Abstract
In this work, we report on five novel coordination polymers (CPs) based on the linkage of the [Cd(6apic)2] building block [where 6apic = 6-aminopicolinate] by different bipyridine-type organic spacers, forming different coordination compounds with the following formulae: [Cd(μ-6apic)2]n (1), {[Cd(6apic)2(μ-bipy)]·H2O}n (2), {[Cd(6apic)2(μ-bpe)]·2H2O}n (3), [Cd(6apic)(μ-6apic)(μ-bpa)0.5]n (4) and {[Cd2(6apic)4(μ-tmbp)]·7H2O}n (5) [where bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine, bpe = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene, bpa = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethane (bpa) and tmbp = 1,3-di(4-pyridyl)propane]. Most of the synthesized compounds form infinite metal-organic rods through the linkage of the building block by the bipyridine-type linker, except in the case of compound 4 whose assembly forms a densely packed 3D architecture. All compounds were fully characterized and their photoluminescence properties were studied experimentally and computationally through density functional theory (DFT) calculations. All compounds display, upon UV excitation, a similar blue emission of variable intensity depending on the linker employed for the connection of the building units, among which compound 2 deserves to be highlighted for its room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) with an emission lifetime of 32 ms that extends to 79 ms at low temperature. These good photoluminescence properties, in addition to its stability in water over a wide pH range (between 2 and 10), motivated us to study compound 2 as a sensor for the detection of metal ions in water, and it showed high sensitivity to Fe3+ through a fluorescence turn-off mechanism and an unspecific turn-on response to Zn2+. Furthermore, the compound is processed as a paper-based analytical device (PAD) in which the phosphorescence emission is preserved, improving the sensing capacity toward Fe3+ ions.

Abstract
MOF-based luminescent sensors have garnered considerable attention due to their potential in recognition and discrimination with high sensitivity, selectivity, and fast response in the last decades. Herein, this work describes the bulk preparation of a novel luminescent homochiral MOF, namely, [Cd(s-L)](NO3)2 (MOF-1), from an enantiopure pyridyl-functionalized ligand with rigid binaphthol skeleton under mild synthetic condition. Except for the features of porosity and crystallinity, the MOF-1 has also been characterized with water-stability, luminescence, and homochirality. Most important, the MOF-1 exhibits highly sensitive molecular recognition toward the4-nitrobenzoic acid (NBC) and moderate enantioselective detection of proline, arginine, and 1-phenylethanol.

Abstract
Combining Zn(II) with two dicarboxylic acids of different length and functional groups results in the 2D metal-carboxylate layer of different size and shape, which are further connected by the same bis-pyridyl-bis-amide pillar to afford two 4-fold and 3-fold interpenetrating pillared-layer networks (1 and 2). Luminescent properties of 1 and 2 have been systematically investigated and demonstrated multi-responsive luminescent sensitivities. 1 can be used for highly sensitive detection of nitroaromatics. In particular, 2 can be used turn-off sensing towards Cr2O72- and MnO4- anions as well as turn-on sensing towards PO43- anion in aqueous solution with high sensitivity and remarkable recyclability. The sensing mechanism is also discussed.

Abstract
The potential emergence of fluorescence-based techniques has propelled research towards developing probes that can sense trace metal ions specifically. Although luminescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are well suited for this application, the role of building blocks towards detection is not fully understood. In this work, a systematic screening by varying number of Lewis basic (pyridyl-N atoms) sites is carried out in a series of isostructural, robust UiO-67 MOFs, and targeting a model metal ion-Fe3+ . All the three fluorescent MOFs are seen to present quenching response towards Fe3+ ions in water. However, UiO-67@N exhibits highly selective and sensitive response, whereas emission of both UiO-67 and UiO-67@NN is quenched by several metal ions. Detailed experimental and theoretical mechanistic investigation is carried out in addition to demonstration of UiO-67@N being able to sense trace amount of Fe3+ ions in synthetic biological water sample. Further, UiO-67@N based mixed-matrix membrane (MMM) has been prepared and employed to mimic the real time Fe3+ ions detection in water.

Abstract
Two solvent-controlled topological isomers of scandium-organic frameworks [Sc(Hpzc)(pzc)]·DMF·2H2O (1·DMF·2H2O) and [Sc(Hpzc)(pzc)]·DMA·4H2O (2·DMA·4H2O) were synthesized using 2,5-pyrazinedicarboxylate (pzc2-) (DMF = dimethylformamide; DMA = dimethylacetamide). Despite the isomeric nature of the obtained metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), they possess different structural features and unique adsorption properties toward gases and iodine. The compound 1 has widely spread among MOF structures a dia topology with ultranarrow channels, which together with inner surface functionalization leads to enhanced CO2 adsorption and high selectivity factors in CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 gas mixtures (25.9 and 35.6, respectively, 1/1 v/v). Moreover, a rare preferable adsorption of CO2 over C2H2 was demonstrated. The biporous isomeric framework 2 has a crb topology inherent in zeolites. A remarkable adsorption affinity to C2H2 with the ideal adsorbed solution theory selectivity factor of 127.1 for a C2H2/C2H4 mixture (1/99 v/v) was achieved for 2. Both compounds have exceptional chemical stability in a wide range of pH from acidic to basic media.

Abstract
A three-dimensional porous 3d-4f heterometallic organic framework, namely, {[Eu3(Cu4I4)3(INA)9(DMF)4]·3DMF}n (YNU-2), was successfully prepared under solvothermal conditions. There are two different one-dimensional metal chains in the structure, namely, Cu4I4 and EuIII-based chains, resulting in an excellent stability of the prepared sample. A N2 sorption isotherm at 77 K revealed that the activated sample exhibits a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of 371 m2 g-1, while, YNU-2 can adsorb obviously higher CO2 amounts than CH4 at 273 K and 298 K under 1 atm because of the stronger interaction force between CO2 and the porous skeleton. Furthermore, YNU-2 is highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for chemical fixation of the CO2 and epoxides into cyclic carbonates with a preferable recyclability. Taking into account its excellent stability, the prepared sample can be used to construct an electrochemical adapter sensor for detecting cocaine with a detection limit of 0.27 pg mL-1 in the wide range of 0.001-0.5 ng mL-1.

Abstract
Fluorescent materials with lanthanide cations encapsulated in MOFs are currently used in numerous applications, especially in biosensors. Therefore, herein, two novel composites were designed and developed based on a Tb(iii)&Yb(iii)-functionalized Cu(ii)-coordination polymer, possessing higher thermal and water stability and fascinating fluorescence properties. The first bimetallic composite Tb@Cu-Hcbpp demonstrated broad ligand-centered emission and weak typical Tb3+ ion emission; moreover, it was used as an excellent ratiometric fluorescent sensor for the metabolic product NMF of DMF in the human body (LOD = 0.02 μM). In addition, the Yb3+ ions were doped into Tb@Cu-Hcbpp to improve the fluorescence performance of the green Tb3+ ion emission. Among the series of Tb1-xYbx@Cu-Hcbpp samples (x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30, 0.35 and 0.40), Tb0.85Yb0.15@Cu-Hcbpp showed maximum enhanced fluorescence intensity (almost 9.6 times that of the pure terbium system), but exhibited high fluorescence quenching efficiency for methylglyoxal (MGO), which could be used for the sensitive detection of MGO (LOD = 0.25 μM). Furthermore, the developed biosensors were successfully applied for the detection of NMF and MGO in urine and serum samples, and satisfactory results were obtained, showing good potential of these biosensors in practical applications such as in disease diagnosis and biochemical research.
