Abstract
Pyrene-substituted amphiphilic ATRP polymers (P1) were used to stabilize the pyrene-substituted gold(I) NHC complex (Au-1) within the hydrophobic compartment of micellar structures in a methanol/water mixture through non-covalent π-π stacking interactions. The stacking interactions between pyrene groups of the polymer and the catalyst were investigated by means of fluorescence spectroscopy by comparing excimer and monomer emission signals of the pyrene moiety. The supported catalyst (Au-1@P1) formed spherical micellar structures in a water/methanol mixture with an average size of 55.6 (±13.1) nm as confirmed from TEM analysis. The performance of the catalytic system was tested on alkyne hydration reactions of alkynes. When compared to the unsupported analog, the supported catalyst showed an improved performance as a result of stabilization through π-stacking interactions within the hydrophobic compartment in the micellar structure.

Abstract
Understanding individual-block solvation in self-assembled block copolymer systems is experimentally difficult, but this solvation underpins the assembly and disassembly observed at the bulk scale. Here, covalently attached viscosity-sensitive molecular rotors for fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy uncover and quantitatively elucidate previously undisclosed differential block-selective responses toward solvation changes upon addition of DMSO and THF to self-assembled ROMP-based amphiphilic block copolymers. The sensitivity of this method provides unique information on block-selective solvent-triggered assembly and disassembly mechanisms, revealing behaviors invisible to or with superior sensitivity to traditional 1H NMR spectroscopy. These experiments demonstrate an analytical method and provide a granular mechanistic understanding, both suitable for fine tuning block copolymer assembly and disassembly processes.

Abstract
Poly(norbornene)s and poly(ionic liquid)s are two different classes of attractive materials, which are known for their structural tunability and thermal stabilities, and have been extensively studied as gas separation membranes. The incorporation of ionic liquids (ILs) into the poly(norbornene) through post-polymerization has resulted in unique materials with synergistic properties. However, direct polymerization of norbornene-containing IL monomers as gas separation membranes are limited. To this end, a series of norbornene-containing imidazolium-based mono- and di-cationic ILs (NBM-mIm and NBM-DILs) with different connectivity and spacer lengths were synthesized and characterized spectroscopically. Subsequently, the poly(NBM-mIm) with bistriflimide [Tf2N-] and poly([NBM-DILs][Tf2N]2) comprising homo-, random-, and block- (co)polymers were synthesized via ring-opening metathesis polymerization using the air-stable Grubbs second-generation catalyst. Block copolymers (BCPs), specifically, [NBM-mIM][Tf2N] and [NBM-ImCnmIm] [Tf2N]2 (n = 4 and 6) were synthesized at two different compositions, which generated high molecular weight polymers with decent solubility relative to homo- and random (co)polymers of [NBM-DILs] [Tf2N]2. The prepared BCPs were efficiently analyzed by a host of analytical tools, including 1H-NMR, GPC, and WAXD. The successfully BCPs were cast into thin membranes ranging from 47 to 125 μm and their gas (CO2, N2, CH4, and H2) permeations were measured at 20 °C using a time-lag apparatus. These membranes displayed modest CO2 permeability in a non-linear fashion with respect to composition and a reverse trend in CO2/N2 permselectivity was observed, as a usual trade-off behavior between permeability and permselectivity.

Abstract
Poly(vinylbenzyl chloride-co-divinyl benzene)-based polyHIPE monoliths of different porosities were prepared using high-internal-phase emulsions (HIPEs) containing a fixed amount of vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC, 6.0 g, 0.0393 mol) and divinyl benzene (DVB 4.0 g, 0.0308 mol) as the oil phase and different volume ratios of aqueous calcium chloride as the internal phase. Span-80 (2.0 g (4.67 mmol))-stabilized HIPEs were polymerized at 60 °C using potassium persulfate (0.4 g, 1.48 mmol) as the initiator. Upon varying the volume ratio of aqueous calcium chloride from 80 to 90%, the prepared polyHIPE monoliths have shown significant variations in their surface morphology, specific surface area (SA), and pore volumes (V p) as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a gas adsorption (BET) method. The prepared polyHIPE monoliths were anchored with o-hydroxynaphthaldehyde propylenediamine Schiff base ligand (HNPn) and then loaded with copper(ii) ions (HNPn-Cu) to act as a catalyst. The structural information of unsupported HNPn-Cu complexes was obtained by recording its FT-IR and UV-visible spectra. The amount of copper(ii) ions loaded onto HNPn ligand-anchored polyHIPE monoliths was determined by atomic absorption spectroscopic analysis. In comparison to unsupported HNPn-Cu catalyst, the polyHIPE monolith-supported HNPn-Cu catalyst has shown high catalytic activity (66.8%), product selectivity for epoxycyclohexane (ECH) (94.8%), high turn over number (0.028 mol mol-1 h-1) and low energy of activation (22.4 kJ mol-1) in the epoxidation of cyclohexene in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as an oxidant at 40 °C. The polyHIPE-supported HNPn-Cu catalyst also shows high reuse applications. Studies show that there is sufficient scope to develop polyHIPE monoliths with various properties for specific applications.
