Exploring amine-rich supramolecular silver(I) metallogels for autonomous self-healing and as catalysts for a three component coupling reaction

A series of Ag(I) supramolecular organo-aqueous gels have been synthesized in the presence of an amine-rich triazole ligand as a gelator. Judicious choice of the triazole derivative and counter anion allows a desired spatial orientation of the pendant amine functionality to accentuate the gelation ability and autonomous self-healability via hydrogen bonding. In addition, the hydrogen bond donors, i.e. pendant -NH2 groups, offer a critical proximity of counter anions to the Lewis acidic Ag(I) and the reactants for promoting a three component coupling reaction of an aldehyde, a terminal alkyne and an amine, giving expedient access to propargyl amines, with remarkable functional group tolerance for both aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes, and aryl acetylenes. Experiments substantiate the pivotal role of counter anions and H-bonding interactions in the observed preference for propargylamines over the diacetylene by-product. Our catalyst is robust, bench-stable, and recyclable, and demonstrates a catalytic efficiency comparable to or better than those of reported systems. The catalyst was found equally effective for the gram-scale synthesis of propargylamines. Our approach lies at the intersection of metal-based, H-bond-mediated counter anion-tuned catalysis, evincing a potential for the development of purpose-built supramolecular gels for desired catalytic applications in the future.

OXA-CuS@UiO-66-NH2 as a drug delivery system for Oxaliplatin to colorectal cancer cells

In this work, UiO-66-NH₂ was used to prepare a new delivery system by incorporating copper sulfide (CuS) into the pores. The CuS nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared to enhance the anticancer effects of Oxaliplatin (OXA) against colorectal cancer. The oxaliplatin was loaded into CuS@UiO-66-NH₂. To characterize and investigate their cytotoxicity effects, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, UV-Visible analysis, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and MTT assay were considered to be performed. According to the observations, the cytotoxicity of OXA-CuS@UiO-66-NH₂ was greater than that of the OXA alone.

A novel base-metal multifunctional catalyst for the synthesis of 2-amino-3-cyano-4H-chromenes by a multicomponent tandem oxidation process

A novel base-metal multifunctional nanomagnetic catalyst is prepared by the immobilization of tungstate anions onto γ-Fe₂O₃ supported with imidazolium moieties. The (γ-Fe₂O₃-Im-Py)₂WO₄ was fully characterized using FT-IR, XPS, TEM, FESEM, ICP, TGA, VSM and XRD and used as a multifunctional heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of 2-amino-3-cyano-4H-chromenes via a multicomponent tandem oxidation process starting from alcohols under solvent-free conditions. During this process, tungstate catalyzes the oxidation of a wide range of alcohols in the presence of TBHP as a clean source. The in-situ formed aldehydes are condensed with malononitrile and β-dicarbonyl compounds/naphthols/4-hydroxycumarin through promotion by pyridine and imidazolium moieties of the catalyst. By this method, a variety of 2-amino-3-cyano-4H-chromenes are generated in good to high yields from alcohols as inexpensive and easily available starting materials. The catalyst is recovered easily by the aid of an external magnetic field and reused in five successive runs with insignificant decreasing activity.

Strong coordination ability of sulfur with cobalt for facilitating scale-up synthesis of Co9S8 encapsulated S, N co-doped carbon as a trifunctional electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction, oxygen and hydrogen evolution reaction

