Abstract
The present study investigated the sorption behavior of 85Sr and 60Co radionuclides from aqueous solutions onto tin molybdate (SnMo) sorbent. SnMo has been synthesized using the precipitation method and was characterized using four analytical techniques including FT-IR, XRD, SEM, and XRF. The sorption studies applied on 85Sr and 60Co include the effect of shaking time, pH, concentration, and saturation capacity. The experimental data revealed that the sorption process was carried out after equilibrium time (180 min). The saturation capacity for 85Sr and 60Co is measured to be 58.1 and 52.2 mg g-1, respectively. The sorption behavior of studied radionuclides is dependent on pH values. Sorption kinetic better fit with the pseudo-second-order model. Furthermore, the sorption isotherm is better represented by the model proposed by Langmuir. The results of the desorption investigations indicated that the most effective eluents for achieving full recovery of investigated radionuclides were identified. Finally, the recycling results demonstrate the suitability of SnMo for affected sorbing of 85Sr and 60Co from aqueous solutions. All the obtained data clarify that the SnMo sorbent is an effective means of removing 85Sr and 60Co from liquid waste.

Abstract
Biomass is an attractive raw material for the production of fuel oil and chemical intermediates due to its abundant reserves, low price, easy biodegradability, and renewable use. Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) is a valuable platform chemically derived from biomass that has gained significant research interest owing to its economic and environmental benefits. In this review, recent advances in biomass catalytic conversion systems for 5-HMF production were examined with a focus on the catalysts selection and feedstocks' impact on the 5-HMF selectivity and yield. Specifically, the potential of zeolite-based catalysts for efficient biomass catalysis was evaluated given their unique pore structure and tunable (Lewis and Brønsted) acidity. The benefits of hierarchical modifications and the interactions between porosity and acidity in zeolites, which are critical factors for the development of green catalytic systems to convert biomass to 5-HMF efficiently, were summarized and assessed. This Review suggests that zeolite-based catalysts hold significant promise in facilitating the sustainable utilization of biomass resources.

Abstract
5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) synthesized through glucose conversion requires Lewis acid (L) site for isomerization and Brønsted acid (B) site for dehydration. The objective of this work is to investigate the influence of the metal type of Al-SBA-15-supported phosphates of Cr, Zr, Nb, Sr, and Sn on glucose conversion to 5-HMF in a NaCl-H2 O/n-butanol biphasic solvent system. The structural and acid property of all supported metal phosphate samples were fully verified by several spectroscopic methods. Among those catalysts, CrPO/Al-SBA-15 provided the best performance with the highest glucose conversion and 5-HMF yield, corresponding to the highest total acidity of 0.65 mmol/g and optimal L/B ratio of 1.88. For CrPO/Al-SBA-15, another critical parameter is the phosphate-to-chromium ratio. Moreover, DFT simulation of glucose conversion to 5-HMF on the surface of the optimized chromium phosphate structure reveals three steps of fructose dehydration on the Brønsted acid site. Finally, the optimum reaction condition, reusability, and leaching test of the best catalyst were determined. CrPO/Al-SBA-15 is a promising catalyst for glucose conversion to high-value-added chemicals in future biorefinery production.

Abstract
The samples of precipitated tin (IV) phosphate, modified using hydrothermal, microwave, and mechanochemical procedures, were studied in the process of Cs(I), Sr(II), and U(VI) ion sorption. The initial and modified samples were investigated before and after sorption using XRD, XRF, FTIR, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption. It was found that the modification procedures transformed the micro-mesoporous structure of the initial sample into a meso-macroporous structure. As a result, the sorption capacity in relation to all ions increases several times. This indicates the determining role of the porous structure, primary content, and mesopore size on the sorption activity of tin phosphate. The samples, treated in the form of a wet gel, which is a novel procedure, showed the maximum sorption indicators. The sorption of all the tested ions is described by the Langmuir isotherm.

Abstract
This article studied the sorption behavior of Cs(I) ions from aqueous solutions onto molybdenum vanadate@bentonite (MoV@bentonite) composite. MoV@bentonite has been fabricated using the precipitation method and was characterized by different analytical tools including, FT-IR, XRD, and SEM attached with an EDX unit. The sorption studies applied on Cs(I) ions include the effect of contact time, pH, initial metal concentrations, ionic strength, desorption, and recycling. The experimental results revealed that in the adsorption process carried out after equilibrium time (300 min), saturation capacity has a value of 26.72 mg·g-1 and the sorption of Cs(I) ions is dependent on pH values and ionic strength. Sorption kinetic better fit with the pseudo-second-order model; sorption isotherms apply to Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models. Data of thermodynamic parameters indicate that sorption is spontaneous and endothermic. Recycling experiments show that MoV@bentonite could be used for 7 cycles and the best eluant for the recovery of Cs(I) ions is 0.1 M HCl (76.9%). All the obtained data clarify that MoV@bentonite is considered a promising sorbent for the sorption of Cs(I) ions from aqueous solutions.

Abstract
Lignocellulosic biomass, a cheap and plentiful resource, could play a key role in the production of sustainable chemicals. The simple sugars contained in the renewable lignocellulosic biomass can be converted into commercially valuable products such as 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF). A platform molecule, HMF can be transformed into numerous chemical products with potential applications in a wide variety of industries. Of the hexoses contained in the lignocellulosic biomass, the successful production of HMF from glucose has been a challenge. Various heterogeneous catalysts have been proposed over the last decade, ranging from zeolites to metal organic frameworks. The reaction conditions vary in the reports in the literature, which makes it difficult to compare catalysts reported in different studies. In addition, the slight variations in the synthesis of the same material in different laboratories may affect the activity results, because the selectivity towards desired products in this transformation strongly depends on the nature of the active sites. This poses another difficulty for the comparison of different reports. Furthermore, over the last decade the new catalytic systems proposed have increased profoundly. In this article, we summarize the heterogeneous catalysts: Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs), zeolites and conventional supported catalysts, that have been reported in the recent literature and provide an overview of the observed catalytic activity, in order to provide a comparison.

