Abstract
This work describes an unexpected generation of a new 3D metal-organic framework (MOF), [Cu4(μ-Cl)6(μ4-O)Cu(OH)2(μ-PTA═O)4]n·2nCl-EtOH·2.5nH2O, from copper(II) chloride and 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane 7-oxide (PTA═O). The obtained product is composed of diamandoid tetracopper(II) [Cu4(μ-Cl)6(μ4-O)] cages and monocopper(II) [Cu(OH)2] units that are assembled, via the diamandoid μ-PTA═O linkers, into an intricate 3D net with an nbo topology. Magnetic susceptibility measurements on this MOF in the temperature range of 1.8-300 K reveal a ferromagnetic interaction (J = +20 cm-1) between the neighboring copper(II) ions. Single-point DFT calculations disclose a strong delocalization of the spin density over the tetranuclear unit. The magnitude of exchange coupling, predicted from the broken-symmetry DFT studies, is in good agreement with the experimental data. This copper(II) compound also acts as an active catalyst for the mild oxidation and carboxylation of alkanes. The present study provides a unique example of an MOF that is assembled from two different types of adamantoid Cu4 and PTA═O cages, thus contributing to widening a diversity of functional metal-organic frameworks.

Abstract
Two tetranuclear compounds with a cubane-like structure were synthesized from a one-pot reaction between NiII and 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione (Hdpm) for 1 or 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-phenyl-1,3-butanedione (Hbta) for 2 in the presence of sodium methoxide. The crystal structures of both compounds have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and their magnetic properties have been studied by SQUID magnetometry as well as by high-field electron paramagnetic resonance (HFEPR) spectroscopy. For 1, the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility can be fitted by taking into account Ni···Ni ferromagnetic interactions, which leads to an S = 4 ground-state spin. For 2, both antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions are present. However, the latter are dominant, which also leads to an S = 4 ground-state spin, in good agreement with the HFEPR study.

Abstract
A challenge in the field of high nuclearity Fe(iii)/oxo cluster chemistry remains the development of new synthetic methods to such molecules. In this work, the employment of pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde (py-2-al) in high-nuclearity transition-metal cluster chemistry has provided access to an unprecedented decanuclear iron(iii) complex, [Fe10(NO3)7(O)6(OH0.5)2((S)-py-hemi)4((R)-py-hemi)4]·4H2O (1) ((R-/S)-py-hemi = (R-/S)-pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde hemiacetalate). The synthesis, beautiful structure and the physical characterization (thermal gravimetric analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, magnetic susceptibility) of complex 1 are described in this contribution. Complex 1 provides a new route to obtain high nuclearity magnetic clusters with beautiful structures. The employment of pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde in high-nuclearity cluster chemistry has provided access to a decanuclear iron(iii)/oxo cage in football-like structure and unusual (R-/S)-hemiacetalate ligands in butterfly-like format.![]()