High activity trifunctional non-noble electrocatalysts, targeting oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), are rationally designed by integrating the merits of both Co₉S₈ nanoparticles and carbons nanosheets. Herein, Co₉S₈ loaded with S, N co-doped carbon core-shell catalyst (Co₉S₈@SNC) was reasonably designed and synthesized by using the strong coordination effect between Co²⁺ and CS at the molecular level. The significant synergistic effect between the S, N co-doped carbon shell and Co₉S₈ core endows the catalyst with excellent catalytic performance for ORR, HER, and OER reactions. The carbon shell enhances the conductivity of the hybrid material, while the Co₉S₈ core provides the main catalytic active sites. More specifically, the half-wave potential for ORR is 0.846 mV, and the overpotential at 10 mA cm^-2 for OER and HER are 320 mV and 170 mV, respectively. To test its practical application, zinc-air battery assembled by Co₉S₈@SNC shows a high power density of 239 mW cm^-2, excellent rechargeability, and long cyclic stability. This work provides a promising and extensible method to in-situ synthesize core-shell metal sulfides loaded S, N co-doped carbon composites, which can be a promising candidate for electrocatalytic material in energy storage and conversion devices.

The review summarizes the state-of-the-art of C–H active transformations over crystalline and amorphous porous materials as new emerging heterogeneous (photo)catalysts.

Nanoscale Metal-Organic Frameworks: Recent developments in synthesis, modifications and bioimaging applications

Porous Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as eye-catching materials in recent years. They are widely used in numerous fields of chemistry thanks to their desirable properties. MOFs have a key role in the development of bioimaging platforms that are hopefully expected to effectually pave the way for accurate and selective detection and diagnosis of abnormalities. Recently, many types of MOFs have been employed for detection of RNA, DNA, enzyme activity and small-biomolecules, as well as for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT), which are valuable methods for clinical analysis. The optimal performance of the MOF in the bio-imaging field depends on the core structure, synthesis method and modifications processes. In this review, we have attempted to present crucial parameters for designing and achieving an efficient MOF as bioimaging platforms, and provide a roadmap for researchers in this field. Moreover, the influence of modifications/fractionalizations on MOFs performance has been thoroughly discussed and challenging problems have been extensively addressed. Consideration is mainly focused on the principal concepts and applications that have been achieved to modify and synthesize advanced MOFs for future applications.

Metallophthalocyanines as Catalysts in Aerobic Oxidation

The first remarkable property associated to metallophthalocyanines (MPcs) was their chemical “inertness”, which made and make them very attractive as stable and durable industrial dyes. Nevertheless, their rich redox chemistry was also explored in the last decades, making available a solid and detailed knowledge background for further studies on the suitability of MPcs as redox catalysts. An overlook of MPcs and their catalytic activity with dioxygen as oxidants will be discussed here with a special emphasis on the last decade. The mini-review begins with a short introduction to phthalocyanines, from their structure to their main features, going then through the redox chemistry of metallophthalocyanines and their catalytic activity in aerobic oxidation reactions. The most significant systems described in the literature comprise the oxidation of organosulfur compounds such as thiols and thiophenes, the functionalization of alkyl arenes, alcohols, olefins, among other substrates.

In situ synthesis and encapsulation of copper phthalocyanine into MIL-101(Cr) and MIL-100(Fe) pores and investigation of their catalytic performance in the epoxidation of styrene

In this work, copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) was encapsulated into mesocages of MIL-101(Cr) and MIL-100(Fe) by assembling CuPc’s constitutional fractions using a deep eutectic solvent. The prepared materials, CuPc@MIL-101(Cr) and CuPc@MIL-100(Fe), were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FT-IR, UV-vis and diffuse reflectance UV (DR-UV) spectroscopies, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and ICP-OES spectrometry. The prepared materials were used as heterogeneous catalysts for catalytic epoxidation of styrene with molecular oxygen and also tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as oxidants in acetonitrile as a solvent. The impact of MOFs and the role of the CuPc complex as the active species in the MOFs’ cages in the epoxidation of styrene were investigated. Among the prepared catalysts, CuPc@MIL-101(Cr) showed the best performance. The heterogeneity of the catalysts was examined by a hot filtration test and ICP-OES of the filtrates after the reaction. Spent catalysts were analyzed by PXRD, FT-IR, UV-DRS, and TEM for reusability investigation and also to further explore the heterogeneous nature of the hybrid materials. Results showed that the prepared catalysts could be recycled and used for several concoctive times without a considerable drop in activity.