Abstract
AbstractThe paper presents the kinetics of Zn (II) ions adsorption as well as its dependence as a function of pH on nanostructured zirconium phosphate and its composites with silica and titania. The nanostructured zirconium phosphate-containing composites were obtained by mechanical processing in the Pulverisette-7 (Fritsch Gmbh) mill. The obtained composites were characterized by a heterogeneous surface coverage of silica gel or titanium oxides. Zinc ions adsorption studies on these adsorbents showed practically complete removal of Zn (II) from aqueous solutions with an initial concentration of < 0.0001 mol/dm3 and a pH > 4 within 10 min.

Abstract
5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) derived from cellulosic sugars has become increasingly important as a platform chemical for the biorefinery industry because of its versatility in the conversion to other chemicals. Although HMF can be produced in high yield from fructose dehydration, fructose is rather expensive because it requires multiple processing steps. On the other hand, HMF can be produced directly from highly abundant glucose, which could reduce time and cost. However, an effective and multifunctional catalyst is needed to selectively promote the glucose-to-HMF reaction. In this work, we report a bifunctional phosphated titanium dioxide as an efficient catalyst for such a reaction. The best catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic performance for the glucose conversion to HMF with 72% yield and 83% selectivity in the biphasic system. We achieve this by tuning the solvent system, controlling the amount of Brønsted and Lewis acid sites on the catalyst, and modification of the reaction setup. From the analysis of acid sites, we found that the addition of phosphate group (Brønsted acid site) onto the surface of TiO2 (Lewis acid site) significantly enhanced the HMF yield and selectivity when the optimum ratio of Brønsted and Lewis acid sites is reached. The high catalytic activity, good reusability, and simple preparation method of the catalyst show a promise for the potential use of this catalytic system on an industrial scale. Tunable Lewis and Brønsted acid sites on P–TiO2 tandem catalysts for glucose-to-HMF conversion providing high HMF yield (72%) and selectivity (83%).![]()

Abstract
In the present work, a series of catalysts based on aluminum and zirconium oxides was studied for the transformation of glucose into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural. These catalysts were characterized by using experimental techniques, such as X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption–desorption at −196 °C, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, temperature-programmed desorption of NH3 and CO2, and scanning transmission electron microscopy. The catalytic behavior in glucose dehydration was evaluated in a water-methyl isobutyl ketone biphasic system, in the presence of CaCl2, in order to minimize losses due to unwanted secondary reactions. High glucose conversion and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) yield values were obtained in the presence of an Al(Zr)Ox catalyst with an Al:Zr molar ratio of 7:3, reaching 97% and 47%, respectively, at 150 °C after 120 min. Under tested conditions, this catalyst retained most of its catalytic activity for four reuses.

Environmentally Friendly and Cost-Effective Synthesis of Carbonaceous Particles for Preparing Hollow SnO2 Nanospheres and their Bifunctional Li-Storage and Gas-Sensing Properties. CRYSTALS 2020. Abstract
The templated preparation of hollow nanomaterials has received broad attention. However, many templates are expansive, environmentally-harmful, along with involving a complicated preparation process. Herein, we present a cost-effective, environmentally friendly and simple approach for making carbonaceous particles which have been demonstrated as efficient templates for preparing hollow nanospheres. Natural biomass, such as wheat or corn, is used as the source only, and thus other chemicals are not needed. The carbonaceous particles possess abundant hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, enabling them to efficiently adsorb metal ions in solution. The prepared SnO2 hollow spheres were used in a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery anode, and as the sensing layer of a gas sensor, respectively. After charge–discharge for 200 times at a rate of 1 C, the anodes exhibit a stable capacity of 500 mAh g−1, and a Coulombic efficiency as high as 99%. In addition, the gas sensor based on the SnO2 hollow spheres shows a high sensing performance towards ethanol gas. It is expected that the presented natural biomass-derived particles and their green preparation method will find more applications for broad research fields, including energy-storage and sensors.

Inexpensive but Highly Efficient Co-Mn Mixed-Oxide Catalysts for Selective Oxidation of 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-Furandicarboxylic Acid. CHEMSUSCHEM 2018; 11:3323-3334. Abstract
A highly active and inexpensive Co-Mn mixed-oxide catalyst was prepared and used for selective oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) into 2, 5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA). Co-Mn mixed-oxide catalysts with different Co/Mn molar ratios were prepared through a simple solid-state grinding method-a low-cost and green catalyst preparation method. The activity of these catalysts was evaluated for selective aerobic oxidation of HMF into FDCA in water. Excellent HMF conversion (99 %) and FDCA yield (95 % ) were obtained under the best reaction conditions (i.e., 120 °C, 5 h, Co-Mn mixed-oxide catalyst with a Co/Mn molar ratio of 0.25 calcined at 300 °C (Co-Mn-0.25) and 1 MPa O2 ). The catalyst could be reused five times without a significant decrease in activity. The results demonstrated that the catalytic activity and selectivity of the Co-Mn mixed-oxide catalysts prepared through solid-state grinding were superior to the same Co-Mn catalyst prepared through a conventional coprecipitation method. The high catalytic activity of the Co-Mn-0.25 catalyst was attributed to its high lattice oxygen mobility and the presence of different valence states of manganese. The high activity and low cost of the Co-Mn mixed-oxide catalysts prepared by solid-state grinding make it promising for industrial application for the manufacturing of polyethylene furanoate, a bioreplacement for polyethylene terephthalate, from sustainable bioresources.
