Nacre-like laminate nitrogen-doped porous carbon/carbon nanotubes/graphene composite for excellent comprehensive performance supercapacitors

Mg-HA-C/C Composites Promote Osteogenic Differentiation and Repair Bone Defects Through Inhibiting miR-16

The hydroxyapatite (HA) coating on carbon/carbon (C/C) is reasonable and feasible to obtain bone graft materials with appropriate mechanical and biological properties. However, improvement of the physical and chemical properties of HA-C/C composites to promote bone regeneration and healing remains a challenge. In our present study, the HA coatings on C/C with magnesium (Mg) (Mg-HA-C/C) composites were synthesized that Ca (NO3)2, Mg (NO3)2, and NH4H2PO4 were mixed and coatings were made by electromagnetic induction deposition’s heating. As determined with in vitro experiments, Mg-HA-C/C composites containing 10 and 20% Mg decreased miR-16 levels, increased cell viability, elevated the levels of osteogenesis-related genes, and promoted osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) seeded on their surfaces. In a rat model of skull defects, compared to the control group, at 4 and 12 weeks after the operation, the bone volume fraction (BV/TV) of Mg-HA-C/C composite group was increased by 8.439 ± 2.681% and 23.837 ± 7.845%, as well as the trabecular thickness (Tb.Th) was 56.247 ± 24.238 μm and 114.911 ± 34.015 μm more. These composites also increased the levels of ALP and RUNX2 in skull. The Mg-HA-C/C composite-enhanced bone regeneration and healing were blocked by in situ injection of an miR-16 mimic lentivirus vector. Thus, Mg-HA-C/C composites promote osteogenic differentiation and repair bone defects through inhibiting miR-16.

Nacre-inspired composite films with high mechanical strength constructed from MXenes and wood-inspired hydrothermal cellulose-based nanofibers for high performance flexible supercapacitors

Two dimensional MXenes with fascinating characteristics of high electrical conductivity, high density and electroactivity show promising applications in various fields. However, the direct applications of MXenes have been limited due to their inferior mechanical properties and easy restacking. Herein, a kind of nacre-like composite film constructed with Ti3C2Tx, cellulose nanofiber (HCNF) and sodium lignosulfonate (Lig) obtained through the hydrothermal process, named Ti3C2Tx/HCNF@Lig, has been successfully synthesized. The hydrothermal cellulose nanofiber (HCNF) film shows an enhanced mechanical strength (114 MPa) compared to that of the CNF film (95 MPa). Wood-inspired HCNF@Lig composite films present an enhanced mechanical tensile strength of up to 133 MPa. Nacre-like deformable Ti3C2Tx/HCNF@Lig(3@1) composite films exhibit high conductivity (up to 1.75 × 105 S m-1) and mechanical properties (up to 258 MPa). The electrodes of Ti3C2Tx/HCNF@Lig(3@1)97/3 composite film assembled flexible solid-state supercapacitors possess an excellent volumetric specific capacitance of 748.96 F cm-3. The corresponding deformable supercapacitors show an excellent energy density of 16.2 W h L-1 and outstanding electrochemical cycling stability. The as-prepared nacre-like Ti3C2Tx/HCNF@Lig composite films with high mechanical properties and electrochemical performance are expected to be practically applied in flexible/wearable energy storage devices.

Investigation on the Preparation and Properties of CMC/magadiite Nacre-Like Nanocomposite Films

The layered hydrated sodium salt-magadiite (MAG), which has special interpenetrating petals structure, was used as a functional filler to slowly self-assemble with sodium carboxy-methylcellulose (CMC), in order to prepare nacre-like nanocomposite film by solvent evaporation method. The structure of prepared nacre-like nanocomposite film was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis; whereas, it was indicated that CMC macromolecules were inserted between the layers of MAG to increase the layer spacing of MAG by forming an interpenetrating petals structure; in the meantime, the addition of MAG improved the thermal stability of CMC. The tensile strength of CMC/MAG was significantly improved compared with pure CMC. The tensile strength of CMC/MAG reached the maximum value at 1.71 MPa when the MAG content was 20%, to maintaining high transparency. Due to the high content of inorganic filler, the flame retarding performance and the thermal stability were also brilliant; hence, the great biocompatibility and excellent mechanical properties of the bionic nanocomposite films with the unique interpenetrating petals structure provided a great probability for these original composites to be widely applied in material research, such as tissue engineering in biomedical research.

Highly porous structured polyaniline nanocomposites for scalable and flexible high-performance supercapacitors

Recently, flexible energy devices have been used to power up portable electronics such as E-skins, smart clothes, and bendable displays. However, the usage of rigid and inactive components in electrode materials limits the application in flexible energy devices. Here, we report a novel method to fabricate porous polyaniline composites (Pt_CPPy/PANI:CSA) using Pt decorated carboxyl polypyrrole nanoparticles (Pt_CPPyNPs) as a nucleating agent for electrodes of supercapacitors. The specific capacitance and electrical conductivity of the Pt_CPPy/PANI:CSA film are 325.0 F g-1 and 814 S cm-1, respectively, which are much higher than those of the pristine PANI:CSA film. Furthermore, the porous PANI:CSA composites exhibit excellent rate capability and cycling stability as the pores in the PANI structure enhance the active surface area between PANI and the ions of the electrolytes. This unique fabrication technique is an effective approach for preparing large scale highly porous polyaniline nanomaterials for diverse electrochemical applications.
