Abstract
Generally, the relationship between the observed circular dichroism and the enantiomeric excess in chiral systems (CD-ee dependence) is linear. While positive nonlinear behavior has often been reported in the past, examples of negative nonlinear (NN) behavior in CD-ee dependence are rare and not well understood. Here, we present a strong NN CD-ee dependence within polycrystalline thin films of BINOL by using second-harmonic-generation circular dichroism (SHG-CD) and commercial CD spectroscopy studies. Theoretical calculations, microscopy, and FTIR studies are employed to further clarify the underlying cause of this observation. This behavior is attributed to the changing supramolecular chirality of the system. Systems exhibiting NN CD-ee dependence hold promise for highly accurate enantiomeric excess characterization, which is essential for the refinement of enantio-separating and -purifying processes in pharmaceuticals, asymmetric catalysis, and chiral sensing. Our findings suggest that a whole class of single-species systems, i.e., racemate crystals, might possess NN CD-ee dependence and thus provide us a vast playground to better understand and exploit this phenomenon.

Abstract
We investigated coordination polymers of Ag+ with a cysteine-based thiol ligand designed to contain a tetraphenylethylene AIEgen (L- and D-1). The coordination polymers, forming in a variety of protic and aprotic organic solvents, such as THF, CH3CN and CH3OH, were shown to undergo aggregation in H2O/THF binary solvents at water volume fractions above 50%, where emission was substantially enhanced while the CD profile was reversed, yet the dependence of the CD signal on ee remained S-shaped for the polymers in the aprotic organic solvents THF and CH3CN, in contrast to that in protic solvents CH3OH and C2H5OH.

Abstract
The newly developed porous liquids known as liquids with permanent microporosity, have considerable application potential in many unknown areas. Herein, a supramolecular system composed of α-cyclodextrin porous liquid, chiral silver nanoparticles and planar conjugated molecules (methylene blue and indigo carmine) was designed and the induced chirality of the system was observed. It was found that the induced chirality can be easily tuned by changing the pH value of the mixture solution. The induced chiral signal of methylene blue in the developed self-assembled supramolecular system occurred when the pH was between 8 and 10, and furthermore the induced chirality of indigo carmine was found when the pH was between 6.5 and 7.5. The intensity of induced chirality decreases upon increasing temperatures and ionic strength. This study may offer a new approach for the creation of a chiral supramolecular system based on host-guest and electrostatic interaction and make cyclodextrin porous liquids promising candidates for applications in chiral induction.

Abstract
A novel supramolecular chiral hydrogel with enhanced emission was obtained by the co-assembly of achiral thiobarbituric acid-modified gold nanoclusters (TBA-AuNCs) with chiral histidine molecules. Chirality transfer from histidine to the supramolecular hydrogels was achieved through the π-π stacking and intermolecular H-bonding based on molecular recognition. This work gives a creative strategy for the building of chiral nanocluster-based materials.

Abstract
Gold, silver, and copper small nanoparticles (NPs), with average size ≈2 nm, are synthesized and afterward protected with l- and d-cysteine, demonstrating emergence of chiroptical activity in the wavelength range of 250-400 nm for all three metals with respect to the bare nanoparticles and ligands alone. Silver-cysteine (Ag-Cys) NPs display the higher anisotropy factor, whereas gold-cysteine (Au-Cys) NPs show optical and chiroptical signatures slightly more displaced to the visible range. A larger number of circular dichroism (CD) bands with smaller intensity, as compared to gold and silver, is observed for the first time for copper-cysteine (Cu-Cys) NPs. The manifestation of optical and chiroptical responses upon cysteine adsorption and the differences between the spectra corresponding to each metal are mainly dictated by the metal-ligand interface, as supported by a comparison with calculations of the oscillatory and rotatory strengths based on time-dependent density functional theory, using a metal-ligand interface motif model, which closely resembles the experimental absorption and CD spectra. These results are useful to demonstrate the relevance of the interface between chiral ligands and the metal surfaces of Au, Ag, and Cu NPs, and provide evidence and further insights into the origin of the transfer mechanisms and induction of extrinsic chirality.

