly. Kinetic models are scrutinized and the outcomes depict the adsorption of both Cd2+ and Cu2+ followed by the pseudo-second-order equation. Meanwhile, the results of the geometric model illustrate that the variation of adsorption and desorption rates do not have any interfering during the adsorption process. Finally, thermodynamic studies show that the adsorption of Cu2+ and Cd2+ onto the FA-GO nanocomposite is an endothermic and spontaneous process.

Abstract
In recent years, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have become a group of major pollutants that endanger human health and the ecological environment. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the gas-phase adsorption processes of benzene and toluene, which are important VOCs, on the activated carbon (AC) produced from Elaeagnus angustifolia seeds by physical activation method. In this context, the central composite design (CCD) approach-based response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to examine and optimize the effects of process parameters on the adsorption of benzene and toluene by AC adsorbent. The characterization of the produced AC was performed by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The optimum process parameters were achieved (adsorption time of 74.98 min, initial benzene concentration of 16.68 ppm, and temperature of 26.97 °C, and adsorption time of 73.26 min, initial toluene concentration of 18.46 ppm and temperature of 29.80 °C) for benzene and toluene, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacities of benzene and toluene on AC were determined to be 437.36 and 512.03 mg/g, respectively, under optimum parameters. The adsorption process kinetics and equilibrium isotherms were also evaluated. Besides, AC reusability studies were performed five times for the gas-phase adsorption and desorption of benzene and toluene. After five cycles, it was observed that the benzene and toluene adsorption capacity of the AC decreased slightly by 8.10% and 7.42%, respectively. The results revealed that the produced AC could be utilized successfully for the removal of benzene and toluene in the gas-phase adsorption systems because of its high surface area, high adsorption capacity, and high reusability performance. Furthermore, the adsorption processes of benzene and toluene were investigated, both sole components and in a binary mixture. It was concluded that the adsorption behaviors of benzene and toluene against AC were quite different when they were in the competition (in a binary mixture) and without competition (sole components). Abstract
In this study, a novel magnetic composite (Fe3O4@CS/GO/Ag) modified with chitosan (CS), graphene oxide (GO) and Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) was successfully prepared as an efficient adsorbent for detection of rhodamine B (RB) combined with a fluorescence technique. The properties of the magnetic composite were confirmed by field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry. The components of Fe3O4@CS/GO/Ag endowed it with excellent extraction performance and convenient operation. The main parameters affecting extraction and desorption efficiency were all investigated systematically. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the proposed method showed linear ranges (0.2–6.0 μg L−1) with R2 = 0.9992. The limits of detection (LODs) and quantification (LOQs) were 0.05 and 0.2 μg L−1 (n = 3), respectively. Fe3O4@CS/GO/Ag exhibited outstanding extraction efficiency for RB, compared with CS-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4@CS) and GO-modified Fe3O4@CS (Fe3O4@CS/GO). The applicability of the proposed method was investigated by analyzing four real samples (waste water, soft drink, shampoo, and red pencil) and the spiked recoveries ranged between 94% and 97% with RSD ranging from 3% to 6%, which showed that the proposed method had satisfactory practicability and operability. A novel magnetic composite modified with chitosan, graphene oxide and Ag nanoparticles, was successfully prepared as an efficient adsorbent for detection of rhodamine B combining with fluorescence technique.![]()

Abstract
A novel and green deep eutectic solvent based liquid phase microextraction (DES-LPME) methodology has been proposed for the assessment of rhodamine B from cosmetic products and water samples. A deep eutectic solvent (DES) consist of tetrabutyl ammonium chloride-decanoic acid (1:2) as extraction solvent and tetrahydrofuran as emulsification agent were used for the microextraction of rhodamine B. The quantitative recoveries were achieved at pH 3 by using 0.3 mL of DES and 0.3 mL of THF. The rhodamine B concentration in last volume was analyzed by mirco-cuvette UV-VIS spectrophotometer at 550 nm. The limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), preconcentration factor (PF) and relative standard deviation (RSD %) were found as 2.2 μg L-1, 7.3 μg L-1, 25 and 2.3%, respectively. Accuracy and validity of the developed method was verified by addition-recovery studies for water and cosmetic samples.
