Abstract
We have successfully modified a series of pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines via direct nitration under mild reaction conditions. Easily accessible nitrates including CAN, Cu(NO3)2·H2O, and Fe(NO3)3·9H2O all can serve as effective nitrating reagents for functionalizing pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines. Various nitro-bearing pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines have been efficiently prepared in acceptable to good yields.

Abstract
A direct nitration of vinylcyclopropanes is disclosed with Cu(NO3)2 and KI in a regio- and stereoselective manner to afford nitroalkenes efficiently, where the cyclopropane skeleton was retained. The given method could be extended to other vinylcycles as well as biomolecule derivatives with wide substrate scope, good functionality tolerance, and efficient synthesis modularity. Further transformations illustrated the obtained products as versatile building blocks in organic synthesis. The proposed ionic pathway could account for the untouched small ring and the effect of KI during the reaction.

Abstract
Mesocrystals are superstructures of crystallographically aligned nanoparticles and are a rapidly emerging class of crystalline materials displaying sophisticated morphologies and properties, beyond those originating from size and shape of nanoparticles alone. This study reports the first synthesis of Cu3N mesocrystals employing structure-directing agents with a subtle tuning of the reaction parameters. Detailed structural characterizations carried out with a combination of transmission electron microscopy techniques (HRTEM, HAADF-STEM-EXDS) reveal that Cu3N mesocrystals form by non-classical crystallization, and variations in their sizes and morphologies are traced back to distinct attachment scenarios of corresponding mesocrystal subunits. In the presence of oleylamine, the mesocrystal subunits in the early reaction stages prealign in a crystallographic fashion and afterwards grow into the final mesocrystals, while in the presence of hexadecylamine the subunits come into contact through misaligned attachment, and subsequently, to some degree, realign in crystallographic register. Upon prolonged heating both types of mesocrystals undergo chemical conversion processes resulting in structural and morphological changes. A two-step mechanism of chemical conversion is proposed, involving Cu3N decomposition and anion exchange driven by the nanoscale Kirkendall effect, resulting first in multicomponent/heterostructured Cu3N-Cu2O mesocrystals, which subsequently convert into Cu2O nanocages. It is anticipated that combining nanostructured Cu3N and Cu2O in a mesocrystalline and hollow morphology will provide a platform to expand their application potential.

Abstract
The investigation of copper nitrate cluster anions Cu(ii)n(NO3)2n+1-, n ≤ 4, in the gas phase using ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared (UV/vis/NIR) spectroscopy provides detailed insight into the electronic structure of the copper salt and its intriguing photochemistry. In the experimentally studied region up to 5.5 eV, the spectra of copper(ii) nitrate exhibit a 3d-3d band in the vis/NIR and well-separated bands in the UV. The latter bands originate from Ligand-to-Metal Charge Transfer (LMCT) as well as n-π* transitions in the nitrate ligands. The clusters predominantly decompose by loss of neutral copper nitrate in the electronic ground state after internal conversion or via the photochemical loss of a neutral NO3 ligand after a LMCT. These two decomposition channels are in direct competition on the ground state potential energy surface for the smallest copper nitrate cluster, Cu(ii)(NO3)3-. Here, copper nitrate evaporation is thermochemically less favorable. Population of π* orbitals in the nitrate ligands may lead to N-O bond photolysis. This is observed in the UV region with a small quantum efficiency, with photochemical loss of either nitrogen dioxide or an oxygen atom.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed [2 + 2 + 1] heteroannulation of alkenes with enynyl benziodoxolones and AgNO2 involving oxidative cleavage of the C≡C bond promoted by cooperative Zn(OTf)2, KOAc, and 4 Å MS for producing 3-aryl Δ2-isoxazolines is reported. Mechanistic studies indicate that AgNO2 serves as the N/O two-atom unit source, enabling the formation of three bonds through NO2 addition across the C≡C bond, NO-transfer, C≡C bond cleavage, and annulation cascades.

Abstract
An unprecedented copper-mediated anion transformation is reported, along with selective C═C double bond cleavage and dipolar cycloaddition reaction from simple alkenes and inexpensive copper nitrate. Various transformations demonstrate the generality of this method. Further mechanistic investigation indicates a novel ionic pathway for alkene cleavage and highlights the coeffect of iodide and boric acid as additives on the inhibition of well-documented competitive nitration byproducts.

Abstract
4-Nitropyrazolin-5-ones have been synthesized by the nitration of pyrazolin-5-ones at room temperature by employing the Fe(NO3 )3 /NaNO2 system. The method demonstrated selectivity towards the 4-position of pyrazolin-5-ones even in the presence of NPh and allyl substituents, which are sensitive to nitration. It was shown that other systems containing FeIII and nitrites, namely Fe(NO3 )3 /tBuONO, Fe(ClO4 )3 /NaNO2 , and Fe(ClO4 )3 /tBuONO, were also effective. Presumably, FeIII oxidizes the nitrite (NaNO2 or tBuONO) to form the NO2 free radical, which serves as the nitrating agent for pyrazolin-5-ones. The synthesized 4-nitropyrazolin-5-ones were discovered to be a new class of fungicides. Their in vitro activities against phytopathogenic fungi were found comparable or even superior to those of commercial fungicides (fluconazole, clotrimazole, triadimefon, and kresoxim-methyl). These results represent a promising starting point for the development of a new type of plant protection agents that can be easily synthesized from widely available reagents.

Abstract
The novel coordination compounds [Cu2(H tBuDea)2(OAc)2] (1) and [Cu2(H nBuDea)2Cl2]· nH2O (2) have been prepared through the reaction of the respective copper(II) salts with N- tert-butyldiethanolamine (H2 tBuDea, for 1) or N-butyldiethanolamine (H2 nBuDea, for 2) in methanol solution. Crystallographic analysis reveals that, in spite of the common binuclear {Cu2(μ-O)2} core, the supramolecular structures of the complexes are drastically different. In 1 binuclear molecules are linked together by H-bonds into 1D chains, while in 2 the neighboring pairs of binuclear molecules are H-bonded, forming tetranuclear aggregates. Variable-temperature (1.8-300 K) magnetic susceptibility measurements of 1 and 2 show a dominant antiferromagnetic behavior. Both complexes are also studied by HF-EPR spectroscopy. While the interaction between Cu(II) centers in 1 can be described by a single coupling constant J = 130.1(3) cm-1 (using H = JS1 S2), the crystallographically different {Cu2(μ-O)2} pairs in 2 are expected exchange from ferro- to antiferromagnetic behavior (with J ranging from -32 to 110 cm-1, according to DFT calculations). Complexes 1 and 2 act as catalysts in the amidation of cyclohexane with benzamide, employing tBuOO tBu as oxidant. The maximum achieved conversion of benzamide (20%, after 24 h reaction time) was observed in the 1/ tBuOO tBu system. In the cases of tBuOO(O)CPh or tBuOOH oxidants, no significant amidation product was observed, while for tBuOO(O)CPh, the oxidative dehydrogenation of cyclohexane occurred, giving cyclohexene, to afford the allylic ester (cyclohex-2-en-1-yl benzoate) as the main reaction product.
