Abstract
Herein, we disclose an efficient approach for the synthesis of unsymmetrical indolyl diketones from easily accessible 1,2-alkynediones involving a sequential aza-Michael addition/C-H Functionalization process. The two-step, one-pot strategy involves the aza-Michael addition of an aniline generating the N-aryl enaminones followed by iodine-mediated C-H functionalization.

Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) calculation has been used to study the hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) and ring-opening of indole on an M (M = Ni, Pt, Ni–Pt) slab surface. The possible reaction pathway of indole hydrogenation has been investigated in order to reveal the bimetallic synergistic effects of an M slab surface. Compared to the mechanism of indole hydrogenation on an M slab surface, it was found that a PtNi(111) surface favors indole hydrogenation. According to the results of DFT calculation, it suggests that the bimetallic effect of the M surface plays an important role in indole hydrogenation.

Abstract
A cascade approach to the synthesis of 5-(indol-3-yl)hydantoin framework has been developed by the reaction of indole with glyoxylic acid/pyruvic acid under a deep eutectic solution, (+)-tartaric acid-dimethylurea. N,N'-Dimethylurea from a deep eutectic solution functions as a reactant as well as a solvent mixture. Isolation of the intermediate, 5-hydroxyhydantoin, and its reaction with indole provides the mechanistic evidence for this reaction. This method was successfully applied in the first total synthesis of an alkaloid, (±)-oxoaplysinopsin B, with an overall yield of 48%.

Abstract
An efficient and convenient methodology for catalyst-free cross-dehydrogenative coupling of imidazoheterocycles with glyoxal hydrates in good yields was developed. This methodology exhibits a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance and offers a straightforward means to produce different heterocycles such as imidazoheterocyclic quinoxaline, imidazoheterocyclic hydantoin and imidazoheterocyclic α-keto ketamine under relatively mild conditions. Biological evaluation showed that the most potent compound 3m possesses significant in vitro antiproliferative activities against human-derived lung cancer cell lines with an IC50 value of 14.8 μM.

Abstract
Reported herein is an effective strategy for oxidative cross-coupling of indoles with various aldehydes. The strategy is based on a two-step transformation via a well-known Mannich-type reaction and a C-N bond cleavage for carbonyl introduction. The key step-the C-N bond cleavage of the Mannich product-was enabled by electrochemistry. This strategy (with over 40 examples) ensures excellent functional-group tolerance as well as late-stage functionalization of pharmaceutical molecules.

Abstract
A highly regioselective N-1 and C-2 diacylation of 3-substituted indoles with arylglyoxal hydrates to afford N-1 and C-2 indolyl diketones in moderate to good yields is described. Notably, the control of regioselectivity is achieved by small changes in the Cu catalyst, additive and solvent. Importantly, the intermediates for N-1 and C-2 diacylation were detected and two plausible pathways were also proposed.
