Abstract
The use of iron as a core metal in catalysis has become a research topic of interest over the last few decades. The reasons are clear. Iron is the most abundant transition metal on Earth's crust and it is widely distributed across the world. It has been extracted and processed since the dawn of civilization. All these features render iron a noncontaminant, biocompatible, nontoxic, and inexpensive metal and therefore it constitutes the perfect candidate to replace noble metals (rhodium, palladium, platinum, iridium, etc.). Moreover, direct C-H functionalization is one of the most efficient strategies by which to introduce new functional groups into small organic molecules. The majority of organic compounds contain C(sp3 )-H bonds. Given the enormous importance of organic molecules in so many aspects of existence, the utilization and bioactivity of C(sp3 )-H bonds are of the utmost importance. This review sheds light on the substrate scope, selectivity, benefits, and limitations of iron catalysts for direct C(sp3 )-H bond activations. An overview of the use of iron catalysis in C(sp3 )-H activation protocols is summarized herein up to 2022.

Abstract
A novel and efficient approach for the amine-directed dehydrogenative C(sp2)-C(sp3) coupling of arylamines with acetonitrile was reported by using FeCl2 as the catalyst. Substituted anilines, aminopyridines, naphthylamines, and some nitrogen-containing heterocyclic arylamines react with inactive acetonitrile to form the corresponding arylacetonitriles in moderate to good yields. This protocol features nontoxic iron catalysis, efficient atom economy, nonprefunctionalized starting materials, good regioselectivity, and excellent compatibility of functional groups and aromatic rings, providing a novel, straightforward, and green approach toward arylacetonitriles.

Abstract
A simple transition metal-free strategy for the synthesis of pyrido[1,2-a]indolone derivatives has been devised through sodium methoxide-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of 2-alkenylated N-pyrimidyl indoles. The reactions involved a Smiles rearrangement/cyclization cascade, which resulted in a new series of N-fused indoles, potentially applicable skeletons in medicinal chemistry. This reaction presents simple eco-friendly reaction conditions, a high atom- and cost-economy, a short reaction time, and a broad range of substrate scope with high reaction efficiency.

Abstract
A highly regioselective and atom-efficient strategy for the construction of fused free (NH) heteroarenes through a palladium-catalyzed perfluoroalkyl insertion reaction has been accomplished. This protocol employed multiple iodofluoroalkanes as practical and available perfluoroalkyl sources to provide an operationally simple and versatile route for the synthesis of perfluoroalkylated indoles. Moreover, indoles without the assistance of guide groups were utilized as substrates, achieving C(sp2)-H site-selective functionalization of indoles in yields up to 95%. Furthermore, this protocol was also used for late-stage C2 perfluoroalkylation of bioactive compounds such as auxin, tryptophan, and melatonin analogues.

Abstract
Incorporation of nitrile groups into fine chemicals is of particular interest through C(sp3)-H bonds activation of alkyl nitriles in the synthetic chemistry due to the highly efficient atom economy. However, the direct α-functionalization of alkyl nitriles is usually limited to its enolate chemistry. Here we report an electro-oxidative C(sp3)-H bond functionalization of acetonitrile with aromatic/aliphatic mercaptans for the synthesis of sulfur-containing β-enaminonitrile derivatives. These tetrasubstituted olefin products are stereoselectively synthesized and the stereoselectivity is enhanced in the presence of a phosphine oxide catalyst. With iodide as a redox catalyst, activation of C(sp3)-H bond to produce cyanomethyl radicals proceeds smoothly at a decreased anodic potential, and thus highly chemoselective formation of C-S bonds and enamines is achieved. Importantly, the process is carried out at ambient temperature and can be easily scaled up.

Abstract
A Cu-catalyzed method for the synthesis of 3,3'-bipyrroles from homopropargylic amines through tandem aerobic oxidative cyclization involving the formation of C-C bond has been developed. The features of this reaction are a small number of Cu catalysis and simple starting substrates. Moreover, this procedure exhibits good functional group tolerance and a series of 3,3'-bipyrroles derivatives are obtained in moderate to good yields.