Abstract
Second-harmonic generation (SHG) integrated with diverse nonlinear optical activity characterization has high sensitivity to detect the symmetry of materials at an interface, but the study is in its infancy. Here, we employ SHG with linear dichroism (or SHG-LD) to study the chiroptical origin of silver (Ag) chiral nanoparticles (CNPs) deposited by glancing angle deposition (GLAD). It is found that Ag CNPs show the chiroptical activity ascribed to not only the structural chirality (i.e., atomically chiral lattices) but also one-fold anisotropy at an interface due to the substrate rotation during GLAD. Therefore, the SHG-LD shows great potential to provide valuable complementary information to study the chiroptical properties of chiral metamaterials.

Abstract
Chirality is ubiquitous in nature and occurs at all length scales. The development of applications for chiral nanostructures is rising rapidly. With the recent achievements of atomically precise nanochemistry, total structures of ligand-protected Au and other metal nanoclusters (NCs) are successfully obtained, and the origins of chirality are discovered to be associated with different parts of the cluster, including the surface ligands (e.g., swirl patterns), the organic-inorganic interface (e.g., helical stripes), and the kernel. Herein, a unified picture of metal-ligand surface bonding-induced chirality for the nanoclusters is proposed. The different bonding modes of M-X (where M = metal and X = the binding atom of ligand) lead to different surface structures on nanoclusters, which in turn give rise to various characteristic features of chirality. A comparison of Au-thiolate NCs with Au-phosphine ones further reveals the important roles of surface bonding. Compared to the Au-thiolate NCs, the Ag/Cu/Cd-thiolate systems exhibit different coordination modes between the metal and the thiolate. Other than thiolate and phosphine ligands, alkynyls are also briefly discussed. Several methods of obtaining chiroptically active nanoclusters are introduced, such as enantioseparation by high-performance liquid chromatography and enantioselective synthesis. Future perspectives on chiral NCs are also proposed.

Abstract
One of the many challenges in the study of chiral nanosurfaces and nanofilms is the design of accurate and controlled nanoscale films with enantioselective activity. Controlled design of chiral nanofilms creates the opportunity to develop chiral materials with nanostructured architecture. Molecular layer deposition (MLD) is an advanced surface-engineering strategy for the preparation of hybrid inorganic-organic thin films, with a desired embedded property; in our study this is chirality. Previous attempts to grow enantioselective thin films were mostly focused on self-assembled monolayers or template-assisted synthesis, followed by removal of the chiral template. Here, we report a method to prepare chiral hybrid inorganic-organic nanoscale thin films with controlled thickness and impressive enantioselective properties. We present the use of an MLD reactor for sequenced vapor deposition to produce enantioselective thin films, by embedding the chirality of chiral building blocks into thin films. The prepared thin films demonstrate enantioselectivity of ∼20% and enantiomeric excess of up to 50%. We show that our controlled synthesis of chiral thin films generates opportunities for enantioselective coatings over various templates and 3D membranes.

Abstract
Heterogeneous catalysis has vastly benefited from investigations performed on model systems under well-controlled conditions. The application of most of the techniques utilized for such studies is not feasible for asymmetric reactions as enantiomers possess identical physical and chemical properties unless while interacting with polarized light and other chiral entities. A thorough investigation of a heterogeneous asymmetric catalytic process should include probing the catalyst prior to, during, and after the reaction as well as the analysis of reaction products to evaluate the achieved enantiomeric excess. I present recent studies that demonstrate the strength of chiroptical spectroscopic methods to tackle the challenges in investigating model heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis covering all the abovementioned aspects.

Abstract
In this work, we present an experimental setup for the in situ and ex situ study of the optical activity of samples, which can be prepared under ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions by second-harmonic generation circular dichroism (SHG-CD) over a broad spectral range. The use of a racemic mixture as a qualified reference for the anisotropy factor is described and, as an example, the chiroptical properties of 1.5 μm thick (multilayers) as well as sub-monolayer thin films of the R- and S-enantiomer of 1,1'-Bi-2-naphthol (BINOL) evaporated onto BK7 substrates were investigated.
