Abstract
Portable sampling of target analytes in complex biofluid samples makes mass spectrometric analysis more efficient. This study reports the development of paper-in-tip spray ionization for solid-phase microextraction and in situ electrospray of therapeutic drugs and proteins in complex biological matrices using a piece of hydrophobic paper substrate. This technique possesses a long (more than 8 min) and stable spray duration with only 20 μL of spray solvent. The entire analytical process for a complex sample can be completed in less than 1.5 min and enables high sensitivity (picogram-per-milliliter level) and high quantitation precision.

Abstract
A strip test is described for the optical determination of influenza virus H3 subtype. It utilizes gold nanoparticle (AuNP) coated polystyrene latex microspheres (PS) as the label and a sandwich format. The AuNP and PS particles were linked using monoclonal antibodies against influenza virus as the bridge. Under the optimal conditions, the visual detection limit of the AuNP-PS-based strip test was as low as 1/16 hemagglutination unit (HAU). It was 64 times higher than that of 10 nm (4 HAU) AuNP-based strip tests. Quantitative analysis showed that the detection limit of the AuNP-PS-based strip is 0.016 HAU. The AuNP-PS-based strip test showed no cross-reactivity to the other subtypes (H1, H5, H7, or H9) of influenza viruses. Graphical abstract .

Abstract
Effect of digestion methods on fluorescence intensity of fluorescent polystyrene (PS) beads was poorly understood, which may affect the accuracy of toxicity test of the fluorescent PS beads exposed to marine organisms. Therefore, six digestion approaches were compared on fluorescence intensities and properties of three commercial fluorescent PS beads. Among all the protocols, the digestion using KOH (10% w/v, 60 °C) (KOH-digestion) had no effect on the fluorescence intensity, morphology and composition of the three fluorescent PS beads. Moreover, the extraction efficiency ≥ 95.3 ± 0.2% of fluorescent PS beads in Daphnia magna and zebrafish, confirming its feasibility in fluorescent PS beads quantitative analysis. However, the fluorescence intensities of fluorescent PS beads digested by other five protocols were significantly decreased, as well as the change of morphology and composition on fluorescent PS beads. Overall, the KOH-digestion is an optimal protocol for extracting fluorescent PS beads in biological samples.
