Abstract
A new Schiff base complex, Cu(H2L)2 (H3L: 6,6
-((1E,1
E)-((azanediylbis(ethane-2,1-diyl))bis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(2-methoxyphenol)), through the reaction of ligand H3L with Cu(NO3)2 3H2O, in the ratio of 2 : 1 in methanol solvent was prepared. The obtained ligand (H3L) was characterized by FT-IR, 13C NMR, 1H NMR and elemental analyses. Then its copper(II) complex was prepared and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal studies, elemental analyses and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray crystallography revealed that the two H3L ligands in bidentate fashion coordinated to one copper center for producing Cu(H2L)2 complex. We used copper(II) Schiff base complex, Cu(H2L)2, for the preparation of CuO nanoparticles via solid-state thermal decomposition. The crystalline structure of the product was studied by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRD indicated that the new product was copper oxide. SEM image showed that the size of CuO nanoparticles was between 46 and 53 nm, and they had uniform shape. The antibacterial properties of the complex and ligand were also investigated. The results revealed that Schiff base complex showed higher biological activity than Schiff base ligand.

Synthesis, Structure, and Antiproliferative Action of 2-Pyridyl Urea-Based Cu(II) Complexes. Biomedicines 2022; 10:biomedicines10020461. Abstract
Relying on a recently suggested protocol that furnishes convenient access to variously substituted 2-pyridyl ureas, twelve hitherto unknown Cu(II) complexes have been synthesized in the present work and their structures were evaluated by elemental analysis, HRMS, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction study. Two structural motifs ([Cu(L)2Cl]+[Cl]− or (Cu(L)2Cl2) depending on the substitution pattern on the 2-pyridine fragment were revealed. In addition, antiproliferative action of the obtained compounds have been investigated against lung cancer cell lines (A549, NCI-H460, NCI-H1975), and healthy WI-26 VA4 cells were used to monitor non-specific cytotoxicity. Two nitro-group substituted complexes Cu(U3)2Cl2 (IC50 = 39.6 ± 4.5 μM) and Cu(U11)2Cl2 (IC50 = 33.4 ± 3.8 μM) demonstrate enhanced activity against the drug resistant NCI-H1975 cells with moderate selectivity toward normal WI-26 VA4 cells. The antiproliferative mechanism of cell death underlying the growth inhibitory effect of the synthesized complexes was studied via additional experiments, including the cell cycle analysis and the apoptosis induction test. Reassuringly, certain 2-pyridyl urea-based Cu(II) complexes exerted cell line-specific antiproliferative effect which renders them valuable starting points for further unveiling the anticancer potential of this class of coordination compounds.

Abstract
Copper catalysis finds applications in various synthetic fields by utilizing the ability of copper to sustain mono- and bielectronic elementary steps. Further to the development of well-defined copper complexes with classical ligands such as phosphines and N-heterocyclic carbenes, a new and fast-expanding area of research is exploring the possibility of a complementing metal-centered reactivity with electronic participation by the coordination sphere. To achieve this electronic flexibility, redox-active ligands can be used to engage in a fruitful “electronic dialogue” with the metal center, and provide additional venues for electron transfer. This review aims to present the latest results in the area of copper-based cooperative catalysis with redox-active ligands.
