Visible-light-induced acylation/cyclization of active alkenes: facile access to acylated isoquinolinones

Nitrogen heterocycles, especially polycyclic compounds, are significant skeletons in valuable molecules. Herein, we developed an efficient and practical visible-light-induced acylation/cyclization of active alkenes with acyl oxime derivatives for constructing acylated indolo/benzimidazo-[2,1,a]isoquinolin-6(5H) ones. This reaction was compatible with various functional groups and a series of fused indole/imidazole skeletons were prepared in up to 95% yield at room temperature.

Natural Feedstock in Catalysis: A Sustainable Route Towards Organic Transformations

Catalysts are the jewel in the crown of the chemical industry, accelerating reaction kinetics and augmenting the efficiency of desired reaction paths. Natural feedstock is a renewable resource capable of providing valuable functional products; in addition, it confers an opportunity to create catalysts. As an alternative to stoichiometric reagents, and as a part of a sustainable approach, the implications of using natural feedstocks as a source of new catalysts has attracted considerable interest. Natural feedstock-derived catalysts can promote chemical transformations more efficiently. Recent reports have highlighted the significant role of these biogenic, cost-effective, innocuous, biodegradable materials as catalysts in many biologically and pharmacologically important protocols. This review outlines the decisive organic transformations for which feedstock-derived catalysts have been employed effectively and successfully, along with their economic and environmental benefits over traditional catalytic systems.

α-Aminoazoles/azines: key reaction partners for multicomponent reactions

Aromatic α-aminoazaheterocycles are the focus of significant investigations and exploration by researchers owing to their key role in diverse biological and physiological processes. The existence of their derivatives in numerous drugs and alkaloids is due to their heterocyclic nitrogenous nature. Therefore, the synthesis of a structurally diverse range of their derivatives through simple and convenient methods represents a vital field of synthetic organic chemistry. Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) provide a platform to introduce desirable structure diversity and complexity into a molecule in a single operation with a significant reduction in the use of harmful organic waste, and hence have attracted particular attention as an excellent tool to access these derivatives. This review covers the advances made from 2010 to the beginning of 2020 in terms of the utilization of α-aminoazaheterocycles as synthetic precursors in MCRs.

Lemon Peel Powder: A Natural Catalyst for Multicomponent Synthesis of Coumarin Derivatives

Background:

Lemon peel powder was used as a natural catalyst for the synthesis of biscoumarins and 3,4-dihydropyrano[c]chromene derivatives. The catalyst is natural, biodegradable, environmentally benign and thus contributes a valuable addition to the existing sustainable methods for the synthesis of coumarin derivatives.

Objective:

Development of Green synthesis and use of Natural catalyst.

Methods:

Lemon peel powder was used as a natural, biodegradable, environmentally benign heterogenous catalyst for the synthesis of coumarin derivatives.

Results:

Natural lemon peel powder was successfully used as a heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of coumarin based heterocyclic compounds.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, an environmentally benign, green and one-pot multicomponent protocol has been developed for the synthesis of biscoumarins and 3,4-dihydropyrano[c]chromene derivatives using lemon peel powder as a natural and biodegradable catalyst. Lemon peel being natural, the present approach is sustainable and will highlight the emerging applications of natural resources for synthetic organic transformations. This protocol offers several advantages such as high yields, clean reaction conditions, and no pollution threat to the environment making it a useful and attractive process for the synthesis of coumarin derivatives.

I2/DMSO mediated multicomponent reaction for the synthesis of 2-arylbenzo[d]imidazo[2,1-b] thiazole derivatives

Synthesis of a series of 2-arylbenzo[d]imidazo[2,1-b] thiazoles tethered with barbituric acid moiety has been reported from the three component reaction of 2-aminobenzothiazoles, barbituric acids and terminal aryl acetylenes or aryl methyl ketones in the presence of I2 in DMSO medium. Both conventional and microwave heating conditions can be used for this multicomponent reaction. The salient features of this methodology are: (i) formation of one C-C and two C-N bonds in one-pot under metal-free oxidation followed by cyclization, (ii) selective formation of the fused imidazole ring, (iii) wide substrate scope, (iv) easy purification of the products, (v) products having more than one pharmaceutically important motifs and (vi) gram scale synthesis possible.
