Brønsted Acid-Catalyzed Minisci-Type Cross-Dehydrogenative Coupling of N-Heteroaromatics and Cyclic Ethers

Brønsted acid-catalyzed direct C(sp²)-H alkylation of N-heteroaromatics with cyclic ethers via a cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction in the presence of benzoyl peroxide was developed. This methodology successfully provided an easy access to a variety of alkyl-substituted quinoxaline, benzoimidazole, pyrazine, pyrimidine, quinoline, isoquinoline, and pyridine derivatives in up to 94% yield under metal-free conditions.

Construction of Bridged Carbocycles and Heterocycles via Rh(III)-Catalyzed C-H Alkylation/Michael Addition of 2-Arylindoles with Quinone Monoacetals

A rhodium-catalyzed formal [4 + 5] annulation reaction of 2-arylindoles with quinone monoacetals for the selective preparation of bridged nine-membered carbocyclic and heterocyclic compounds is developed. When 2-aryl substituted indoles are employed, this annulation reaction affords bridged nine-membered carbocyclic compounds with excellent indolyl C3 selectivity. On the other hand, with 2-aryl-3-substituted indoles as the substrates, bridged nine-membered heterocyclic compounds are exclusively formed via N1 annulation. Further transformations of the obtained products into new bridged compounds showcase the synthetic potential of this protocol.

Organocatalytic Asymmetric Three-Component Povarov Reactions of Anilines and Aldehydes

We report the first highly enantio- and diastereoselective three-component Povarov reaction between anilines and aldehydes catalyzed by a chiral amine catalyst. A wide variety of substituted tetrahydroquinolines were obtained with moderate to good yields and excellent enantioselectivity and diastereoselectivity (up to 99% ee and >95:5 dr) under the reaction conditions. Furthermore, the reaction intermediates could be efficiently converted to other valuable building blocks.

Progress in the Chemistry of Tetrahydroquinolines

Tetrahydroquinoline is one of the most important simple nitrogen heterocycles, being widespread in nature and present in a broad variety of pharmacologically active compounds. This Review summarizes the progress achieved in the chemistry of tetrahydroquinolines, with emphasis on their synthesis, during the period from mid-2010 to early 2018.

Metal-free synthesis of aminomethylated imidazoheterocycles: dual role of tert-butyl hydroperoxide as both an oxidant and a methylene source

A novel and efficient aminomethylation approach has been developed for the regioselective functionalization of imidazoheterocycles under metal-free conditions. A wide range of imidazoheterocycles and 2/4-aminoazaheterocycles successfully provided corresponding aminomethylated imidazoheterocycles in moderate to excellent (33-80%) yields. The isotopic labelling study suggested that TBHP played a dual role as both an oxidant and a methylene source in this transformation. The developed protocol follows a radical pathway which is supported by radical trapping experiments.

A straightforward TBHP-mediated synthesis of 2-amidobenzoic acids from 2-arylindoles and their antimicrobial activity

Synthesis of 2-amidobenzoic acids has been achieved through TBHP-mediated oxidative ring opening of 2-arylindoles. The synthesized compounds have been evaluated for their antimicrobial activity.
